Lock on bedroom door?

So my DH has just come home with a lock to put on our bedroom door. It doesn't sit easy with me but I can't really explain why. He says it's 'just in case'. I don't think it's necessary and is just going to prompt questions. We have a 3 yr old and 9 week old.

What does anyone else think about this?

Just in case of what ?

I think fair enough, am guessing he is just worried about a child walking in on you having sex?

Teaching them to knock is a life skill. Just saying.
I've considered a lock. (DH mentioned his mum and stepdad had one).
But my DC are now 6 & 8. Never actually happened (them walking in mid shag I presume he's concerned about).
But my friend thinks hers is essential.

Yes he is magpiegin, but we're not at it in the middle of the day, only once they're in bed so is it necessary?! I know children get up in the evenings but not sure it's worth a lock. I don't know - can't put my finger on why it doesn't seem right to me...

My parents always had a lock and it never crossed my mind it was to so with sex. I think it's a good idea. Just make sure the children can't lock themselves in the room though!

Let's say the door is locked and a child tries to come in, isn't it worse to then explain make up some random reason why the door was locked?

I would much rather make up a reason than risk my toddler seeing Mummy with her legs in the air and Daddy pounding away #scarredforlife

Timefortea if you're not comfortable with outside the duvet sex and locks on the door then just say no to him putting a lock on the door.

It's not a marriage deal breaker I don't think.

Is your 3 year old already in the habit of wandering about at night? If not, I would wonder why your H has suddenly felt the need for a lock. (I suppose it could just have been a case of walking past a display of locks and thinking, hmm, and buying one rather than anything more specific - does he tend to make random purchases?)

Bit odd yeah. Ask him "In case of what?" and report back.

Having walked in on parents and various foster parents having sex, use the lock.

You can always say there was something behind the door or something, and it's far preferable to being caught in the act. It's mentally scarring, even 15 years later. Eurgh.

Also, if you're having sex under the duvet, you're missing out ;)

its never been an issue in our house

sometimes we have a quickie in the afternoon while the kids are occupied elsewhere and we lock the door...it is just a quickie and normal service resumes

He says in case of them walking in on us having sex. The 3 yr old is out like a light from 7pm and isn't toilet trained at night yet so not wandering around. Tend to start under the duvet as I'm always so cold!!

Also, we have a 9 week old baby!! I think he's getting withdrawal symptoms and thinks when we finally get a moment to ourselves we're going to pounce on each other like rampant teenagers I know that's what he'd like

We have a lock on our door after our toddler walked in once.

We've both been able to completely relax since, rather than one ear on alert and always on parent mode.

Sex is far more enjoyable since so I highly recommend it.

Growing up my parents always had a lock on their bedroom door. Just a slide along one not a key job. It never crossed my mind that it was odd, but tbh we were brought up to believe that bedrooms were private and you never entered without knocking, and they extended the same courtesy to me and my brother.

We have spoke about it as adults and it wasnt just used for sex, it was used when wrapping xmas/birthday gifts etc.
