Did you have a break-up song? (lighthearted)

Because I think mine just became Madonna's Borderline Blush

Having had a very difficult convo with STBXH about our non existent future, I got in the car to drive home (we are already separated). Put the radio on and the above teeny 80's pop classic blasted out. And I sang out every word along with it, with feeling.

keep pushin' my love ...

Many! All cheesy as they were suggested by the dds.

Taylor Swift's never ever getting back together song
Katy Perry's roar
Pink's you and your hand

I think you get the picture Wink

Dickhead song is brilliant. Someone posted it on my facebook and tagged my ex. Was funny, but I did have to take it down :(

Angleshades · 07/03/2015 19:15

Cry Me a River by Justin Timberlake. That song always reminds me of breaking up with my ex.

Hassled · 07/03/2015 19:16

With my first H, it was "A Little Time" by the Beautiful South. That was just us, completely - he pretty much said what the man in the song said, to quite a spooky degree.

VeryVeryDarkGrey · 07/03/2015 19:17

Not fair by lily allen!

BertieBotts · 07/03/2015 19:21

Yes. Broken Strings by James Morrison. Had it stuck in my head on a loop the whole day I was packing up our house.

Just after I broke up with XP there were two songs in the charts which used to make me cry. Cheryl Cole (who had just announced her divorce) Fight for this Love, and JLS Beat Again. Which just makes me angry now.

For another ex, where the break up was more wistful, Smoke and Ashes by Tracy Chapman.

Lovelydiscusfish · 07/03/2015 19:21

Dido's Hunter. I used to put it on any duke box I could get near, and wax lyrical about my divorce to people who obviously weren't interested!

AMillionNameChangesLater · 07/03/2015 19:25

Jar of hearts - Christina Perri

MairzyDoats · 07/03/2015 19:28

Yes by Mcalmont & Butler:

Yes I do feel better
Yes I do I feel alright
I feel well enough to tell you what you can do
with what you got to offer

MairzyDoats · 07/03/2015 19:29

In fact, so good, you've got to listen to it!

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 07/03/2015 19:38

Weak As I Am - Skunkanansie - just perfect!

BertieBotts · 07/03/2015 20:04

Also So What by Pink. And Call Me When You're Sober by Evanescence. (Don't cry for me; if you loved me you would be here with me)

The Cheryl Cole one just got me at the time. The news reports would be full of her divorce and in between they would play this song which was all about how they'd been to hell and back but it was worth it and they were going to pull it back and it was all going to be great. :( Clearly not. Just thought it was quite shitty. I'm normally a bit scathing about "celebrity affairs" but it was just a reminder that she was a real person and probably hurting a lot yet being faced with the bloody song at every turn Hmm

BertieBotts · 07/03/2015 20:05

I love that song Iwould :)

atticusfinchatemybaby · 07/03/2015 20:09

Every day I love you less and less - kaiser chiefs (?) Surely I'm not the only one who spent many evenings screaming along to that one?!

Firecrest · 07/03/2015 20:13

"This ain't a love song, this is goodbye", Scouting for Girls, "Rise", Gabrielle & "Stronger", Kelly Clarkson.

NollaigShona · 07/03/2015 20:17

Night Owl.
A brilliant Northern Soul classic. The song is about a guy whose partner keeps coming home late and he tells her to get lost. Story of my marriage.

fairgame · 07/03/2015 20:20

An ex left me for another woman. My break up song that time was Never Again by Kelly Clarkson.
The first 2 lines are:
I hope the ring you gave to her turns her finger green
I hope when your in bed with her, you think of me
Grin
i was not at all bitter honest

shadowfax07 · 07/03/2015 20:20

Here I go again on my own by Whitesnake. Grin

dinoswore · 07/03/2015 20:25

Oh I love some of these. Especially the really empowering ones. Updating my playlist as I read your posts.

Also fighting the temptation to link 'Dickhead' on FB and tag the twat.

Someone like you by Adele. I would watch the video on youtube sobbing my eyes out. The video also reminded me of a day in London where we walked along the Thames. It had been a lovely day (I know the video is in Paris but that is what it reminded me of )

velourvoyageur · 07/03/2015 20:27

sort of. the night after my last ex and I broke up, he played "She's so high" by Blur on a loop the whole evening Hmm making sure we could all hear him crying too (shared student house). He spoilt Blur for me!

bibliomania · 07/03/2015 20:27

Yes, Mairzy, that was my break-up song too!

Also Healing Hands by Elton John (never said I had cool taste).

Coming Around Again by Simon Webbe.

Thank you by Jamelia.

Hippee · 07/03/2015 20:28

At University, I had a very self-indulgent long vacation after a break-up listening to Spiralling by Erasure. Wallowed all summer and then turned him down when he decided he'd made a mistake.
