The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Stepping Into Christmas With Sobriety On Their Minds.

Hello, tis me, Mouse Smile

This is a thread for those who are worried about their drinking habits, relationships with alcohol, and/or drugs.

Even if you think your intake has gone up more today than the last or this week than last, come and join us on Gerald, the amazing, always room for more, fully stocked with glorious treats and donned in his Christmas Decorations, Bus!

We are a supportive thread, full of very different posters, from various backgrounds. Some of us drink in moderation, allowing ourselves the odd glass or two as a treat, or just because we're in control of our drinking for that day.

One Day At A Time.

We have those who abstain completely, and those who wake every day to Day 1 and hope with all of their hearts that they can, and will, make it to Day 2.

If you've followed our journey to date, you'll know who most of us are by now smile and we kind of have two 'sayings', that sum up who we are -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

That said, we will not have any bashing of support groups, such as AA or Community Addiction Support Teams, or even other support threads, posts like that will be reported if the need arises, so 'Orange Paper supporters' don't waste your time please :)

This Bus is a place for honesty, sanctuary and safety, something that has taken almost four years for a number of very special, very lovely, very honest and caring Babes to establish.

So, come find a seat, grab something warm from the supply cupboard at the back of the Bus, it's filled with (non alcoholic or narcotic) delicious, luxury treats and HUGE fluffy quilts, plus anything else you might need to help YOU get through YOUR day a minute, or an hour at a time.

And, if you'd like to see where this all began - This Is The Reason We're All Here, The Original JWN Thread

And This Is Our Previous Thread, With Links To Those Over The Past Few Years

We hope to meet you soon :) x

Hey indie how's tricks?
Ds has enjoyed having both the dds home tonight. They have been making him laugh and showing him highly inappropriate funny videos on their phones.
He is laughing so we are turning a blind eye on this occasion. (Not hard core,,just rude enough to make an 11 year old boy corpse into giggles)

aliasjoey · 22/11/2013 21:42

purple thanks for letting us know about mouse

fatedtopretend · 22/11/2013 21:55

Oh Mouse, my thoughts are with you and your family x

fatedtopretend · 22/11/2013 21:57

Day 3 is going well, the man turned up with Chinese food as a surprise and scuppered any idea of drinking, he's just left, I am happy and full and going to pass day 3 for the first time in a long time I hope Smile

Anneisnotmyname · 22/11/2013 22:06

Well done on day three fated, for some reason I find it the hardest day of all.

Glad your ds is enjoying himself Ma, I feel for you both. Hopefully having a six foot plus friend will help resolve the situation x

venusandmars · 22/11/2013 22:06

Well done fated, isn't it interesting how if your tummy is full of dinner, the need for wine can disappear a little...

ruralreynard · 22/11/2013 22:30

fated DAY 3, snap Grin well done on beating the ww Smile. She seems to have stopped whispering here so hopefully will make it through day 3 too.

SocFish · 22/11/2013 23:00

Morning Babes
Day 10 here by the skin of my teeth. Have woken up with a cold though, so not feeling invincible....but that might help me stay off the wine tonight.

I think faire said further up something about that I will wonder what all the fuss was about. That was fabulous. It really made me think.

I love the little gems I get from this bus. They really do stop me in my tracks. So babes keep posting. Grin Hope you're all doing ok on a Friday night.
x

SocFish · 22/11/2013 23:01

rural and fated Day 3 is crap. Well done.

SocFish · 22/11/2013 23:01

lol. I mean crap as in one of the hardest days.

SocFish · 22/11/2013 23:03

ma I hate it when my kids go through issues with other kids. It breaks your heart when your kids are unhappy.

fatedtopretend · 22/11/2013 23:45

Thanks Anne, Venus, rural and soc, I have really enjoyed tonight.

After the man left I have been chomping in sweeties as per the advice on here-mini whams are fab!!! I feel ace! Cannot believe food and good company and sweeties are what I need!

ruralreynard · 22/11/2013 23:46

soc Thanks for the mention, glad all is well with you tomorrow morning Confusedstill seems weird you being in the future so to speak Grin
Day 3 done, so bl88dy hard.
Off to bed now, goodnight allxx

chitofftheshovel · 22/11/2013 23:53

I realise it's late but is there room for a little one? I'm at the wrong end of a bottle at the moment, and to be honest, at the wrong end of far too much for the past 15 years. Anyone else a smoker too? The two just go hand in hand and I beat myself up over both. Can identify with other posters and their stories.
I had a brilliant 'community' night tonight at a lantern parade, local pub, had a couple there and really enjoyed the spirit of the evening. And then stopped at the shop, just one beer and a bottle of wine. Just wish I could leave it at having a brilliant night! And a good nights sleep. I want this looooonnnngggg party to be over now, concentrate on kids, house, job etc and yet the bottle calls! Grrrrr...
So, can I, promise I won't make a mess.......

ruralreynard · 22/11/2013 23:54

fated xposted, well done, sounds like you had a lovely day. Smile
Sweeties aah yes know all about that, have eaten all sweets and chocolate in the house today if I stay A/F my backside is going to take up two seats on Gerald Blush
Right really am going to bed now, night all xx

fatedtopretend · 23/11/2013 00:20

Hi chit, having a cig during a sweetie break, have you any sweets in? Cannot believe how much they help!!

chitofftheshovel · 23/11/2013 00:37

thanks Fated. I'm not a massive sweet person to say the least, but if that gets the 'rush' i'm willing to replace it, anything is better. Oddly I don't eat shit 'cos I'm aware of what I put into myself.....and yet smoke and drink. Go figure!

SocFish · 23/11/2013 02:24

rural I am your future.....

Imdoingthis · 23/11/2013 07:39

Welcome chit Im not a regular smoker but when drunk I do like a smoke so understand how they fit hand in glove.

Imdoingthis · 23/11/2013 07:43

Morning brave babes....
I am noticing that it is a lot easer for me to not drink when it's the time off the month for me Hmm its almost effortless < hence me on day 5 today Grin
Is this just me or has any one else made this connection too?
Feel like I'm dying going to bleed to death but I'm sober and happy

lookingforhope · 23/11/2013 08:17

Morning ladies. Up early for kids activities and (eeek!) 90 minute fitness class for me so glad I didn't drink last night (day 5). Tonight tricky though cos always have a drink with dh on Saturday and he wants us to go to a night out with his friends which involves drinking. Not at the stage where I have declared myself formally off booze yet so hoping tp have one or two pints then stop. Or might try to wriggle out of the evening? If I could drink the odd pint or a wine on a night out and then go back to a cup of tea that would be my ideal, but at the moment not sure I cam. Anyway, need to find dd's shoes so back later x

Mamabear74 · 23/11/2013 08:27

Nice work fated! Agree with other posters that day 3 is hard work. venus is right too (as ever), often food eases the craving!
Thanks for the encouragement rural, it's mainly this pigging cold stopping me, I should be grateful but no, I'm moody. Radiator in the living room not working last 2 days, finally got it sorted so hopefully my mood will lift.
Hope you are ok mouse and that DH is helping you through this difficult time.
How are i'm, anne, soc, alias, indie, purple, guggs, faire, looking, beaches today?
Hope everyone is ok, looks like you & I are synched i'm, but not made the connection to that, more the cold I have.
Take it easy babes and enjoy your weekend!

Fairenuff · 23/11/2013 09:16

Morning all and welcome to chit Smile

hope it sounds like you feel 'obliged' to drink even when you don't want to. Would it be easier for you to not drink anything, rather than have one or two and try to stop?

If you think you won't be able to not drink, I would honestly say don't go. Why put your health, happiness and wellbeing at risk for an occasion that is so less important in comparison?

When I go out I drink slimline tonic with ice and lemon mostly. Very tasty.

Fairenuff · 23/11/2013 09:19

chit I meant to say that I'm not a massive sweet person either but that just means that my body was used to getting sugar from alcohol, so whenever I was hungry my brain would direct me straight to wine, rather than other sources of sugar. So just beware that when you crave a drink, you might just need a meal or a sweet drink.
