Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

Susan is the same age as me so late boomer (I hate that term).

What's MJN Air and Herc?

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 30/09/2026 19:55

@ExOptimist , the original Amber called Emma a boomer.
I hate the term. It was baby boomer until it became a term to slag people off.

Shock The Robin Fairbrother actor was the Herc actor in Cabin Pressure. MJN Air is the sit in the sit-com.

It's brilliant!

I used to enjoy Cabin Pressure.

Two thoughts about today's episode.

  1. Elizabeth took it better than I thought she would.
  2. Lily said "would of". I rewound it. Definitely. Bleurghhh.

I agree on both points. Lily definitely said 'would of' 🤬.

WitcheryDivine · 30/09/2026 22:20

I’ve been trying to puzzle this out. Was that Freddie calling Rosie his favourite niece? How is she his niece?? I thought he and Pip were cousins so she’d be his first cousin once removed (or I’d accept “little cousin” or similar) but is she somehow his niece? Ambridge is a strange place.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 30/09/2026 22:32

Elizabeth took it better than I thought she would.
Elizabeth wouldn't dare upset Lily.

LaMarschallin · 30/09/2026 23:16

A definite "would of" from Lily and a "mischeevious" from Pip.

polyhymnia · 01/10/2026 00:00

On ‘ different’ names, no these aren’t very new. I have DGC aged 6 to 12 and all have had Rivers, Wolves, Bears, etc in their classes at school, some of which were private, some state.

AgentKim · 01/10/2026 05:52

Dosnt anyone shut their front door (not the joke), in TA, it seems anyone can walk in your home any time of day or night, just so people can be caught out and "let the cat out of the bag," ( Jolene would like that nautical term), so to speak.

BeatriceBatchelor · 01/10/2026 06:36

Lily said "would of". I rewound it. Definitely. Bleurghhh.

I rewound it too! No way Lily would of said that.

JoelenesParrot · 01/10/2026 07:23

Did Pip really say we want the wedding to be ‘classy’. What is this faux sophistication that she and Stella hanker after? Stella has been presented as having no pretensions and Pip as a down-to-earth country lass. Suddenly they want a sophisticated/classy celebration. It just doesn’t ring true- Emma might say that and want a fairytale day of that kind but the heiress of Brookfield doesn’t need to try to be classy, she is actually Ambridge royalty.

TottersBlankly · 01/10/2026 07:25

It’s very hard to understand why the actress playing Lily wouldn’t have pointed that out, or just corrected it while recording.

And I agree - a Brookfield heiress would never aspire to anything as downmarket and artificial as is conveyed by the word ‘classy’.

Dreadful writing by someone who doesn’t understand the characters or class structure of Ambridge.

Hercisback · 01/10/2026 07:33

Just checking in on the new thread ready for a catch up.

Hope things are settling @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g 💐

JoelenesParrot · 01/10/2026 07:51

@TottersBlanklyIt’s even more surprising given Lily’s actress is being feted as an amazing writer elsewhere on R4. She has written a drama that was aired yesterday I think - and she even played one of the parts. So not to have noted such a large grammatical clanger is astonishing….

TottersBlankly · 01/10/2026 08:32

Ah .. Was it any good, @JoelenesParrot? I’ve rather given up on the afternoon drama and now don’t bother to check the schedule, or listen even if I know the writer from other things.

But Lizzy is her aunt. They would be easy with each other.

I don’t think Pip is exactly royalty. There is value in the land but many people to support. I wouldn’t have thought they are on massive incomes.

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/10/2026 08:48

Royalty doesn’t mean wealthy in terms of ready cash.

TottersBlankly · 01/10/2026 08:56

Pip is the exact point of The Archers. Unfortunately. The heir to the very centre of the show.

It’s a terrible shame some of the writers haven’t understood this and have neglected to ensure Brookfield remains the fulcrum of social and business life in Ambridge.

Darker · 01/10/2026 08:59

I think it makes them Establishment rather than Royalty.

I noticed Lily saying that. Very disappointing.

DeanElderberry · 01/10/2026 09:51

it was mischeeeeeevous that did it for me. Bring whatshisname back from Patagonia and drive a forage harvester over Pip and Rosie (and Stella if it's after the wedding).

TherapistInATabard · 01/10/2026 10:01

My dull prediction - Pip and Stella’s wedding will end up being fun and informal with kids running around and playing giant dominoes and they’ll look back and say it was the best wedding ever, and who needs sophisticated anyway.

Darker · 01/10/2026 10:05

@TherapistInATabard . I agree.
I also predict Jill’s health will be in noticeable decline and she’ll have a moment with her descendants…

Is Josh going to be there?
