Good luck with the exam Cafe - you must be completely exhausted what with working shifts, studying all night when off & exams - I know that the medical students who've worked with me have been pasty, exhausted & existing on coffee, diet coke & hospital canteen sandwiches!! Well done for remaining so chipper!

cafecito - please forgive me if you think that I am being too probing; you seem to be working in a hospital but do not get paid. Do you receive accreditations towards your exams for simply being present? Sorry if this sounds naive but I am really out of touch with current practice!

Hi jynier- mainly I study in the library - sometimes I also work night shifts but only on placement for the learning experience. These placements aren't for my exams, but they are a great opportunity to work directly with some top consultants in the field that wouldn't happen otherwise, the things learned then translate into other things, and will help enormously in terms of experience and specialisation for things like a portfolio. The placements for exams are called student selected components, which are compulsory. We don't get paid, but do have to work - but then are graded on performance etc and need to write accounts of events. Then we are sometimes 'on call' at antisocial hours as well, but it's all part of the training. Exams and training are sort of merged into one, we have other exams that are not written as well, obviously- like osces (clinicals) and such fun stuff. Some universities are completely different though all try to follow GMC waffley guidance about what is expected of tomorrow's doctors.

and a little gollum-esque as I braved the train station this morning BEFORE coffee places opened. shocking. I rather enjoyed being so early though, maybe I will try and become nocturnal the other way around, like just get up super early like some people on this thread - it's so nice ! (the novelty will wear off, no doubt)

I do not like the way apple just consistently update with technology they already have in order to make more money from such people as myself- I actually wanted the bigger ipad with retina blablabla but I was sure they'll bring out a sleeker version in a couple ofmonths time, which would have irritated me greatly! no doubt the mini will face the same fate within a couple of months it will have fancy pants display. I'm probably going to give it to DS or lose it - I am terribly clumsy and drop things and break them a lot too (laptop....)

I should probably make a note that surgery is not the best career for me

jynier if you look up cafecito's other posts on MN you will see she is exceptionally energetic and apt at juggling with lots of stuff at the same time, no wonder you won't see many medical doctors/students on MN. I will stop here and let cafecito blow her own trumpet if she likes to .

first one in tonight

Eveing all well i got a call to work today at 16:15 to start work at 17:00! only five hours but its better than nothing good job i had work stuff ready out the door in ten mins inculding a shower though had to kick dp out the bath hoping for a good nights sleep tonight. Dp has work tommorrow so next weeks pay will be low but can cope just night all

Morning Kittie well it didnt last long wide awake sigh so been doing my colouring in book just now got a text from dp whos in the bedroom daying cough cough love you so made him a brew hes snuggled next to me and we are watching ultimate force from sky planner work was working at the mail centre doing poxy bag opening then sorting the mail into packets and letters ( the one job i dont like ) then was chucked on doing the rejects from the big manchine which i dont mind apart from the perm staff get chairs and we angency have to stand but overall it was ok

oh jynier . I'm sorry. I hope you've managed to drop off by now. My baby has just woken again but we have a very busy day ahead so this is me up now Sob

stars I'm sorry to hear that you are up too but I suppose being snuggled next to your partner makes up for it. In which subject was your degree? I take it there isn't suitable work opening up in that field (my apologies if you have already said that).
