Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

Hmm - well, he’s currently working essentially as an apprentice Home Farm manager, undertaking training at Berrow Farm. It certainly isn’t part of his contract that he should live with the person providing the apprenticeship. And I don’t think it’s unreasonable that someone in their mid-twenties would want to live separately to their parent. It’s entirely open to Brian to subtract the rental of the cottage from Ruairi’s pay.

Anyway, once Paul returns I’m sure he’ll be invited to move in, so they could share the rent.

If Josh goes travelling there will be a spare room at The Stables.

Helen could rent Bloody Hell Cottage Smile

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 14:10

Listening to the repeat. Do people of George and Amber’s age really make midweek evening meals involving simple ‘peas and carrots’? I’m three times their age and unless to accompany a Sunday roast I’d think that sort of cooking quite old fashioned. (But I am pescatarian so the meat and two veg type of meal isn’t really on my radar much now.)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/03/2026 14:12

I can't see why they shouldn't. Perfectly good, quick, nutritious accompaniment to something like a shepherd's pie. Does age come into this?

FatRosie · 05/03/2026 14:27

What do you eat, @OrphanBlankly ?

Don't you eat veg with or in everything?

YisRexposherthanfreddie · 05/03/2026 14:32

Amber’s scan will reveal that she’s much further along than she’s told everybody. That and twins.

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 14:42

I do, @FatRosie! I’m probably single handedly keeping Riverford in profit. But I tend to make one pot bean / lentil / chickpea / dhal sort of meals. Or bowls with uncountable vegetables and other stuff all together.

What I meant was that plain peas and carrots sounded more like a Clarrie style of cooking and not at all Influencer-y. It’s completely not the type of meal Amber would ever post, or even see, on instagram.

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 14:43

Definitely twins!

I thought it was absolutely astonishing how quickly the farm auditor had completed the audit, presumably written a report and Helen had read it.

Copilot!!

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 14:43

Definitely twins!

Avert!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/03/2026 14:53

The world of influencers is a closed book to me, but I assume there's a huge mismatch between what they do and say on screen and their real lives.

OP posts:
MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/03/2026 14:58

I know nothing about influencers, but we never cook food with separate veg on the side either - we do eat a lot of veg but they are mostly integrated into a whole meal rather than separate standalone items. However, we are now sharing a lot of meals with my elderly dad, and he still favours the traditional approach. It has been quite a shock to the system tbh - I can't say that I particularly enjoy eating veg just by themselves.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2026 15:04

I don't think there is anything to prevent you from mixing cooked-alone veg with other things (or each other) on your plate: you don't have to eat each one on its own. And it does help those who (for instance) are allergic to something or very much dislike it, if they can simply not take any of whatever it is from that saucepan, rather than trying to pick out the individual peas from a pie, or avoid the taste of celery in a casserole.

Madcats · 05/03/2026 15:08

I'm still trying to recover from hearing Celia describe Helen as having "drive dynamism, knowledge and experience..."

And don't get me started on this daft audit

Bruisername · 05/03/2026 15:48

If Helen takes the job it’s going to come as a shock when she has to actually do everything

FatRosie · 05/03/2026 15:51

@OrphanBlankly , I too just put the veg in whatever I'm cooking. My meals are usually veg with something in it not the other way round.
I'm a vegetarian and don't see the point of boiling things separately. I put them in at different stages.

Nos4r2 · 05/03/2026 05:34

I hate the George and Amber story line. I had a scan and there was no heart beat and it was awful and I don't need reminding about that.

I had this also, although with hindsight II had had some warning in the shape of random spotting. . In a way I was quite glad that they showed that an MMC is a possibility - it seemed to be something to which people generally closed their eyes at the time. Certainly it had never been mentioned to me until the day it actually happened.

I'm sure Brine isn't making Ruairi live with him, he was simply aware that that seems to be what Ruairi expects.

I hope he will make Ruairi cover the rent, but there was no mention of it - and I suspect it would leave R with a minus income.

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 16:58

I actually quite like the idea of Ruairi moving into The Stables in Josh’s place, as someone suggested above.

Is Lily back yet? She may or may not be thrilled at the prospect of living with a couple. (All the LL clan have been so neglected recently.)

OrphanBlankly · 05/03/2026 19:14

Isn’t it a bit soon for Helen to look all glowy?

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/03/2026 19:14

Helen's all glowy! Oh dear. 😬

muddyford · 05/03/2026 19:44

I didn't notice that till you two pointed it out!

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/03/2026 19:47

Not that I was at any point in my pregnancy glowy. I was bent over retching most of the time.

Agapornis · 05/03/2026 20:46

For those avoiding tonight's episode for MMC reasons, baby Amborge is fine.

Last night was a missed opportunity to sneakily refer to it as the full Monty (@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g next thread title idea perhaps?) - not that I want to think about any of the Bridge Farm Archers stripping off.

Madlentileater · 05/03/2026 20:55

Its going to be the best baby ever!
