OMG. Had this show recommended to me today.

I find it quite hard to watch, having had my ex husband cheat on me, and I'm holding my breath a fair bit, but I'm loving how strong she Is!

Two episodes are left......

What was it Simon told his son about his mother that made him want to live with him?

What was in the present Dr Foster gave to Kate.

Where has Simon really got his new found wealth from?

What were the syringes for at the end of episode one?

Who was the black guy that was with Kate?

RainyApril · 26/09/2017 17:37

I don't see her as mad. When I discovered my xh's affair I fantasised about all of the ways I could hurt him and ow. I didn't do a thing obviously, but that is why I love Gemma. She's not confined by societal expectations like the rest of us, like me. She just bloody gets on with the venging!

And while everyone is preoccupied with how mad Gemma is, what about the things Simon has done?

In S1 he conducted an affair for years (with the teenage daughter of a friend), lied to Gemma every day, hid lucrative but dodgy business deals, hid money from her and ultimately got ow pregnant.

In S2 he has unnecessarily returned, announced his return by inviting Gemma's son and friends to his homecoming party, lied to their son to make him hate Gemma, turned a blind eye to the son's drinking and behaviour, told Gemma she should leave her home and job, and told her he plans to take their son away from her.

Had the story been told from his pov, say writing his party invitations or lying to their son, we would be saying that he had a screw loose too wouldn't we?

She's fighting back, she's just not being very effective at the moment. Hope that changes tonight!

Oh, I think Simon is horrible too. The only person I feel really sorry for is their poor son who is clearly being hideously messed up by his mad as toast parents who both just want to use him as a weapon. I sort of hope season 2 ends with him striking back at both of them.

27Feb · 26/09/2017 18:17

I do get that Gemma is kick ass. I just think she's like Carrie in the Stephen King novel. As a victim of bullying I loved that book as a kid, but I think Gemma is about as realistic as mad telekinesis, if you see what I mean.

RainyApril · 26/09/2017 18:22

But he wasn't messed up until his dad came back. The story showed Gemma and her son happy and close, with him visiting his dad regularly in London. He didn't drink, hate either parent, attack women or get into trouble at school until his dad told him he was coming back to Parminster with his new wife and child in tow, through the medium of a party invitation. At said party he got pissed, attacked his friend, decided he hated his mum and set off on a downward spiral. Admittedly, Gemma's response to Simon's return has not helped him to deal with it.

I am very over invested!

RainyApril · 26/09/2017 18:24

I love Carrie too. Another study in what can happen when you push a good person to breaking point.

Offred · 26/09/2017 18:29

I agree 27.

It's gonna be really annoying if all Simon turns out to have said to Tom is 'ya ma pretended to kill you'....

Yes, what is in the present to Kate?

I feel very sorry for poor Tom too, I thought the last episode Anna had really got through to Gemma about needing to think about Tom and stop being so crazy and then Simon fucked it up by being a game playing arse re school.

I also was willing to forgive kate her naive idiocy in getting together with Simon until the last episode when she refused to have Tom in the house with Amelie....

It's not that I don't think Simon is messed up - more that I see him as a pretty common or garden weak pathetic insecure and abusive man. If Gemma was not quite so disordered then I think I'd probably be thinking he was completely nuts, it's probably just because she is SO unstable IMO and the things she does are so shocking that he's flying under the radar...

I have no idea what is going to happen now. She surely can't have left parminster half way through the series?!

27Feb · 26/09/2017 19:42

No! She can't. Unless it's as some kind of ruse to give her even greater stalking capacity. I could totally believe that.

2rebecca · 26/09/2017 20:54

Agree with Offred that if the genders were reversed there would be very little sympathy for a male Gemma.
A mum who had an affair moves back to her home town to be near friends family and son. What's not to like about that?
Her ex then attends her house party uninvited and starts roaming round the house and going through the stuff in her bedroom and talking about how he knows his ex still really fancies him.
Her ex starts/ continues drinking heavily goes to teenage discos and observes a teenage girl friend of his son dancing and wanders in to her bedroom and offers her wine!

Her ex is supposedly a GP but keeps walking out of the surgery leaving his patients because he's upset about something she's done.

Her ex tries seducing her and filming it when she goes round to try and sort out their troubled teenage son.

It would be creepy, unhinged stalkery behaviour. Gemma gets way too much sympathy just for having XX chromosomes.

PinkChocolatex · 26/09/2017 21:11

Ohhh its nice to see that Im not the only one obsessed with Dr Foster haha...roll on tonight!

Onecutefox · 26/09/2017 22:19

And here we are again. Vendetta. Poor son.

RainyApril · 26/09/2017 22:24

Satisfying to see Simon lose everything, and his wife tear herself apart with suspicion and mistrust; the inevitable end result of marrying a known liar I suppose. I feel for Tom, awful to see him loving and hating his dad at the same time. I hope she wasn't stupid enough to hit him with the car, and that there's a happy ending next week for Tom and Gemma.

2rebecca · 26/09/2017 22:42

I like Kate and don't see her daughter losing a father as a good thing. It's not really about the ramifications of leaving your wife for another woman, it's about a couple's obsession for each other that destroys them and the people they love including their kids.

Worriedrose · 26/09/2017 22:50

Wow way to fuck your kid up
And this does happen in real life sadly

Dowser · 26/09/2017 22:53

Enjoyed tonight.
Won't say any more.

Mittens92 · 26/09/2017 23:08

Kate is no better to be honest. She knew she was having an affair with a married man! Yet she seems to think the same wouldn't happen to her? IMO she got what's coming to her... Like the other one said : once a cheat, always a cheat x

Justaboy · 26/09/2017 23:11

Stupid Simon fancy loosing the fantastically sexy Gemma!.

debbs77 · 27/09/2017 00:02

I just finished the first series tonight. Gemma is amazing so far!

And yes she went a by crazy but actually, I'm sure most people would/have in that situation. I know I did!

Will start series 2 tomorrow

Fanciedachange17

Thank you for your lovely message, I really appreciate it and I hope that life has settled for you too Flowers

Sohurt17 · 27/09/2017 01:50

Kate is a bitch. The only excuse for her is that she is young.

EddyF · 27/09/2017 06:26

Vodka, thank you so much. I have just watched on Netflix episode 1.

debbs77 · 27/09/2017 06:57

Kate IS a bitch. Knowingly standing there and stirring the pot.

27Feb · 27/09/2017 10:05

I don't think Kate is a nice person but I do feel sorry for her for being caught between Simon and Gemma who are such total lunatics. I think I've decided I like Simon the least though.

Dowser · 27/09/2017 10:13

One of the highlights of last night's episode was Kate's dad speech to Simon as the family were about to drive off.

He did it for all the dads who've had to sit by and watch their daughters get shit on from a great height by their abusive partners/ husband's.

I had a dad like Kate's . He'd died before my marriage went pear shaped...but he would have been my rock had he been alive.

Yay Kate's dad.
