mine does. i find it soooooo frustrating. can't plan ahead. sometimes can't plan till the end of the week even! always have to book holidays last minute so don't get to look forward to them, its all done in a last minute panic. Can't commit to seeing friends till last minute in case dp's work changes. can't have a regular hobby myself as could never commit to a set evening free. he's worked all weekend and now buggered off till next sunday. worst thing was i only found out on friday so no time to arrange anything with pals. yesetrday i spoke to no-one apart from ds and by lunchtime i was looking forward to going back to work on monday. how sad is that? we have tried everything to make it more workable but it is that nature of his work - he is freelance. anyone else in the same boat?

Lonely isnt it>

Well, dh is actually home and even made it home for 6.30pm tonight - shock horror! He is, however, asleep on sofa with large glass of red wine by his side. Must go and 'rescue'red wine - to compensate for lack of adult conversation of course.

mustrunmore · 26/05/2006 22:01

Dh had today off, so we went out to give him some peace to repaint the cot. Got home 4pm, with him grteeting us with 'I feel dizzy from the fumes' (child safe paint!), so he went to bed at 8pm. Now he's at work for 14 days as of tomorrow. Maybe we'll see each other in the middle of the night for a while sometime!

Dh isn't home till tomorrow evening and we're off on holiday on Sunday. At least there are no school runs tomorrow. I feel so tired I got lost on my way home yesterday! So need a break. I have an extension on the last piece of coursework and long enough to enjoy this week off with the children without feeling guilty. I haven't been in bed before 3 or 4 am for 2 weeks now, and when you get up at 6.30 it doesn't mean much sleep. This has been the worst few weeks I remember - yeserday I drove 240 miles taking 1 child to an appointment then the rest shopping. So much for living in the sticks. Really miss my townie life. Not leaving the spa at the hotel all week next week!

vitomum · 27/05/2006 10:36

wow you really need a break swedish mum. that is hard core sleep deprivation. i hope you have a lovely realxing break. well, dp phoned yeterday to sya he wouldn;t be back tonight after all. then phoned again today to say that he would - albeit at about 3 am. as soon as he is up he will be handed ds whild i go intob town for shopping and meeting friends for lunch. just really feel i need to prioritise me time over family / dp time. i find it very gruelling being on my own with ds all week, even though he has been extremely good.

my Dh is Army so hours can be very unpredicatable. Often out of the house at 7.30am and on a good day is home by 6.30pm but more often than not later.

We cant book holidays or anything, as he usually gets 1 weeks notice of when his leave will be. The so called "rosta" that is printed each month changes so many times we dont bother looking at it anymore.

Big sympathies x

vitomum · 27/05/2006 10:43

really jandr's mummy! i would have thought the army would have been more organised than that! it's so annoying always having to go on last minute holidays isn't it. Bizarrely out last few holidays have been in the school holidays as well - ds isn't event at school yet!

Hope you enjoy your break swedish mum - I could not survive on such little sleep. Please recommend spa/hotel if any good - we are (i am) long overdue a bit of indulgence. Was promised spa weekend with my best mate (who unfortunately lives in Glos - rather too far from N.Yorks) for my 40th birthday which was in March but as usual dh can't commit to time off so I can't book anything. Funny that - i'm sure he'd commit if he was coming too or if I was taking the kids!

We're off tomorrow - never looked forward to a holiday so much. DSIL is coming in while we're away to clean the house - she has a cleaning business. Bought myself 2 books in the hope I get to read them...
Hope you all have a good half term weekxx

Have a great holiday SM, you sound like you deserve it!
