Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

@AgentKim , Doors in soaps are only ever locked for a reason. Eg, locking yourself in the bathroom or if you're elderly and are about to have a fall.

@BeatriceBatchelor ,it could of been the SW being mischeevious.

I'm all for the dedding of Pip and Fat Rosie. She's boring and unlikeable.
Helen, by contrast, is not likeable in the slightest but she's a brilliant character and superbly acted.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 01/10/2026 14:51

The BBC does seem to have favourites and then they seem to pop up everywhere. There's usually a type, or a set of types.
I suspect that the person mentioned might fit into the pretty youngish not a complete airhead blonde type.

How much would it matter if Brookfield was sold to a completely new family of farmers in terms of current SLs, other than them being connected to most of the characters.

We could all complain to the BBC about the enunciation in TA.
Maybe the SW wanted to portray that a privileged upbringing and private education was no guarantee of good grammar.

I ❤Freddie.

Urgh! I need ear bleach after that could of.

If we do all complain, can we compare the replies. Pretty much every complaint I've made gets a 'well no one else has complained' style reply.

Archie? Bit of a wink to the fourth wall.
Or perhaps Amber should ask her followers what she should call Grundy McGrundyface.

Edited

I knew it!

Linda shouldn't walk into a milking parlour like that. I was stunned by her entitlement. If she wants to discuss her plan she should make a proper appointment.

BeatriceBatchelor · 01/10/2026 22:47

Dear god will they ever stop going on about those wretched sheep? Yes, we know it was awful!

I’ve been trying to puzzle this out. Was that Freddie calling Rosie his favourite niece? How is she his niece?? I thought he and Pip were cousins so she’d be his first cousin once removed (or I’d accept “little cousin” or similar) but is she somehow his niece? Ambridge is a strange place.

Shula once addressed Lilian as "auntie Lilian". They're first cousins.

TripleSulko · Yesterday 03:45

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/09/2026 13:44

Every so often I have a quick run-through to work out who in Ambridge is not in some way connected to an Archer. It's usually a small pool, and often there is a marriage or partnering that brings in the outliers, though we may be safe from Mick and Joy marrying in... Lynda and Robert of course are the grandparents of Mungo, and Lilian is also his grandparent. Rex and Toby were only related insofar as their long-dead aunt was married to Phil for a year or so back in the fifties, but then Toby sired an Archer baby and Rex, as Rosie's uncle, became Archer-adjacent. Sid, and Kathy and Jamie, and Jolene were not, but then Kenton moved in with Kathy, Sid died, and his widow Jolene married Kenton (and now Kathy and Jamie are both gone anyway). The Grundys are all tainted by William having sired Phoebe and Emma being the sister of someone with an Aldridge husband; Aldridges count as Archers. And so on.

I think at the moment Alan and Usha, Joy, and Mick are not Archer related in some way. Carol is dead and no longer counts, and I think Anna doesn't live in Ambridge ? (Yet?) And we have the recently-invented Esme. Any more?

George's son is an Archer twice over: via Martha and via Phoebe.

Someone needs to create an app where you can enter two Archers characters names and it tells you how they’re related 😀

For once, Pip sounded quite empathetic with another human being. She listened to Linda and made an intelligent summary of the issues from each side.

I suppose David and Ruth will now come down strongly against the dog field idea.

TottersBlankly · Yesterday 10:35

But you know the writers like to be contrary and turn any disagreement on its head. Invariably if today A takes position Y, and B takes position Z - tomorrow they will each be arguing the reverse.

So I won’t be surprised if Ruth and David call for a parish meeting and a loud protest all through the night in favour of the wretched dog field (which I’m already sick of hearing about).

Gonners · Yesterday 17:41

If the dog-field comes to pass, Markie and his mates will be able to bring their dogs there for walkies.

I misread this as pariah meeting - which sounds about right the way Brian was going on

Geronimode · Yesterday 18:17

I don’t think it’s strange to call family by traditional age related titles titles over factual ones - although if my own family my kids call my cousins their cousins and my aunts and uncle auntie xxx and uncle xxx. They also call some of my friends auntie and uncle too.

I just love Freddie to bits and was happy to
be afforded a lovely day dream of him and Chelsea having the most awesome future doing amazing events wmaking dreams come to true at LL once pesky Lizzy is out of the way. Chelsea can do spas and make overs, Freddie’s bringing the tunes and the whopping location! They could breathe a bit of new life into the place (more so than Fallon!)

Geronimode · Yesterday 18:19

To be clear I was envisioning Chelsea swooping in and helping Freddie titivate the pony. Not that I agree with it - but can get over it in this instance.

TottersBlankly · Yesterday 18:39

They could breathe a bit of new life into the place …

Gosh, I remember when it was Nigel and Elizabeth doing exactly that …

muddyford · Yesterday 20:14

How old is Vince? I thought he'd be 70 but sure they said 60!

MorningCoffeePlease · Yesterday 20:16

Why did Ian not spell out why Adam is so upset (i.e. Brian stating baldly that Adam is not his son) instead of talking all around the houses? (This sort of thing often happens in general, in the dialogue).
Harrison and Lily are rather sweet although haters of the former (and/or latter) will doubtless not agree.

JoelenesParrot · Yesterday 20:25

I’m quite looking forward to the party but worried Vince’s ghastly mother and daughters will be there. They would have to be if it’s really his birthday party but for our sakes I hope it’s like the ball at Netherfield and we only need to be exposed to our familiars.

FullOfLemons · Yesterday 20:31

Oh, me too.

I am really hoping Jolene and Lily have a massive fight on Sunday.

Would love Lily to quote some Pat Butcher lines.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · Yesterday 20:57

Harrison and Lily are rather sweet although haters of the former (and/or latter) will doubtless not agree. - They're ghastly. She's suffocating and he's on the rebound and thinking with his dick.

BeardieWeirdie · Yesterday 23:09

I thought it was interesting how put out Harrison was when Ed said he’d move on and vehemently denied that he had. I bet Lily wouldn’t have been too impressed.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · Yesterday 23:45

Apologies for my blunt language earlier but Lily threw herself at him.
Ed was fairly tactful - for Ed. Harrison's reaction was meant to be noticed.

Harrison and Fallon are now housemates, so what will she do? Conrad's been mentioned...

AgentKim · Today 06:34

If I was Ian I would have given Brian what for.
He is not Zanders Grandad and not related to their little family at all which he has pointed out very clearly.
Ian is also Zanders dad so he should tell Brian to Fox Trot Oscar. He is Adam's Husband and stick up for him all the time in this situation. I would be really hurt if my DH was going through this, and I would come out all guns blazing especially if Brain had come to my place of work, shouting the odds.
Don't think Harrison and Lily will last.

  1. He still loves Fallon.
  2. There is too many people poking their noses in.
  3. I think they are trying too hard to get accepted, even though Lily likes to think she dosnt care what anyone thinks.
WitcheryDivine · Today 07:23

Gosh I’m also SO fed up with this dog field idea. From the very premise that Robert and Lynda haven’t paid off their mortgage after centuries in Ambridge (and moving from London) to the obvious tactlessness of it coming from The People Who Brought You The Sheep Worrier, to the fact that it’s just so bloody boring.

Highlight of the week for me was Ed gently and perfectly agreeing that Harrison had moved on a bit quickly and H then being absolutely outraged. Classic.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · Today 07:28

Sorry as I think I’m dragging the conversation back a bit, but was there actually any bit of gordongrundys birth which was concerning. I get birth is traumatic but I don’t even remember any indication it was anything f but pretty straightforward. Amber keeps harping back to some sort of of delusion that she or the baby nearly died. Maybe I slept through that bit.

Darker · Today 07:37

I think Amber was just surprised by the reality of the birth. She feels she failed herself by not having a lovely water birth.

She aspires to a photogenic, instagrammable life, funded by her sponsors.
