Did you have a break-up song? (lighthearted)

Because I think mine just became Madonna's Borderline Blush

Having had a very difficult convo with STBXH about our non existent future, I got in the car to drive home (we are already separated). Put the radio on and the above teeny 80's pop classic blasted out. And I sang out every word along with it, with feeling.

keep pushin' my love ...

I hate you so much right now by Kelis

Young hearts run free and Tears dry on their own. Just bring me through any potential moping :-)

CastielsClevererBetterSister · 07/03/2015 20:32

Not on my behalf. ExP would see me out and play Westlife "when you're looking like that" on the jukebox on a loop. He was a knob.

LovesPeace · 07/03/2015 20:35

Ed Sheeran's A team, because I found out he'd been using girls/women.

I was quite depressed at the time, as I was grieving for two people who were very important to me, but I found that song lent me the anger I lacked. It helped me to leave the abusive dickhead, who could so abuse other women for his selfish little penis.

SnakeyMcBadass · 07/03/2015 20:40

You Oughtta Know- Alanis. The bile is fantastic.

OllyBJolly · 07/03/2015 20:49

We hadn't thought about a first dance song for our wedding. The DJ suggested Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. He obviously had never listened to the words!

He left me 4 years later, with a 2 yr old and a baby, a house in negative equity and no income. Devastated doesn't describe it. Anyway, that song came on the radio in the car, and through the tears, I heard what it really meant. You don't really need anyone else. Happiness and love comes from inside of you. So it went from a wedding song to my break up song.

"I learned to depend on me"

"I make you laugh, you make me cry..."

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 07/03/2015 21:02

I only had one break up (met DH v young) so mine is from the 90s. Don't Speak by No Doubt.

Looking back it is utterly inappropriate as he was a twat and was never my friend. But I don't was young and dramatic and had read too many novels.

MummyBtothree · 07/03/2015 21:03

Dedicated to my cheating ex...'Bye bye baby' by the bay city rollers Grin

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 07/03/2015 21:03

But I was young. .. Don't know where the extra don't came from.

FlyingPirate · 07/03/2015 21:12

When I broke up exdp he started telling everyone very intimate details about me/our relationship. I was very upset at the time but I heard Adele's Rolling in the Deep on the radio which gave me the idea/strength to tell him if he carried on then I would start telling people the dirty details about him. Problem solved.

"Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare."

Thank you Adele!

Rehab by Amy Winehouse was the soundtrack to the way I dealt with my most epic breakup.

And of course there was a lot of Bridget Jones - style ^All by myyyyyseeeeelllffff^

TheEagle · 07/03/2015 21:39

Italics fail!

Elledouble · 07/03/2015 21:41

I remember properly sobbing - the kind of crying where you're doubled up in pain - in an indie club when they played Love Will Tear Us Apart, just after my ex-husband left me. Oh, the shame.

sanityawol · 07/03/2015 21:42

Not 'my' song as I can't stand the bloody woman, but "Taking back my life' by Joss Stone was getting a lot of airplay when I split with exH.

It definitely seemed appropriate at the time.

TheNewSchmoo · 07/03/2015 21:42

Kelly Clarkson _ what doesn't kill you

Think you've got the best of me, think you've had the last laugh, think that everything good is gone... Etc kick arse stuff

revealall · 07/03/2015 21:43

I was on a mini break with DS' father (a few months before conception) and the video for Placebo's Bitter End came on the TV.I just knew in that moment that a) we were going to break up and b) something big would happen.

When we did break up ( he found someone else) Basement Jaxx Good Luck was playing as I drove home. Very apt and still makes me smile when I look at DS.

dwinnol · 07/03/2015 21:44

MacAlmot and Butler's Yes for me too.

"Yes I do feel better, I feel alright, I feel well enough to tell you what you can do with what you've got to offer."
Also Michael Bublé Cry Me a River.
"Now, you say you love me, you've cried the whole night through. Well you can cry me a river, I cried a river over you."
So important and have a whole playlist full of FUCK YOU songs.

TwoNoisyBoys · 07/03/2015 21:47

Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson - Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. I had this on a loop for whenever I had a wobble after telling ExH I wanted a divorcee. The words are PERFECT Smile

happy2bhomely · 07/03/2015 21:55

Mine was Toni Braxton, How could an angel break my heart. The line 'I wonder if she makes him smile, the way he used to smile at me. I hope she doesn't make him laugh, because his laugh belongs to me', used to leave me sobbing.

He broke my heart. We are now happily married and many, many years down the line, and it still gives me a lump in my throat.
