Was she forced to be a SAHM? Sounds more like she's hungry for more fame after getting a taste of it on some crappy reality TV show which is her prerogative but dressing it up like she was some kind of pre-programmed robot that lived years of servitude is laughable.

The Pool drives me bananas - their writers have such a loose grasp of cause and effect and often wildly overgeneralise to make their (tenuous) points.

So she left her husband because the relationship got stale, as she is of course perfectly entitled to do. Leaving is not a prerequisite for working/having some freedom though, whatever the writer thinks.

She did willingly decide to give up any chance of a career and become a WAG, but I think there is more to it than her just deciding she didn't want to be a 'stepford wife' anymore. Who just throws away a happy marriage because they want to get a job after being a SAHM? Either he has protested and wanted to keep her at home or there were other problems and Strictly was her way out of the marriage.

Hmmm, actually I quite liked that article! It's so easy to put yourself at the bottom of the pile with a husband and children, and why should she stay if that is what's expected of her? She can still be a parent away from being married and if he's not supporting her in being independent from him then she has to leave!

Although people might think living as a wag is some kind of dream, often it's claustrophobic and restrictive in so many ways, you are expected to constantly be the trailing spouse - she had a successful career before, it can't have been easy.

She is getting a lot of publicity for her new music releases and starring role in Caberet that she wouldn't have got had she still been happily married. She is not particularly talented. I was a bit upset when they split - liked their low key approach, but she is slightly milking the split now.

I read it to mean that her 'role' was difficult to change while in the marriage and that strictly helped her see what was missing.
I can see how women are often the ones that put everyone before themselves and lose who they really are. If pursuing sonething for yourself is met with resentment, the choice is to deal with that the only way you can.

Perhaps not you, but I know of two families where the wife has wanted to retrain or get a more demanding job (ie the husband would have step up for school run etc) and it's been a flat veto from the husband. Men keep women in 'their place' - the home - more than we'd like to acknowledge.
