Did you have a break-up song? (lighthearted)

Because I think mine just became Madonna's Borderline Blush

Having had a very difficult convo with STBXH about our non existent future, I got in the car to drive home (we are already separated). Put the radio on and the above teeny 80's pop classic blasted out. And I sang out every word along with it, with feeling.

keep pushin' my love ...

Survivor by Destiny's Child - cheesy but awesome Grin

"Thought I couldn't breathe without you, I'm inhaling. Thought I couldn't see without you, perfect vision."

Lovebug85 · 07/03/2015 22:39

I remember sobbing in a club once the day after breaking up with my bf of 3 years when will you still love me tomorrow came on. Then I got angry and it was
Hole- Doll Parts ("he only loves those things because he loves to see them break") and
Basement Jaxx- good luck ("good luck in your new bed, enjoy your nightmares whilst your resting your head!") All pretty much summed him up really!!

Watchatalltimes · 07/03/2015 22:59

Mine was Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads and I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. The song that I really can't bear to listen to is If There's Any Justice by Lamar as XP used to play it whenever he wanted people to feel sorry for him.

Fizzyfuzzy123 · 08/03/2015 02:25

Just found out tonight my boyfriend has been living a double life for months and been cheating on me. Currently laid in bed listening to al green how can you mend a broken heart

Elledouble · 08/03/2015 08:39

Oh no, Fizzyfuzzy! Sorry to hear that, what a bastard. Hope you got some sleep, and that things start to improve soon.

Redhead11 · 08/03/2015 08:46

For me it is Elton John's I'm Still Standing. I think he thought i would take him back if he snapped his fingers, right up until I signed the divorce papers. Elton's song kept reminding me that I was still standing and I really didn't need the bastard. And I am still standing 'better than I've ever been, looking like a true survivor'.

Wasted Time ... The Eagles

PeppermintCrayon · 08/03/2015 09:16

Another vote for Weak As I Am by Skunk Anansie.

ValancyJane · 08/03/2015 09:18

I had a breakup song CD, I was that bloody happy to be away from the bastard!!!

The ones that always spring to mind are Taylor Swift 'Mean' (as he was an incredibly horrible person who treated me like crap for most of our relationship) and Beyonce 'Best Thing I Never Had' (the line 'thank god I dodged a bullet' still rings true four years on!)

operaha · 08/03/2015 09:39

Times like these - foo fighters

nothings gonna stop us now - star ship

ScorpioMermaid · 08/03/2015 09:42

slightly off subject as we never split up but last summer my husband was getting close to a colleague at work. There was never any flirty/sexy messages (I checked Blush) but I was the sheer volume of the messages and phone calls back and forth, from 6am to 11pm some days! It broke my heart. I had a panic attack when I confronted him about it and he immediately stopped contact with her after realising he'd hurt me. He admitted he liked the attention which hurt like hell as I was ways there and we have a good relationship.. anyway..
Sam Smith - Not the Only one..
'you and me, we made a vow, for better or for worse. I can't believe you let me down, the truth is the way that it hurts'

KikitheKitKat · 08/03/2015 10:28

Like Redhead mine was 'I'm Still Standing' but before I got to that stage it was Chicago's 'Hard Habit to Break' ("living without you, takes a lot of getting used to, I'll learn to live with it, but I don't want to" - God how I sobbed to that one!

Reallyme71 · 08/03/2015 10:45

Scorpio mine is the same song and for similar reasons; sadly we did split and I'm now divorced but I am glad you worked it out Smile

This isn't my break up song but how I feel now; I am so relieved it is over and although this song sounds a bit bitter it is these lines that really resonate with me

"Since you’ve been gone I’ve felt so free, to be the person that I want to be
I’ve never felt this way before"

SteveBrucesNose · 08/03/2015 10:50

Oasis - Whatever

I thought I'd seriously damaged my voice after the amount of time screeching 'I'm frreeeeeeee-eeeeeeee to do whatever I, whatever I choose' etc etc etc

pineapplechick · 08/03/2015 11:04

Long time ago: at first it was Nothing Compares to You by Sinead O'Connor but that rapidly changed to These Boots are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra Grin

(No I'm not quite that old but that's still the best break-up song ever!)

And of course Hit the Road, Jack!

iwashappy · 08/03/2015 11:26

Crying In The Rain - Everly Brothers

Trying to stay strong when I feel like falling apart

You Ruin Me - The Veronicas

Heard it when I was out recently and it struck a chord

Love On The Rocks - Neil Diamond

"Love on the rocks ain't no surprise, pour me a drink and I'll tell you some lies" - my ex-DH to a tee although I didn't know it at the time

TwatFaceBitch · 08/03/2015 11:33

Madonna power of goodbye.
It was out the same time I finally ended for good my 4 year long relationship. It was one of those emotional roller coast ones we literally where mad passionately in love one day, to hating each others guts the next. We were like chalk and cheese. Opposite attract and all that. when I ended it I later heard this song and it was like a back up to my feelings.

Rebecca2014 · 08/03/2015 11:40

This is great! feeling sad over marriage break up today.

Gabrielle-Rise
Sam Bailey-Skyscraper

havemercy · 08/03/2015 11:40

Ahem, my break up song, many many moons ago, was Kim by Eminem Blush

I must have been really angry! It would have me in gut wrenching tears as it had a line somewhere along the lines of "I really hate you" and then "oh god I love you"

I've explained that really badly! Blush

TwatFaceBitch · 08/03/2015 11:42

"The Power Of Good-Bye"

Your heart is not open so I must go
The spell has been broken, I loved you so
Freedom comes when you learn to let go
Creation comes when you learn to say no

You were my lesson I had to learn
I was your fortress you had to burn
Pain is a warning that something's wrong
I pray to God that it won't be long
Do ya wanna go higher?

[Chorus:]

There's nothing left to try
There's no place left to hide
There's no greater power
Than the power of good-bye

Your heart is not open so I must go
The spell has been broken, I loved you so
You were my lesson I had to learn
I was your fortress

[Chorus2:]

There's nothing left to lose
There's no more heart to bruise
There's no greater power
Than the power of good-bye

Learn to say good-bye
I yearn to say good-bye

pocketsaviour · 08/03/2015 11:52

My first ever break up song was Sinead O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares 2U" which I played at max volume on repeat on my turntable, must have driven my mum and the neighbours insane Grin

When I was splitting with my husband I found James Blunt's "Tears and Rain" very comforting. I also played the hell out of Shakira's "No". "No, no me mires como antes, no hables en plural..." ("No, don't look at me like you used to, don't talk to me about 'us'")

The end of my last relationship was all about Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" when I was angry, and then to be positive Patti Rothburg's "Change Your Ways":
Now is the time to change your ways
Now is the rest of your days
So forget old dreams that have passed this way
No more hanging on to yesterday

BikeRunSki · 08/03/2015 11:56

I am extremely old and have been married for 15 years, but the soundtrack to the breakup with bf prior to DH was "Don't Get Weird on Me" by Lloyd Cole, with a bit of "Creep"'by Radiohead thrown in.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 08/03/2015 11:57

I love Pink, and broke up with my ex-H exactly when her Funhouse album came out (about her breaking up with her DH... Even though they got back together.) it was PERFECT timing for me, as I could relate to every song. I still love "So What" to death - best feisty break-up anthem ever, and a real reminder as to what financial independence means to women's freedom and choices.

Oh, and "Fuck You" by Ceelo Green. :)

Rebecca2014 · 08/03/2015 12:02

You'll think of me -Keith Urban

Marmaladybird · 08/03/2015 12:06

The whole of 'Electra Heart' by Marina and The Diamonds.

I had a song on there for every fucker that was pissing me off at the time. Made me smirk, cry and feel very empowered from beginning to end. Gems on there include 'Homewrecker', 'Lies', 'Buy The Stars' and 'Hypocrates'.

And I can still listen to it now and love it every bit as much - highly recommended.

Also:

'Leave Me Out Of It' The Feeling
'Not Like The Movies' Katy Perry

I listened to those two in the run up to D-Day - I had no idea what was happening, just felt sad that we were coming apart. As soon as I knew there was someone else involved, I quickly switched.

Can't listen to James Blunt as he used to sit around moping listening to Blunt and just zone us all out. Also can't listen to Kylie Minogue 'I Believe in You' as he came home one day and started a conversation about it, saying 'everyone' in work said it was really good and now I have visions of her dedicating that song to him at some point...
