Partner described as a 'race traitor'

Amongst other things... I have been with my boyfriend for 3 and a half years. We live in a predominately white area I am white he is black. A couple of weeks ago he was called a race traitor when we were on a date and got that shouted at him. We were also cat called about a month ago with someone shouting 'once you go black you never go back'.

Anyone else had experiences of this? I find it crazy how we are in 2020 and these things are still happening.

As much as racism is directed at whites, there is a hidden prejudice that nobody cares speak about and that is from within ethnic minority communities.

It goes both ways and white communities also have the same prejudices within their own communities.

I can’t say I’ve been anywhere in the word where ‘they’ haven’t been vilified, joked about or insulted. Human nature, sadly.

The worst I’ve heard is someone (from ME) referring to another race ‘we don’t even consider them as human’.

@QuestionMarkNow

As a mixed Arab/white female, I just don't get this nonsense which sorts to almost legitimise any bigotry and prejudice towards white people. Disgusting! No progress will ever be made until there is EQUALITY for all and that is EVERYONE treated the same in ALL ISSUES!!!

And it's waving the flag of white privilege that causes incidents like the one described by OP. Because white people are seen as automatically having a better start in life, getting to sit at the top of the table (whether it's true for the individual or not) it breeds resentment in individuals within ethnic minorities.

And ref Laurece Fox's comment that being white is, of course an immutable characteristic, so accusing a white person of 'white privilege' is intrinsically racist.

@phoenixrosehere

White privileged people sure might be the rich 1% but for the whole race? It's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! It's used by people who have bigotry towards white people to just justify their hate!! If it did exist, you certainly wouldn't have the level of white poverty that you have which far out numbers all ethnic minority poverty combined both in the UK and the USA! Anyone who uses it is using it to justify their hatred of white people simple as that, that includes anyone on here.

VikVal81 · 10/04/2020 13:18

@phoenixrosehere

Unearned rights and privileges????!!

So what are they then?

I see a lot of positive discrimination policies, is that white privilege? I'm sorry what are the unearned rights? This is total nonsense!

VikVal81 · 10/04/2020 13:22

I'm not going to debate on this thread anymore, it's clear that there are women posting who have an inherent unjustifiable hatred towards white race as a collective, as a mixed race person who has seen all sides of the picture I find this utterly ridiculous. If anyone else was posting generalisations of a race they would be banned, but I guess it's what's socially acceptable may be even this is another aspect of white privelge (lol). As I have stated, until there is equality for all and everyone stands up for prejudice against regardless then zero will get better I'm afraid.

@Vikval

That is how you have taken it, however that is your mentality going by everything you have posted. You don’t agree nor are trying to understand so you are stomping off and accusing people of being anti-white when no one has said the sort and have said that minorities can be racist too.

I gave you the dictionary definition of white privilege. You not agreeing with it, is your own issue, not mine. Take it up with the creators of the dictionary.

Of course there will be higher numbers of white people than minorities in a lower class but that is because there are MORE white people here.

re the MP, one of her initials is B, definitely B, buzzing like a...(in case you think it's a typo !).
i remember thinking at the time, gosh i wonder what her male pale constituents would think, to hear her say she would not lower herself to consider them partner material.
now imagine if a white MP said, i can't find anyone white enough to marry !
or is this a case of the personal is political, ie she's doing it to make a point. seems a bit of a waste to me. life is short. if you want to marry get on with it, then again, i wouldn't be putting any of my friends forward for that role, quite apart from how they fit on the colour chart.
