Men who don't watch porn

FBworry · 10/12/2012 19:40

I do not believe all men watch porn.

However I wonder why they dont with it now being the "norm"?

Was there never any interest in the first place? Has it lost its shine? Is it a for feminist reasons?

Or is it more of a case of resisting temptation? As in they do want to watch but guilt and/or morals stop them? Fear of being caught?

We live in a time when we are constantly fed the message all men watch porn so nobody ever discusses those that don't watch it.

Know me too. Thank you for your comments.

Offred · 13/12/2012 13:52

No-one has said all women in porn are forced.

Are you going to now list the insults slung from the otherside? for balance...

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 13:53

Blame - It was my choice, I didn't have to do it as until the end - I worked for myself, no pimp involved as I was independant. I'm paying for it in my head now and the rest of the people I know involved pay for it everyday too, in their own way.

Really, I think worse of myself because I, unlike a lot of people I know, had a choice. I done it out of my own free will in the beginning and set it up myself. I had no excuse to be in it. I wasn't even in the really horrible sleazy end of it, I should have known better.

I don't and have never had any drug or alcohol problems, just incase knowing this is important.

Offred · 13/12/2012 13:54

Really though if the best argument for porn is "not all the women are forced" that's not a very good argument...

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 13:57

I wasn't forced so I don't believe everyone in the industry is forced, I made my excuses believing at the time that it wasn't that bad of an experience, I know many people in the same position.

Until you see how the women who have "managers" are treated, you have no idea.

Sorry to be blunt but do you know many people in porn? Personally? At all ends of the spectrum there is abuse.

I didn't "carry on and on" btw, I was only in it for a year, trust me, that's long enough to see what goes on behind the scenes.

mignonette · 13/12/2012 13:58

Exactly Offred....But telling themselves that keeps their conscience nice and clean. The conscience equivalent of anal bleaching so to speak Grin

ClaireBuckler · 13/12/2012 13:59

This is still going strong then! Can I ask a question that didn't get answered yesterday. Those who hate porn 'because its terrible for women'.... How do you feel about gay porn?

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:00

Thank you AF. I know that this is an issue that you have strong views on. We have discussed this on a couple of other threads, under my usual name.

Also - many of those men that you see in films are married or have partners who don't know, that is something most don't think about often.

Andula · 13/12/2012 14:02

morecheesegromit - if you look at the OPs questions, they are asking about why men don't watch, some of us have offered a slightly controversial reason for that, as a direct response to the debate questions posed and we get attacked for telling people their husbands are lying to them!

Offred, you said about 4000 pages ago that you were opposed to all forms of erotica, even books, which is a little extreme, don't you think?

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:02

Claire The most abused person I know is a gay man. :( I think they tend to get treated really badly. :(

They also suffer horribly from physical damage a lot.

Andula · 13/12/2012 14:05

Knownolies, why does he do it then?

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:07

He's troubled, really troubled. Mostly, I think he does it as it's all he knows. He has been doing it since he turned 15.

He's been beaten up, violently raped, had his life threatened, been sent to prison for retaliating when he was attacked!

I don't think he will ever get out of it.

Offred · 13/12/2012 14:09

No andula I never said that. I said I object to the degrading and humiliating treatment of women in written erotica.

I object to anyone being degraded and humiliated, really it is only in gay porn/prostitution where men are degraded and humiliated in a similar way by the sex industry.

Andula · 13/12/2012 14:13

Offred, women are routinely degraded and humiliated in newspapers and magazines every day, in broad daylight, so to speak.

Submissive or even abusive sex is a fetish for some women, look at 50 shades of grey, nothing wrong with it. It doesn't mean you're a slave to a man or they own you, that only happens if you give up all of your earning potential to become a housewife.

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:18

Even in 50 shades he realises the reason why he wants to humiliate her is wrong.

Submissive/Dominant sex is all fine, depending on the goals of each individual, proper consent and trust.

Offred · 13/12/2012 14:19

50 shades of grey is exactly what I had in my mind when I wrote that...

Why do you think pornographic images that are publicly displayed are not pornographic?

seeker · 13/12/2012 14:21

Andula, will you at least say why you won't answer my question?

Andula · 13/12/2012 14:21

Know, that doesn't stop women fingering themselves in the bath though ;)

Offred · 13/12/2012 14:21

Other than that I'm not sure what the point is? That women are routinely abused so that makes abuse of women in porn not abusive? Weird...

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:23

No it doesn't. But if you've actually read it - there isn't much actual humilation in it, it's actually quite vanilla for a BDSM erotica, nothing in it you couldn't find in Ann Summers.

Perhaps if the masses read proper humiliation erotica they wouldn't find it so titilating.

Andula · 13/12/2012 14:24

Offred, I don't consider pictures of katie price's thigh cellulite to be pornographic, but I do think it's degrading. I know it's not completely relevant but what's your view on tabloids and women's magazines that go on about people's physical appearance and personal lives?

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels · 13/12/2012 14:25

It doesn't mean you're a slave to a man or they own you, that only happens if you give up all of your earning potential to become a housewife.

What? Words fail me.

KnowNoLies · 13/12/2012 14:27

I was surprised at that too Blame.

Porn is perfectly acceptable but staying home to raise your children isn't. Confused

Offred · 13/12/2012 14:29

It's not relevant to the thread though andula. I've already explained countless times that I am a person who objects to all of the exploitation and degradation, I generally think I go to much greater lengths than the vast majority of people to avoid those things as well as being involved with community organisations concerned with actively improving things. However it isn't relevant to anything. Most people will not be as extreme as me, we are discussing porn specifically and objecting to porn specifically so not really caring about publication of someone's cellulite doesn't mean you can't object to porn.

Offred · 13/12/2012 14:30

I didn't rise to that blame!!! Oh no!!!
