The Brave Babes Battle Bus - A New Year, A New YOU!

Mouseface · 11/01/2014 21:38

New Year Resolutions Anyone?

Welcome one and all, I'm Mouse, nice to meet YOU. :)

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, it's all up to you.

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's in YOUR hands.

Whatever your goal, you'll find unconditional support here. Always.

There will be talk of drinking quite often and those who fall off the Bus will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY threads would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers, but EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE :)

There are no hard and fast rules, other than the support here is unconditional, it may be in the form of tough love at times, but it's always meant with the very best of intentions.

There are two sayings that we rather like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

For those of you who'd like some history, here is the very first thread and the reason that we're all here now. FIRST THREAD

And here is the lastest thread, which you can scroll back through to see the other JOURNEYS SO FAR

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, it is honest and it will help you to achieve what it is that you seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

See you soon. x

Happy Birthday Ma I hope you're having a lovely time Grin

Happy Birthday Mouse I hope you're in the bosom of your lovely family enjoying that yummy meal you mentioned earlier, sounds divine. 'Firsts' can be really odd, difficult, highly emotional, overwhelming feelings. Take all the love that's being given to you. Thanks Cake

Good evening all Brave Babes Day 13 (oh yes, you heard correctly) WOOOO HOOOO Grin went round to a friends earlier (whom I would usually drink Cava with) and we drank tea Shock. I'm beginning to realise the 'Habit Change' - reprogramming as someone mentioned earlier. I am really tired though ( had about 4 hours last night) Hmm

Just a thought, I know that I wouldn't be able to have alcohol in the house (especially a cold bottle of white wine) and not drink it. The temptation for me would be too much Blush

What time does the party start then?

dementedma · 14/01/2014 21:39

My goodness, thank you all for the birthday wishes and pms. How very kind. I have had z wonderful day and the family have clubbed together to buy me a course of glider lessons! I have wanted to do this for years and am well excited. It's great being 50 lol.
Hard part now is getting into low carb boot camp and being back dry for the rest of January.so sorry for all the struggling babes when I have had such a lovely day...
mouse happy birthday babe. I'm sure you feel your mum all around you today.
alias did I read 14 days upthread??????

ruralreynard · 14/01/2014 22:02

Glider lessons !! go ma sounds amazing so Envy. So glad you have had a lovely day Smile.

dementedma · 14/01/2014 22:10

Yes, I shall "slip the surly bonds of earth...and touch the face of God"

ruralreynard · 14/01/2014 22:46

Spanna 13 days, great news Envy you are really socking it to spaniel ears for tits Grin .
Party requests well when I was on the disco/party scene regularly it was a song called YMCA that was being played everywhere and I liked Blondies Heart of Glass. Yes I am very very old LOL. Grin

ruralreynard · 14/01/2014 23:23

Day 2 done.
Goodnight all xx

Babystepsx · 15/01/2014 00:38

Still here ! Am on my second week of no drinking in the week . ast week was AF Mon tue and thu ( planned to have drink wed ) but only had 1/2 bottle red .
AF Mon and tue this week and will have a couple Wed.
Revalations for me .... How much nicer I am without wine in the evening , how much more awake I am , how brilliant I can be at reading bedtime stories and really enjoying them ! , how much more organised i am and how much more time i seem to gain, how it doesn't really bother me too much because I CAN do this and soon hope to o AF all week .
yep am def on board still and off to read the thread again x

Slapntickleothewenches · 15/01/2014 08:45

Wow ma life definitely begins at 50 then!
soc goodness that sounds simply awful Poor you having to stay in a beach shack in the sunshine :o
baby sadly I have also found I am a much nicer person when I'm sober. The one thing DJ has definitely proved is just how far reaching the consequences of my/ our drinking are :(
Today is day 15 and I now feel oddly ambivalent about the whole thing, as if being AF is just a normal part of life now and the big challenge is over Hmm
DH is still sipping his way daintily through the last of the Christmas booze and we STILL haven't bought any in 2014- this is definitely a record for us and has probably sent the Waitrose customer profiling computers into meltdown :o
TBH I think it took me to stop to encourage DH to cut back so dramatically as we are partners in crime when it comes to drinking. If I'm not taking part it seems to have lost a lot of fun for him so it's win win really :)
Hope the rest of you babes are in fine fettle :)

SweetLathyrus · 15/01/2014 08:59

Ma, I am in awe, glider lessons - another good reason for keeping a clear head!

Soc I hope you're feeling stronger now, what was up (if it's ok to ask)?

If the party is still going, can I go back to the school disco and have Club Tropicana please Spanna, and Rural, YMCA doesn't age you, it hasn't been off cheesey disco playlists, ever - you could be twenty-one!

Babywell done on the controlled drinking, that for me would take more strength than being AF. Glad you're seeing the benefits.

Right, back to work for me - distracting myself from the aches and pains after yesterdays gym session. Have a good day everyone.

SweetLathyrus · 15/01/2014 09:01

Slap Normal is good, right? Certainly begins to confirm the 14 days to build a new habit theory Smile

ruralreynard · 15/01/2014 10:18

Good morning all you awesome DJ babes. You are an inspiration.
Day 2 was hard but going for day 3 today Hmm
Big wave to all the new babes i seem to have missed somehow.
Onboard think you are on same day as me, so many are so far ahead Envy Still ODAAT Smile.
Big wave to sweet slap baby ma soc spanna mouse isinde why joey and all other babes posting or lurking. I luffs you allSmile
Im thinking of you and hoping you are OK xx

ItsTheOnlyWayToLive · 15/01/2014 10:35

Morning all, well done to all who have abstained another day. Its a lovely feeling, the feeling of pride at doing it again, the clear head in the morning, the determination...big hugs, you are all wonderful and brave.

Fairenuff- yy to this:

'And whilst AF wine tastes horrible it's worth bearing in mind that alcohol itself has a pretty horrible taste too. When we first started drinking, we all had to push past that 'yuck' stage and learn to like the acquired taste'. I see what you are saying. It is an illusion, will bear that in mind the next time I visit the supermarket. I quite like flavoured teas, too.

Had a great day yesterday, not as busy, people chatty and happy, finished work for the rest of the week on a high. Then spaniel ears paid a visit. Failed miserably. Felt like a bag of poo after 2 Baileys and about 3 glasses of wine. Feel worse this morning.

Looking forward to starting again after my birthday, at least there'll be no interruptions then, a straight run. I want to regain that sense of pride. feel the determination, and have a clear head again in he morning. Is that a good sign?

Hope you all have a good day today xxxxx

beachestoexplore · 15/01/2014 11:45

Yes, I think that's a good sign thisis. You liked not drinking, can see lots of lovely benefits and want a bit more of it. Don't beat yourself up about last night, it happens. Glad work was better though x

Spanna get you lining up the days babe! Mmm Vinyl, the first single I ever bought was Mirror Mirror by Dollar Grin. Now THAT is a confession!! I heard it on the radio the other day and apparently it was '82. Can we put that on the turntable! Pleeeease. I have a twirling, clapping routine to go with it Grin

onboard 55% !! That is a really encouraging statistic Smile well done on day 2. You are in very good company with Rural

Ma glad you had a good birthday and wow to the gliding - balls of steel clearly Grin

Waves to slap, sweet, steps. And all babes on earlier pages Grin

Im hoping you pop in today x

spanna41 · 15/01/2014 12:27

Beaches I remember it well and really wanted to be her (there that's my confession) either her or Debbie Harry Hmm I was in the pub the other day (on my ginger beer) and heard Kajagoogoo (spelled wrong) do remember them? That hair Shock 'you're to shy to shine hush, hush eye to eye....'

So it's Day 15 for you Beaches 14 for me. I can't believe I've got this far.

I saw a flat yesterday that DD1 and I loooooved. 3 beds, no garden or outside space Sad (top flat) 2 minutes from the beach and five mins walk from station. Going back to see with DD2 today. Finished to a really high spec, it would be like moving into a posh holiday home, 2 attic rooms ripe for conversion ( and it's really reasonably priced) Sshhh don't tell anyone Hmm We'll see Smile

at Rural Day 3 keep going babe, you know you can beat saggy titted spaniel ears Grin

Steps good to have you back and well done x

Ma gliding lessons Shock you certainly do have balls of steel, rather you than me Smile what a lovely present

Slap sounds like it's really balancing out with the AF days, glad you're having such an influence on DH Smile

Sweet the stiffness on the first day is the worst but they do say 'no pain no gain'

I'm please check in if you can

beachestoexplore · 15/01/2014 13:01

Grin oh yes, the kagagoogoo hair!

The flat sounds really exciting and with the beach so close it offsets the garden. You could even convert an ironing room one day Grin. Hope dd2 likes it x

babyjane1 · 15/01/2014 13:09

spanna too shy shy hush hush, kajagoogoo, I'm putting it on to my housework right now, thanks for the reminder, love it, what a tune. My first record was Gorgio Moroder "together in electric dreams" aaaah the memories, when I used to go to the pub they had to open both the swing doors to fit my hai through, honestly xx

babyjane1 · 15/01/2014 13:43

Meant hair xx

beachestoexplore · 15/01/2014 13:46

While your first single has much more credibility than mine baby, the hair Shock sounds....... scary Grin.

spanna41 · 15/01/2014 14:05

What's ironing Beaches I've never heard of it before?
Grin

Baby oh yes the crimped hair and thick black eyeliner Shock I have an old passport with such a becoming photo of me Blush

Adam Ant, Dead or Alive, New Order oh and the lovely Siouxsie but then I quite liked ACDC, Black Sabbeth Blush the rockier the better.

I think we may have to have a Babes music confession Hmm to keep saggy bum at bay tonight.

Rural YMCA rock Grin

spanna41 · 15/01/2014 14:14

Baby I've had to listen to it on youtube Smile so catchy. There are so many tunes flying through my head now Smile Do you remember Haircut 100, that cute little boy, bless. Hazey Fantazy now they were one of my all time favs 'Good times'

spanna41 · 15/01/2014 14:15

oh yes Isinde Suzie (people used to say I looked like her) Hmm I think I'm around the same age as you (46) Shock where has all that time gone Hmm

How are you Isinde?

spanna41 · 15/01/2014 14:36

The first album I bought was Parallel Lines by Blondie and my first single was a picture disc of Freebird by Leonard Synnard (think that's what they were called) My Mum & Dad subjected me to their music collection both hippies Grin
