Well, here we go ladies (and MIFLAW)! The new thread to follow on from JWN's 'me and alcohol have ruined my family'. I hope no one minds that I decided to go with 'brave'? I just think that it describes us!

As a quick recap, I am 33 and on day 22 of sobriety (on this occasion!)

MM

Struggling not to think about 6pm. I can give you some 'reasons' if you like. Or 'excuses'. Or pathetic drivel about what a hard day today is, builders, DS is very sickly, I'm in a lot of pain, more tests pending for DS blah, blah, blah.

It's our wedding anniversay tomorrow. I'm dreading our nice dinner we have planned.

cat - Well done for not buying that bottle. Seriously!

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 15:24

Sorry it's a struggle at the moment mouse. At this very moment do NOT think about 6 o'clock. Just concentrate on what you are doing right now, live in the moment. Worry about 6 when it comes. And when it does come just try to get past it minute by minute, keep putting it back and putting it back.

I am sorry that I cannot give any more help than that - am thinking of you. I know how hard it is to break the habit. But you can do it. (Am sending you positive thoughts! )

oi oi, you taking the piss? Ok so I called wrinkly, a grown woman a banana...

Lovely song venus; maybe radiohaed would record it?

Moomin, haven't 'spoken' to you yet today. Hello. Please don't ask.Need to think about it before I say anything...

Overload of newe names, I will read, digest, and return.

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 15:25

Sorry forgot to say - don't worry about the meal tomorrow at the moment either. Minute by minute...

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 15:26

Looking forward to your update algee - in your own good time of course!

it could have been me 7 days ago

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 15:33

Yes, I know exactly what you mean trinity! That could have been me too - who was I trying to kid by buying 'normal' items at the same time, ha ha??!

It's signing off time for me now. I thank you all for your company today. Each and every one of you give me strength and support. I hope that you all have lovely evenings. I look forward to catching up tomorrow.

What's up cat? What are you doing right now? Talk to me...

OP posts:
catinboots · 28/07/2010 16:25

researching info for job interview next week. Sitting at the computer with a cup of tea is just not the same. Resisting urge to nip to shop. It's going to be a long evening

venusandmars · 28/07/2010 16:26

Hi cat,

Just keep posting. Where are you just now? Are you at home? Is there anyone else around?

catinboots · 28/07/2010 16:28

at home, DS2 asleep upstairs. He's fabulous. Don't want his babyhood to be a haze for me

venusandmars · 28/07/2010 16:28

Just keep resisting that urge for the next 5 minutes. Tell us about the job you have an interview for. Perhaps we could help with your research.

catinboots · 28/07/2010 16:29

post as a personal tutor at local FE college. Been in education in one way or another all my life. Very excited abouted possibility of returning to work in september!

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 16:30

Keep talking to us cat. Like venus said, tell us more about the job...

OP posts:
MoominMags · 28/07/2010 16:32

That sounds really good cat! Is this a first interview? Will it be one-to-one or panel? No idea how these things work!!

OP posts:
catinboots · 28/07/2010 16:32

reading up on "the evry child matters" policy. Is actually very interesting _ i'm just a bit out of touch. Actually quite looking forward to the interview.

Feeling a bit better already. Is day 1 always the hardest???

venusandmars · 28/07/2010 16:32

Have you been not at work for a while? What do you really fancy about this job?

Funny coincidence, I think christi posted that she has an interview next week as well.

catinboots · 28/07/2010 16:34

not worked for nearly a year now - but last job was not in education. So about 4 years out of touch!!

mmm tea! x

TrinityRhino · 28/07/2010 16:36

hi all
struggling today
feel like its not fair I cant have drink
which is bollocks ecause I'm only thinking that cause I want one

been working hard today in the house
kids have been hard work
feel like I deserve it
but I'm imagining it as something thats nice

its not and it only makes me woorse

if I could ust have A glass of wine that would be okay but I cant

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 16:38

Keep going with that tea! Have you got a Kit-Kat or similar to go with it?!

Day 1 is pretty damn hard. Be prepared not to sleep too well tonight - it's perfectly normal. You may also feel totally crap in the morning for a few days. Again, perfectly normal and it will get better. Well done for posting in stead of popping out to the shop.

OP posts:
venusandmars · 28/07/2010 16:39

Ooh yes, "Every Child Matters" has some interesting concepts, Are you a tutor in childcare / child development / social care? (running out of guesses here).

The first day is tough, that is because you are trying to change an established pattern, something that has become an automitic reaction. Have you ever tried to brush your teeth holding your toothbrush in the other hand? Toothbrushing is not addictive, but just trying to change that pattern is incredibly difficult. My friend broke her right arm and had to brush her teeth with her left hand. She found it so frustrating that she would be in tears most nights.

You are embarking on a big change here cat. Just take it moment by moment.

MoominMags · 28/07/2010 16:39

Totally understand trinity. You are doing really well though. Give youeself a pat on the back. Be pleased!

Keep posting!
