Mouseface · 30/07/2010 23:47

Well, thanks to the refreshingly honest and inspirational JesusWhatNext - this is the third thread, for the battle to beat the booze for all of those who are on the path to do so.

Some are sober, some are trying to be and some are still drinking.

I'm Mouse, I'm new to this and I'm scared. So, come and join the journey.

See you later venus. Has your dh gone yet? How are you doing?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 05/08/2010 10:34

Oh god I can't bear it. I know it's just one job but I am so nervous now WHAT can I do to distract me

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 10:34

christi - I have everything crossed for you. Whatever is meant to be will be x

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 10:35

Erm, cleaning? A run? Some scary exercise DVD? Go for a bath? Read a book? Call a friend?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 05/08/2010 10:36

I know Mooomin. When I went to the first interview my friend and her daughter had just died. And I knew that in the context of everything something like a job was of minimal importance. I just need to hold on to that. In their memory too - I mean really, why worry?! But I'm just a worrier. I really need to work through this all.

algee · 05/08/2010 10:36

Christi! come and help me pack books...I was determined to be ruthless this morning, but have given up any pretence now! Hope call brings good news.

Hello everyone else! Youi all sound chipper, see you later. Box number 10 about to be taped up and filled!

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 10:39

Good morning algee! I am useless when I am packing books because I get distracted by them and start reading!

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 10:45

christi - I am really sorry to hear about your friend and her daughter. That is awful. The thing is that although you can rationally see that there are 'bigger' things to worry about it is still difficult to stop. (I hope that this makes sense!)

GlassInHand · 05/08/2010 10:57

Morning.

Well I have let myself down. I had two glasses of wine last night. I payed for it tenfold this morning though. Palpitations, headache, crap crap crap.

Day one .................... again.

algee · 05/08/2010 10:58

Hey glass...as the others said to me the other day, pick yourself up and start again! Feels crap though doesn't it!

GlassInHand · 05/08/2010 11:00

Utterly shite.

I am back in business now though.

Hi glass, don't worry about it. You're back and you want to get sober. Maybe you shouldn't worry so much about what 'day' you are on? Maybe just concentrate on having a sober day, one day at a time. (I know, I know I am always saying it too!) We're here for you glass.

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 11:03

Hi wasindie! Lovely to hear your update! Your MiL sounds a bit of a total nightmare challenge!

So glad that you are doing well - and well done on 6 hours kip! Hopefully you will be feeling a slight benefit! How's DP recovered?

MIFLAW · 05/08/2010 11:07

Glass

What made you drink?

As in, what made it seem like a good or reasonable idea?

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 11:22

Have you scared everyone off MIFLAW?!

Mouseface · 05/08/2010 11:31

Morning Babes - and that includes you MIFLAW.

Firstly, I'd like to clear something up.

CTS cannot love MIFLAW, because I do. I have for some time. I think I have replaced one addiction for another: the wonders of MIFLAW.

Glass - DAAAAAAAY 1 !!! You can start again. xx

CTS - Keep busy!!! Put some daytime tv on, dust (don't hoover so you can hear the phone) jog up the stairs a few times, count the blades of grass on your lawn, anything!! Just keep busy and good luck lovely!!

Trinity - Yay for daaaay 7!! You are doing so well!!

algee - Well done on day 3. You sound really positive about this now! You can do it, I can do it, we can all do it!!!

venus - Kids!!!!!!

Wasindie - The pearls of wisdom from a mother hey? Rise above it lovely. DS used to love being swung, just the same as being in the womb when you move around. Smile and take deep breaths!! Count to twenty ten!! Glad you got some sleep too.

Moomin - Yay for 6 weeks today!!!! Fab!! Go you!!

Hello everyone else. Hope you are all ok....

DS was up again last night so I'm pooped although DH actually got up too!!

Off to physio now so will pop back later to hear CTS's news!! Keep going Babes.

TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKING!!!!!!

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 11:38

Are you letting this MIFLAW love-in go to your head Mr M???!

Hiya mouse, you sound really up beat today, despite being tired as hell.

christi - any word???

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 11:39

mouse (again!) - That's great that your DH got up too! Has he cut back on his booze at the moment?

jesuswhatnext · 05/08/2010 11:43

wasindie - tell her she talks rubbish and it could be a sign of idiocy!

Mouseface · 05/08/2010 11:45

moomin - not last night, he'd been on the lash but yes, in general, he's doing great!! And is very supportive.

JWN - great advice for wasindie!!

no news yet, they haven't friggin decided. they loved the presentation though. Not sure if I would be 'autonomous' enough. DOn't know what to do now

MoominMags · 05/08/2010 11:57

Well there's definitely some good feedback there. I hate doing presentations! When are they getting back to you? (Do some of the things I suggested upthread if any appeal!)

GlassInHand · 05/08/2010 12:24

Miflaw

Well I was in a tissy after my appointment with my shrink, lots and lots was dragged up. And I caved into the pressure. Usually I delay going home for an hour or so, just to process and get my shit together but yesterday I had to fly home to the kids, who were killing each other yadda yadda. Excuses I know.

But I gave in.

I then poured the rest of the bottle down the sink.

MIFLAW · 05/08/2010 13:04

Fair enough.

Did the drink SOLVE that problem?

For example, did you actually forget it while you were drinking - or did you dwell on it and go over it in your head?

Did the drink somehow undo the conversation with the shrink?

Did the drink give you any bright ideas for solving the problem next time (i.e. not what you should have done but didn't, but what you WILL do next time you see him/her?

I'm going to make a bold guess that the answers are, respectively, no, no and no.

You had a drink. You were lucky - you didn't die (many nice people do get unlucky on this one, just crossing the road while under the influence, so don't be too complacent) and you didn't get locked up or sectioned. And you didn't break the law. And - again luckily, because you really can't tell with these things - you stopped after two rather than continuing for the rest of the day, week or year. So, in many respects, you got away with it.

But look at the other side - what did you actually get out of it?
