Texting etiquette

You are seeing someone for four months, exclusively, every now and then he does a disappearing act and you don't hear from him for a day or two or three, then he just texts as normal and goes back to the 10 x texts or calls a day. He knows it bothers you because you told him TWICE!

What do you do when he finally does text or call after these intervals? Would you ignore, make him wait to get a response (how long?) or just text back as normal.

I know this seems trivial but its actually causing me a lot of heart ache because it is seems so hot and cold. I feel like the rug is pulled out from under my feet whenever this happens. He lives a long way away so we don't see each other very often, calls and texts are a lifeline really.

Any thoughts?

You don't need to tell him he is dumped, just dump him and act accordingly. Just go silent. No explanation. Nothing. Even if it requires a response from him- just don't bother.
He obviously doesn't get it and it isn't worth any further investment of your time.

And don't worry about the mutual friends business -they will understand and not judge you I am sure.

I am not sure about blocking his number but I think you could either unsubsubscribe to him on FB or delete him as a friend. There is nothing worse than seeing what some bozo you are trying to forget about is up to.

Smum99 · 29/04/2012 08:39

Well done, whatever he's up to, it isn't thinking about you..I would just stop communicating and you don't have to feel guilty, he hasn't bothered to have a grown up talk with you about what he wants in a relationship so it's not necessary.

NewMatic · 29/04/2012 14:56

Have you ever ever got a text on a Saturday ?
Bloody odd.
Either coke head or married.

NewMatic · 29/04/2012 14:57

Btw no car. Deal breaker

ImperialBlether · 29/04/2012 15:00

I would hate to be treated like this. You never know where you are with him.

Now, you've told him and us what you'd do if he did this again. He's done it again. Follow it through, now and forget him.

Is there a running club near you? You might meet someone nice there.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 29/04/2012 15:30

How do you have mutual friends when you've only been seeing him for four months?

MalloryKane · 29/04/2012 16:17

They introduced us mychild. We both knew them for ages but had never met ourselves.

Will just read other responses.

I have had a text on a Saturday but only a kiss or something like that. No dialogue.

You are right imperialblether it feels horrible Sad and has done every time he has done it. I tried not to invest so much in it and backed off as advised up thread but got sucked in by his usual mid week keeness!

Cokehead? Now there is something I didn't consider .

MalloryKane · 29/04/2012 17:39

JustFab · 29/04/2012 17:43

Could he be reading this thread?

MalloryKane · 29/04/2012 17:47

No, he doesn't know MN exists I shouldn't think. This is the standard time I usually get a text after the weekend, late afternoon, early evening on the Sunday. Arse.

You told him you would go silent. You know it's the sensible thing to do.

MalloryKane · 29/04/2012 18:17

I know Sad

Is he in the TA is he a special? Or dies he work for MI5! Or he has kids

Helltotheno · 29/04/2012 20:05

Don't drag it out hon, it's over. You're wasting valuable time out of your life in fruitless analysis; you can be sure he's not doing the same thing. Either retreat in silence or send a text saying 'it's not working out' and block his number.

SerendipitousHarlot · 29/04/2012 20:27

I'm sorry, I still maintain he's seeing someone else or he's married. It's always weekendsx Sorry mate.

MalloryKane · 29/04/2012 22:02

He's not married I know this 100%. I do think it is a case of "Mallory" will do till something better comes along and he uses his weekends to do this, hence the regular additions of women to FB (very rarely men!).

Whatever, it's done, i AM worth more but it really stings when someone you like doesn't agree.
