Husband doesn’t like me reading

Hey all,

So quick one. I want to know if I’m being a total d1ck here. I love to read in bed, my husband sits in bed on his phone and I like to read. However, he gets really sulky and makes a big deal out of it if I read a book in bed. He’s said it’s a tactic I use to ignore him and divide us (!). He’s fine for me to be on my phone and scroll through nothingness, but to pick up a book and read I usually end up apologising for. Anyone else or just me?

Leave him. But also get a kindle app on your phone or see if your library does borrow box and then you can read on your phone”

No. Reading on a phone screen is awful. Nothing beats an actual book

Scruffington · 22/09/2023 10:50

you're sharing a bed with a whiney philistine

and that is not sexy.

Freezingcoldinseptember · 22/09/2023 10:51

My ex was the same. Big dramatic announcements to the dc to not bother talking to me because I was READING A BOOK... Utter cunt at best.
He has been dead a year and tbh the best karma ever was he died alone....

why would she want to read a book on her phone?

Gettingbysomehow · 22/09/2023 10:52

Get kindle on your phone?
I don't let anyone tell me what to do.

BCBird · 22/09/2023 10:55

I agree re liking being single. I bern struggling whth it since death of partner, but here is a beacon of light

viques · 22/09/2023 11:01

I would take up another bedtime hobby. Knitting perhaps, with giant knitting needles( click click click, sorry dear, did I poke you) or embroidery ( be careful dear, I just dropped my needle) or blogging on your iPad, (nearly finished dear, just letting my followers know what a dickhead you are). In a couple of weeks he will be begging you to go back to silent reading.

Can you get separate bedrooms sorted out instead?

Perhaps that separate bedroom could also be in a separate house.

Same

Or separate houses?

Actually…separate lives?

Fully behind this

I was going to add something more but I think this fully encapsulates my feelings!

Prelapsarianhag · 22/09/2023 11:26

He's an ignorant cunt, and controlling - dump, dump, dump.

Mmhmmn · 22/09/2023 11:27

What do people think is behind this totally unreasonable behaviour around someone reading?

I wonder if it's almost similar to xenophobia or racism - something like hatred based on fear of ... what though? Feeling stupid because someone is READING A BOOK?

Goldbar · 22/09/2023 11:39

Maybe tell him you don't like him breathing? Could he either stop doing it altogether or, if he insists on persisting, find somewhere else to do it?

Mmhmmn · 22/09/2023 11:41

You should buy him a book: "How to stop being a controlling bellend"

jannier · 22/09/2023 11:45

Reading a book or reading a phone no different unless your keeping him awake he's on some controlling shitty pathway.

SpringleDingle · 22/09/2023 11:48

WOW - he is a total controlling arse! LTB and enjoy your kindle!

MrsMarzetti · 22/09/2023 11:51

Why the hell are you apologising ? Tell the man child to grow up.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/09/2023 12:34

I have a similar thing with phones- my H wakes every morning and scrolls his phone sat up for at least 30 minutes and yet if I ever do it (rare) and he's not yet awake as such he makes a massive fuss . Some Men seem very fond of criticising behaviour in others that is fine if it's them doing it.

Ladyj84 · 22/09/2023 12:36

Seriously...I adore reading hubby likes to chill watching weird videos on his phone. That's exactly what we do every night then one of us will say after a while sleep time and we cuddle up and off to sleep we go. I couldn't be doing with a control man

JamSandle · 22/09/2023 12:47

He sounds unhinged.
