Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

In Scotland, Milngavie (Mulguy), Findochty (Finechty). Mousehole in Cornwall (Mouzel). Someone beat me to my favourite though (Slaithwaite in Yorkshire. A lovely wee town).

As for TA - both Chris and Kirsty seemed jealous taken aback.

Tangents related to something going on in TA absolutely welcomed. Sometimes it's interesting, sometimes I scroll on. But this spelling debate has rumbled on for almost this entire thread. There are a few posts about the storyline, then it's back to the debate again and tbh I find it a bit inconsiderate to keep it going so long when it's not even TA related anymore. All very well to say scroll on if not interested but this derailment has spanned nearly three weeks!

FWIW I'm quite enjoying TA at the moment. It's ticking along. Bits and bobs are happening and the characters that I find the most irritating and badly written haven't featured much lately so I've probably jinxed that now! 🙈

MorningCoffeePlease · 10/03/2026 18:19

is that J-inxed by any chance?

TheUsualChaos · 10/03/2026 18:46

Definitely one of the top three!😆

JoelenesParrot · 10/03/2026 19:06

Delving into different languages, pronunciations and spellings is a vast topic creating a lot of, um, "lively debate" and interest, might be worthy of its own thread on Mumsnet? It's only really tangentially related to The Archers.

I’ll say! It’s definitely worthy of a separate thread - if possible, miles away from this one…

Emma was married to Will so it would have been assumed Will was George's father.

Yes, oops, I got my Ambridge history totally scrambled….

Could David sound any happier that Josh is leaving? “Let’s thrown him a huge party”.

So insensitive - it's like they want to celebrate him leaving! Ruth does my head in.

WitcheryDivine · 10/03/2026 19:23

Gosh sorry I wasn’t making a point about the other discussions - I frequent miss loads of posts these days anyway with a toddler and working all hours. I don’t really mind the diversions - but I agree that it’s nice if we can get back to the programme too.

I also found it funny how Kate was saying Brian was so lucky to live near his children, when she’s always made every effort to flee from hers.

Madcats · 10/03/2026 19:24

Since we are somehow doomed to be on a diversion from Ambridge for this thread, I will simply pop on to mourn the loss of half of Happisburgh. In the 70’s we used to borrow a cottage just down the road, clambering over the sea defences to the sea or sheltering behind them on windy days.

I do hope we are done with the plugs for us to watch BBC TV. I suppose that the Editor is hoping that all these new listeners will be tempted to stop watching Netflix and Youtube and buy a TV licence.

TheUsualChaos · 10/03/2026 19:26

I had assumed Blue Lights was made up since it's so rare that the characters refer to anything in the real world so the plug was entirely lost on me!

OrphanBlankly · 10/03/2026 19:29

Oh that’s brilliant, @TheUsualChaos!

😂

LillianGish · 10/03/2026 19:57

Can I just add I am LOVING Blue Lights and have already binged the first three episodes (in the manner of Kirsty and Kate!) - so glad it came up and thanks to everyone on here who confirmed how good it is!

Who was the genius who prophesied George would get done for public urination? Or was that not on this thread?

I must admit I envisaged that scene on a quiet country lane not on the Green. Eeww!

TheUsualChaos · 10/03/2026 20:04

Yes I thought they were walking along a lane too, then it seemed odd bumping into Rex. But I didn't think even George would pee in the middle of the village! I wonder who reported it. It's like who bottled George all over again!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/03/2026 20:05

Yes, he is a shameless little cuss, isn't he. And 6 The Green, where he lives, must be only about a hundred yards from the bus-stop in the middle of the village. Is he really that incontinent?

Eastie77Returns · 10/03/2026 20:05

MorningCoffeePlease · 10/03/2026 19:23

They both just sound so relieved that he is off. If Pip was leaving David would be absolutely distraught. Ghastly, the pair of them. I’m glad Josh refused the leaving party. I hope he just slips away without saying goodbye although it would probably be days before they realised he’d left.

Madlentileater · 10/03/2026 20:43

George was ill tempered tonight, the mask is slipping
his probation officer should have pointed out that feeling so resentful at not drinking for a month suggests he does have a problem

I think it's just the mentality of someone who couldn't wait to be old enough to drink alcohol. He has watched all his family drink alcohol throughout his life he sees it as a right. I think Amber was good telling him it will be fine and to join her.
Did Amber dound like Hermione Granger tonight or was it just my ears?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/03/2026 20:50

It seems to be the case that if George can't have what he wants his reaction is to be unpleasant, even to the woman he says he loves and who is carrying the baby they are having together.

Still, it was Amber's own choice to be with him, nobody made her do it. If he resorts to thumping her in his frustration with the world not revolving round him, I hope she feels able to leave immediately and this time stay gone. Third time lucky!

I don't think I know that one.

It's in north Devon and pronounced Woolsery. The road signs in the vicinity have both!
