Shaving

forwhatitsworth22 · 25/01/2023 19:55

My hubby has asked if I would consider shaving, all off, smooth. I keep myself trimmed and tidy. I have a question which may be silly but how do I shave and see what I'm doing? Do I use a normal razor and shaving gel? I know these sound like silly questions but I don't wanna give myself a nasty cut etc.

If anything use Veet/Nair. I use that because I’m quite clumsy and would always cut myself, it was horrible. This way is so much easier as you just rub the cream over the area you want, leave it on for about 10mins, rinse it off in the shower and done.

They advertise and say not to use it for your pubic area but practically everyone I know does😂 waxing sounds amazing though. I’m so jealous of those that get a wax. I don’t think I’m confident or ready enough for that lol

I second this! Never had an issue with Veet and similar. You can get all the awkward bits.

What is with these men who want grown women to look like little girls?

I like DH without a beard. Does that make me attracted to little boys? I'm so confused.

Isheabastard · 26/01/2023 12:38

Razor - possible nicks and re growth can be super itchy.
Hair removal cream - can burn sensitive areas
Wax - painful as fuck.

Nowadays due to porn all the women are hairless. I’d consider that if you try it and it’s not for you (time consuming, painful etc), will it have set a precedent and your DH will ask you to do this permanently and make you feel bed if you don’t.

If you’ve never thought of doing this before and it’s only in response to your husband, then perhaps suggest he also goes smooth as well. Because it’s the norm in Porn Land he probably thinks it’s no worse than shaving his beard. The skin is so much more sensitive down there it’s not the same.

BunchHarman · 26/01/2023 12:42

If you want to do it, only do it for you. Not your husband.

And if you want to do it, WAX. FFS wax. Never, ever, ever shave.

Firstly, cuts.
Secondly, in about 12 hours it will be stubbly as fuck. Ugh.
Thirdly, it will be itchy and stabby as fuck as it grows back. And you can’t shave daily because RASH.

Men are thick, they hear ‘shaven haven’ (among other revolting terms used for women) and see it on porn, and they request it literally.

Namechanger355 · 26/01/2023 12:45

Please don’t shave - you will feel so so so uncomfortable as it regrows

take a paracetamol tablet and then get a wax - any “pain” isn’t that bad and is over in a second and you won’t look back. It will be finer and easier to deal with and you won’t struggle with re growth

StarlightLady · 26/01/2023 13:23

I have no idea what I look like (in a mirror) with pubic hair. I have swapped between shaving, Veet Inspirations and having a Hollywood wax since my late teens. Waxing leaves a smoother finish but you have to put up with the regrowth which is when I go for other methods.

I've never had any probs with Veet (I "coax" the hair with a razor at the same time time) but do the spot test first. Shaving is just a case of running a razor over myself (use hair conditioner not shower gel or shaving cream) when in the shower. I would recommend the Venus Raspberry. If you are unsure at first you can use a makeup mirror.

Any itching is likely to stop fairly quickly as the body gets uses to it. Whatever your choice, personally, I find it far more comfortable than be hairy in the warmer weather.

Agree, and bit hmm at all this enthusiastic advice on how to remove your pubic hair. I think him asking is really ick and I'd tell him to f off!

I shave and have been doing for over 30 years. I CBA with regrowing for waxing, plus have incredibly sensitive skin which doesn't like waxing. Shaving is easy, quick, haven't ever cut myself and do it every day so no regrowth.

perfectcolourfound · 26/01/2023 15:00

I know people who have said they do it for themselves - but only do it when in a (often new) relationship - as at least one pp has said that. So I'm not sure that's always the truth.

To those who have equated shaving down there to shaving underarms or a man shaving his beard it isn't comparable. In this case, the Op's partner has asked - presumably for sexual reasons. So for sexual reasons he wants her to look prepubescent.

I used wax or sometimes shave myself. I stopped because it was a faff and the itching was horrible when it was growing back. Just keep it neat now and much prefer how it looks. When I met DH long ago his view was that shaving down t here is linked to men's expectations from porn. I tend to agree.

LoekMa · 26/01/2023 15:42

StalkedByASpider · 26/01/2023 10:43

Women will pretty much always insist that they're only doing it for themselves - a common reason is that they feel "cleaner" when they're shaven/bald.

What I find really interesting is that the number of women who are "doing it for themselves" has rapidly risen in line with the prevalence of shaven/bald women in porn. And male preferences for no pubic hair. 25, 30 years ago women weren't removing all of their hair - it's very much a trend, and it's a trend that funnily enough matches the male gaze, and what society now tells us is "sexy".

I think social conditioning plays a very significant part in it, even if lots of women don't realise it. For example, it's not very hygienic to get rid of all the pubic hair - being bald increases the risk of infections and harmful bacteria etc. So the argument about being "clean" doesn't actually stack up - it's something that's often suggested and collectively we've unconsciously accepted that we can't be clean if we have hair. Same goes for armpit hair.

Social conditioning is extremely powerful and it's something we absorb unconsciously. It's a way of getting us to think that it's our own idea but it's not.

Just look at the pain and difficulties that women are describing on this thread in order to remove all of their pubic hair. It's utterly bonkers that women put themselves through this.

No pubic hair will continue to be popular until it falls out of fashion and then the next generation of women will be doing something else. It's not personal choice any more than leg hair or armpit hair is personal choice - if we all lived in a society where every woman had visible leg hair, no one would be trying to find ways to remove it because "personal taste". It's social conditioning even if people don't want to admit it/can't see it.

Having said all of that, it's up to others what they do with their pubic hair. It bothers me in the sense that I don't think it's a healthy message to pass onto our daughters - I wish our girls were growing up with the message that there's nothing wrong with visible armpit hair or leg hair. Or pubic hair. But all of that is a very long way off, and on a personal level, I don't care what another woman chooses to do. Makes zero difference to me. I just find it all very interesting from a sociological perspective.

25, 30 years ago women weren't removing all of their hair

yes. And nowadays there are many women in the age range of 25-30 who grew up with a new normal.

Its fair enough if somebody chooses to let their hair grow out, the insinuation that liking that makes a person somehow "into pre-pubescent bodies" is so asinine, it would be a different ball game if your DH asked you to get a Labiaplasty because he finds your lady bits unappealing.

But shaving? Nah, come on. Bald is the way to go IMO

NorthernLights5 · 26/01/2023 15:42

Folkishgal · 26/01/2023 06:09

Idk, something gives me the heebs about a fully grown man wanting his partner to look like an infant.

If I shaved for myself it's normally for a bikini line/just to tidy it up so I don't become an actual yeti.

But nah red flags sorry. Also pubic hair is important for your health, it's not there just to be a nuisance.

If you look at a woman without pubic hair and equate that with looking like an infant then it is you who gets the red flag! If you honestly think a woman looks like a child due to having no pubic hair then there's something wrong with you!

Also, women may lose their hair through illness or treatment such as chemotherapy. If it were you would you think your partner was a paedo or whatever for being intimate with you?

Plenty of women lose their pubic hair as they get older too (I work in care so I know this). I can assure you none of these women look like infants.

Get help with your own issues and insecurities if you can't cope with people choosing to do things differently from you.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/01/2023 15:44

I use veet on the exterior bits (absolutely no where near anything sensitive otherwise it burns like a bitch!! 😂) then use a razor.

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/01/2023 15:48

Oh ffs, not the prepubescent argument again!! I'm not being funny but I'm 39, with big tits, hips and arse. There is fuck all prepubescent about me and removing a bit of hair (that I personally DO NOT LIKE) is not going to make me look like a 7 year old child!
There is nothing wrong with having a full bush. There is nothing wrong with being bald. Why don't we women stop being bitches to each other about a bit of bloody fluff on our bits?!?

I have no problem with women choosing how much or how little hair they want. I'm just a bit creeped out by a man who says he wants a woman to have no pubes, when pubic hair is one of the markers of puberty. I'd also be creeped out by a man saying he wanted me to bind my breasts so I looked as flat chested as possible.

FartSock5000 · 26/01/2023 16:15

@forwhatitsworth22 Im too fat for a razor and too scared of waxing o I use Nair/Veet. They have one for sensitve skin and bikini areas. I use either on the whole foof and leave it on for 5-6 mins, text readiness then remove with an exfoliating glove. Never for full 10mins as I get chemical burns in the creases where leg meets vulva.

Its pain free, leaves a smooth finish and the regrowth is ok. I use an exfloliating mit (the pal to the one I used to rub the cream off lol) in the days after to prevent ingrown hairs.

StarlightLady · 26/01/2023 16:26

With regard to the looks like little girl argument of some on this thread. The only hair on my body is on my head. My choice. I'm in my 40s and rock a 36F bra. Neither my body nor my vulva looks like that of a child. I take it those saying it looks like a little girl do not shave their legs or underarms? I also assume they have male partners with full facial hair, otherwise, on this basis, they would look like boys wouldn't they?

Got2besoon · 26/01/2023 16:27

Shaving all pubes off isn't the same as shaving armpits/legs though, is it?

I shave my pits and legs because otherwise my pits get too sweaty and because I don't like how my leg hair looks while wearing shorts or a dress.

I trim my bikini line for the same reason.

Shaving all pubes is obviously no issue if it's a personal preference, but doing it solely for a partner is just a little strange to me. This isn't aimed at the OP, who has explained her own reasoning.

StarlightLady · 26/01/2023 16:29

So, why is there a difference between removing pubic hair and shaving armpits/legs? It's all body hair. And removing pubic hair can make you less sweaty in the crotch area.

No my partner doesn't watch to much porn, he asked if I would consider it, I'm happy to try it!!! I didn't ask for opinions on if I should or not. I asked for how to do it.

Don't feed the ones that are spoilimg for any argument. Personally I have a Brazilian style and not all off..... But I feel cleaner. I do it for me not DH, hell try have his way whether it's a runway or a jungle.

On the flip side, I prefer him to be "neat" as in trimmed. Nothing worse than hair getting caught in teeth etc etc.

If you've nothing constructive to say scroll on by.

Its got nothing to do with porn or pedophile tenancies!! I feel cleaner, have done since my teens before I discovered porn.

forwhatitsworth22 · 26/01/2023 18:08

So update, I've been for "supplies" I'm gonna go in with a shave, exfoliating and cream. If I like it I'll look into the other options mentioned, if I don't it'll grow and I'll just maintain what I do now.
Thank you for the advice. Definitely given me time to learn options, I'd have gone for it and probably given myself unnecessary cuts lol.
