Mouseface · 30/07/2010 23:47

Well, thanks to the refreshingly honest and inspirational JesusWhatNext - this is the third thread, for the battle to beat the booze for all of those who are on the path to do so.

Some are sober, some are trying to be and some are still drinking.

I'm Mouse, I'm new to this and I'm scared. So, come and join the journey.

MIFLAW · 02/08/2010 15:37

Christiana

you are the first person to guess correctly - do you know me from one of my earlier (non-alkie) thread contributions?

Mouseface · 02/08/2010 15:38

CTS

Yes, that's MIFLAW.

Glad your cycle was good. You'll be grand tomorrow!!! They want to interview you for a reason! Positive thoughts!

I have lots of yummy non alcoholic drinks for later and DH has just declared he will be a beer free zone this evening!

A Gin, Vodka and Wine zone, but no beer!

christi - glad that you are feeling calmer.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 15:40

Hi mouse, how's your day been? How's your son?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 02/08/2010 15:41

No, I don't MIFLAW but I am just very clever he he he...

Obviously I WILL get the job hey?! Amazing what a bit of exercise does to my mood.

Thanks mouse and moomin

Mouseface · 02/08/2010 15:47

Moomin

Same shit, different day! Just cleared him up, again.

Ho hum!!

DD is out so hopefully no issues with bitchy girls today! Gawd, to be 11 again. NOT!

I'm a bit but I've got my night planned out. As soon as DS goes to bed, I'm off soon after with my book. I never read as much as I did 'cos I usually pass out pissed.

NOT TONIGHT!!!!!

I've treated myself to some new books. I'm looking forward to just relaxing with them and an hot choccy. YUM!!

How are you Moomin?

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 15:59

ToClearMyHead

You sound like me. I only started yesterday btw, so we are on a par, I am in awe of the others too.

My tipple is wine, love it. But every morning my first thought, before even getting out of bed is 'shit what happened last night? How did I get to bed?' Followed closely by ' no wine tonight' That usually lasts til about 4 when I start to justify why I 'deserve' wine. Kids, dh, job wrecking my head, or it has been such a good day, I think I will finish it off with a glass of wine, but it is never a glass.

I am on day 2, I am just trying to get past tonight and then onto tomorrow.

This morning the liberation of not worrying about last night was amazing.

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 16:00

OK today thanks mouse. Get lots of strength from posting and reading here. Am off to a meeting tonight so that will be good. I am very excited because I have some new books to pick up at the library! So I will also be doing some reading - no doubt with chocolate in hand.

Sounds like you have a nice evening planned - free from girly bitching! It must be a lot of work caring for your son. If you manage to crack this booze thing hopefully you will have loads more energy! I definitely have more energy these days - which is great!

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 16:04

mouse - I really hope that I didn't come across as dismissive or patronising about 'managing to crack this booze thing'?? Read it back and it sounded a bit weird!

MoominMags · 02/08/2010 16:06

glass - totally no need to be in awe. We are all trying to stay sober just one day at a time. (And that changes to one hour or one minute at a time when needed!)

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 16:06

Good on you Mouse, best of luck for later!

Toclearmyhead · 02/08/2010 16:06

Thank you GlassinHand - well done on achieving one night without. I have started reading the first thread (dd2 is still asleep so can't go out yet).

It is amazing - Jesus is so strong and so many things strike a chord. Also makes you think that it is possible to stop. (I know it is but it seems scary)

Also this that MIFLAW wrote is so true:

*A phrase one used to hear in AA is "watch the film through to the end" i.e. when you imagine yourself having a drink, don't stop the daydream there - watch yourself having the second. And the third. And opening the next bottle. And your husband coming home. And the shouting. And the tears. And your child waking up. And the atmosphere the morning after.

If you're like me, the "pleasure" of a glass of wine is not outweighed by the benefits - it is non-existent and illusory. If I were you, THAT's what I would be focussing on remembering*

Good luck tonight. Will carry on reading as it's a revelation to me that drinking as I do does mean there is a problem. Even though it is obvious to everyone else.

Mouseface · 02/08/2010 16:14

Not at all Moomin!

Have a good meeting. And enjoy your books.....

DS and I are off to clean the windows! Oh it's the high life here you know!

Toclear

Keep going. That thread is the reason I'm here. And reading what venus posted to Trinity on her thread.

Thank you JWN and venus.

Do you know what, this reminds me of when I was giving up the smokes. I was on 20 per day and yet really only enjoyed maybe 5 of them. The rest were pure habit and addiction.

Same with wine. I love my first two glasses, and if that was all that was in the bottle I would gladly stop, but I don't. I drain the bottle instead.

TrinityRhino · 02/08/2010 16:18

I've cut my arm and I'm sweating like a pig
I've just had to go out and pick dd1 up and the car was roasting which didn't help the weating like a pig issue
I've been cleaning and moving furniture
got a nice pile for the tip

I could murder a beer

MIFLAW · 02/08/2010 16:19

"Same with wine. I love my first two glasses, and if that was all that was in the bottle I would gladly stop, but I don't. I drain the bottle instead."

Why don't you buy the mini bottles then - the ones that contain only two glasses? Or a half-bottle of something really decent for the price of a full bottle of ordinary?

ChristianaTheSeventh · 02/08/2010 16:20

Glass I've noticed the same thing. The first cigarette was lovely. Everything after that horrible.

mouse I've started up a book club in the last year with some friends. It's really lovely to get together and chat, and really encourages you to keep reading, also you read p=books you might not normally have done.

I'm hosting it on Wednesday - will have to provide wine for my fellow book club people without drinking any myself! Or maybe I'll just ask them to bring some if they want it. What do you think?

MIFLAW · 02/08/2010 16:21

Trinity

Ask those around you if they would mind.

What have you got to lose?

TrinityRhino · 02/08/2010 16:23

my peace of mind
my dignity
my money
the respect of dd1
my belief in myself

TrinityRhino · 02/08/2010 16:23

thankyou

I'm going to get a squash with lemonade and a straw in it

MIFLAW · 02/08/2010 16:25

Well there you go.

It's not always easy.

But it's always simple.

Well done you for beating another one.

TrinityRhino · 02/08/2010 16:26

you are quite amazing miflaw

this fizzy squash is going down nicely

very refreshing and no hangover to come

MIFLAW · 02/08/2010 16:28

I think I would have hated me when I was first getting sober.

Luckily I had people just like me that I could hate instead.

GlassInHand · 02/08/2010 16:29

You and I both know why I don't Miflaw, cos I have a problem with it and I can't control it.

Fuck me, did I just say that .........
