Looking for motivational songs to help with overcoming H affair and deceit

Whatnext074 · 01/10/2013 19:36

Some of you may have read my post on my H leaving me for a co-worker and know that I am really struggling to cope.

Music is very important to me but I can't bear to have radio on or use my I-pod as there are so many songs that bring back memories.

My H has an I-tunes account which I don't think he's deactivated yet so I'm looking to fill my I-pod with songs that will help me during the bad times to get my strength back and I would like some suggestions.

I have thought of Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know and Kelis, Caught Out There (I hate you so much right now).

Are there any other suggestions?

Well, this might sound a bit 'off' but what about Kirsty McColl 'In these shoes'. I suggest it because it's a funny, sassy and feisty number and I think you need that. Smile

BenNJerry · 01/10/2013 19:40

Destiny's Child, Survivor always works for me! I also like "Before he Cheats", Carrie Underwood.

Hoping you start to feel better soon.

VisualCharades · 01/10/2013 19:44

NotYoMomma · 01/10/2013 19:47

Kelly Clarkson - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger?

Not relationship based, but The Shamen's 'I can move any mountain' is pretty inspiring and funky.

Vivacia · 01/10/2013 19:49

Weak by Skunk Anansie did it for me.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/10/2013 19:49

Oh lord OP I could have written that post a year ago and made a play list full of these songs.

It's a bit of a mixed bag - I added songs as I heard them and they struck a chord. I have no idea what your musical taste is so I'll add some different ones. Hope there's something that resonates:

Move in the Right Direction: Gossip (I had this as my ring tone! It's ACE!!)
The World's Greatest: R Kelly
After the Storm: Mumford & Sons
Moving on Up: M People
I'm Still Standing: Elton John
I will Survive: Gloria Gaynor (of course!!)
Better in Time: Leona Lewis
Fuck You: Ceelo Green
Smile Like you Mean It: The Killers
Can't Stop Now: Keane
Better Do Better: Hard-Fi
Bulletproof: La Roux
Don't Stop: Fleetwood Mac
Don't Stop Me Now: Queen
Every Day I Love you Less and Less: Kaiser Chiefs
Good Day Sunshine: TheBeatles
Times Like These: Foo Fighters
Rolling in the Deep: Adele
Like a Rolling Stone: Bob Dylan
Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It): Beyonce (Natch!)
When Did your Heart Go Missing: Rooney
I'm Outta Love: Anastasia
Somebody That I Used to Know: Gotye
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye: Soft Cell
Hold On: Wilson Phillips

Keep on keeping on OP

D.I.V.O.R.C.E.

couldn't resist Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 01/10/2013 19:50

Just wanted to say that they are all angry / motivational / upbeat apart from the Mumford & Sons one. Approach that one with caution! I broke down on a train to that one! Blush

BunnyLebowski · 01/10/2013 19:51

Sorry OP Sad. Loving your attitude though.

lemonstartree · 01/10/2013 19:52

then there is " I Will Survive" of course ; the classic strong womans anthem

mrsSOAK · 01/10/2013 20:00

Erm, not sure you will like this but if your feeling angry I would go with slipknot Spit it out.
"All you wana do is drag me down , All I wana do is stamp you out"
Words to live by!

Putitonthelist · 01/10/2013 20:02

Better in time - Leona Lewis

Whatnext074 · 01/10/2013 20:02

Oh blimey, some great choices there. I had forgotten about Weak by Skunk Anansie and although I'm not a Katy Perry fan, Roar gets turned up when I do turn the radio on.

The Fleetwood Mac one is on an advert at the moment and I try and keep that in my head when I try to sleep.

Also - What Goes Around Comes Around by Justin Timberlake

You have to listen to the Gossip one

That's an order Wink

Whatnext074 · 01/10/2013 20:14

BitOutOfPractice -' Reminiscing will get you nowhere. Never say never, starting over' - I haven't heard that one before but I love Gossip. Thanks!

It makes me dance every time

One step closer I'm feeling fine
getting better one day at a time
Im moving forward with all of my might
Im heading toward a new state of mind
so I hold back tears
move in the right direction
face my fears
move in the right direction
Im doing fine
one step closer every day at the time
I wont lose my mind, lose my mind, uh uh
Motivation a powerful strength
hesitation was my first instinct
I got the notion my weakness was
total devotion its okay
Because I will hold back tears
so I can move in the right direction
I have faced my fears
now I can move in the right direction
Im doing fine
one step closer every day at a time
I wont lose my mind, lose my mind, uh uh
Keeping my head up, looking forward
reminiscing will get you no where
never say never starting over
its not perfect but its getting closer
I hold back tears
so I can move in the right direction
I have faced my fears
now I can move in the right direction
Im doing fine
one step closer every day at the time
I wont lose my mind, lose my mind, ah ha!

Thorn in my side, Eurythmics got me thru a bad break-up. Also, for some odd reason, that song from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack "Girl, you'll be a woman"

Also, Rolling Stones "you can't always get what you want"

But looking back, I am v grateful to all the scumbag exes, as if they had not exited my life then I would not have been free and single when DH turned up on the scene. To a man , I am so relieved they broke up with me, and feel I dodged several bullets! Get the anger out, talk it out and then...NEXT!

MissDjax · 01/10/2013 20:42

Christina Aguilera - Fighter.

AnyFucker · 01/10/2013 20:45

For me, it would be "A Little Time" Beautiful South.

mrsm22 · 01/10/2013 20:50

I once made myself a 'happy tape' (yes tape) years ago when I was trying to get over someone and every time I felt really low I would put it on. It's really a very good idea. Some great songs have been given above.

Kelly Clarkson - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger is defo a good choice.
Yazz - the only way is up
Madonna - get into the groove
Bonnie Tyler - if you were a woman and I was a man.
Anything by Bonnie Tyler, she's the queen of rock power ballads and always makes me feel good. Anything upbeat. Avoid Coldplay and anything by Leona Lewis.

Whatnext074 · 01/10/2013 20:53

I agree, Leona Lewis make me cry and I'm doing enough of that right now Sad

I'll try anything to help myself, thanks.

Ashes - Embrace. Old now, but I played it over and over on the way to something that was very high stakes for me, to give me something to hold on to if it all went pear shaped. "now watch me rise up and leave all the ashes you made out of me", over and over again. Very helpful for me.

MsPavlichenko · 01/10/2013 20:58

Gonna Get along without you now, Viola Wills. Upbeat, and great to dance to as well.
