Hi I am venus and I am an alcoholic.

Thanks to the first thread by Jesuswhatnow I have not had a drink for a long time.

There are lots of us on here, please lurk, post, whatever does it for you. If you are worried about how much you drink and your inability to stop when you want to, then someone on here can probably understand.

OP posts:
RedMoomin · 19/11/2010 16:51

desire still here! Not for long though... Everything OK?

MIFLAW · 19/11/2010 16:53

Creamlegbar

I go to AA because I don't have a better idea.

Please suggest a better idea - ie one that works and that you yourself have seen to work in a large number of cases - for addressing the potentially fatal problem of alcoholism and I will follow your advice to the letter.

Till then, save it for the 6th form debating society where it can't harm anyone.

As I have said before about links like these, not only do these complaints invariably revolve around individuals or particular meetings (would you advise someone not to bring their children up as Catholics on the basis that a minority of priests are paedophiles, or would you suggest they tried a different congregation?) and they are even more invariably set in America, where AA in practical terms is very different to UK AA and, crucially, much more doctrinaire.

Every time I say this, and every time whoever has posted these links fails to address my points. They just disappear. Are you going to be different, Cream?

Mouseface · 19/11/2010 16:53

Bang out of order Cream!

Pack it in now please.

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 16:53

and I absolutely have to do my roots this weekend - I am beginning to resemble a skunk and it is sooooooooooo NOT a good look Grin

desiretochange · 19/11/2010 16:54

Yep, just wanted to say have a great weekend and ignore Creamlegbar, as Nicki on Big Bro said one time "Who is she, where did they find her"??

ChristianaCatesby · 19/11/2010 16:54

Oh yes washing washing washing... It never ends...

Reminds ms if that Joan rivers quote- 'i hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes, then six months later you have to do it all again!'

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 16:54

get in Milflaw - back of the net

RedMoomin · 19/11/2010 16:54

desiretochange · 19/11/2010 16:55

RedMoomin · 19/11/2010 16:55

RedMoomin · 19/11/2010 16:56

notevenamousie · 19/11/2010 16:56

Just hanging in here

No babysitter though so will put DD to bed in a bit.

CJCregg · 19/11/2010 16:58

MILFLAW??!!

Now that's a whole new perspective!

Mouseface · 19/11/2010 16:58

I am dying mine Red Black next time.

Not been red for ages and thought that it's clearly the in colour to be this winter Wink

Have a fab weekend lovely Red xx

How are you doing desire?

silver - can you do my washing for me. I so CBA!!!!

MIFLAW - brilliant post. Much more informed than my 'bog off' type! Grin

MIFLAW · 19/11/2010 16:58

"The therapists, judges, and parole officers (many of whom are themselves hidden members of A.A. or N.A.) continually send new people to A.A."

FACT - this does not happen in the UK. This is US based. And this is on the VERY FIRST PAGE.

Second link seems to be about the failings of a treatment centre rather than anything to do with AA - like blaming aspirin when the doctor prescribes it instead of steroids.

Irrelevant, inaccurate nonsense.

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 16:59

Well done Noteven - that is fantastic - we are all here for you babe Winkxxx

Mouseface · 19/11/2010 16:59

noteven

Thank you for posting that AA have helped you today.

Have you spoken to them since your first call?

Creamlegbar · 19/11/2010 17:01

Forthcoming book by Stanton Peele should address most points. People have a better chance of recovery if they do not believe (entirely without proof) that they have a disease.

www.huffingtonpost.com/stanton-peele/addiction-how-the-meaning_b_782586.html

Read the links.

I note that the folks on that site are determined not to merely make personally abusive comments to people who don't agree with them.

Read the links.

Mouseface · 19/11/2010 17:01

MIFLAW and Creamlegbar

Can we make sure that your conversations do not turn into a bun fight please?

This is NOT what the bus is for. Especially not today.

Take it elsewhere.

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 17:03

Creamwhatever "personally abusive comments" duur - what did you just say about Red - now f*k off and go somewhere where you are welcome because it certainly isn't here you sanctimonious t*t.

ChristianaCatesby · 19/11/2010 17:03

Love you red. Stay strong x

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 17:05

noteven - how are you feeling lovely - please try and ignore the crap going on - very unfortunate timing but none of it has anything to do with you. Try and relax a bit once DD in bed Smile xx

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 17:10

Mouse will come and collect it from you in the morning and return it washed, ironed and folded on Sunday - wish I could lovely Grin xxx

Silver66 · 19/11/2010 17:13

When we moved house and didn't have washing machine for a bit I took all ours for a service wash at the launderette - MY GOD - what luxury - the man had even sorted clothes into mine, DP's and DD's and into seperate bags....

Grin
Mouseface · 19/11/2010 17:16

I couldn't cope with no washing machine with the was Nemo is!

Especially as we have no relatives nearby!

Mind you, the chap next door is really nice and always offers the use of anything that breaks here!!
