Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

😄 I admit I do tend to assume everyone (here, at least) has a similar hinterland and mental landscape to me!

FatRosie · 04/03/2026 14:30

@LightningMode , do you never listen to The Food Programme or Farming Today?

Pub that inspired historic BBC show (TW: image + it's a Daily Empress article)

FatRosie · 04/03/2026 16:05

@LightningMode , here's another previously famous cheesemaker.
Sean Wilson (actor) - Wikipedia

Cantsleepdontsleep · 04/03/2026 16:12

I guess they can’t all make wine (or whisky…)!

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/03/2026 16:33

@FatRosie Ooh I know him.

FatRosie · 04/03/2026 16:40

@ExitPursuedByABare , the actor-turned-cheesemaker? Wow! What is he like?

Bruisername · 04/03/2026 18:54

So I don’t like this whole parallel storyline of a parent protecting their child - I suppose Brian would argue no one else is being prosecuted falsely but it’s just a bit yuck and the whole idea of he who can not be spelled doing it is just bizarre

and Helen, she is a business owner not an employee and they are making out she’s being poached by one employer from another. Thoroughly bizarre

the sw are idiots tbh - they can’t seem to get the basics right

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/03/2026 19:52

George had a right bloody cheek saying Brian didn't care about the innocent who was being accused of clonking George: it was George who put the police onto that innocent in the first place. Brian had nothing to do with George's insistence that the person who hit him must have been one of Markie's gang, as far as we (or George and Brian) know.

Did anyone else think that the fourth of the month is very soon to get the results of an audit that was done on the second of that month?

RegimentalSturgeon · 04/03/2026 20:06

Had I listened, I would certainly have thought that time had been telescoped somewhat, Asking.

JanglyBeads · 04/03/2026 20:23

Last night's was altogether weird - Miranda AKA the dragon has suddenly gone all touchy feeley; as the PP above why would anyone think Helen would leave her prize winning cheese business based in all senses on her family farm to manage the business run by rock star brother of her competitor?? (And then there was a third thing that didn't make sense, or maybe that was the day before, but I can't remember what it was, sorry!)

I thought it was absolutely astonishing how quickly the farm auditor had completed the audit, presumably written a report and Helen had read it.

Choccyp1g · 04/03/2026 20:33

Audit! Audit my arse! That's not an audit, it is basic management accounts that they should be looking at every quarter at least.

Agreed. It's just so tiresome that the scriptwriters don't understand anything about farming account reports, or narrow boats, or running a pub on Christmas Day, or country fairs, or - well - anything, much, that doesn't happen outside of Islington.

ETA: Also about not employing a plumber to do multiple stuff on a farm 🙄

JudyCoolibar · 05/03/2026 00:02

I didn't understand why they were comparing figures to what they were 5 years ago, given that in early 2021 we were only in the early stages of coming out of covid so it's hardly comparable

Mumblechum0 · 05/03/2026 00:09

I’m warming to the Amber and George storyline.

Nos4r2 · 05/03/2026 05:34

I hate the George and Amber story line. I had a scan and there was no heart beat and it was awful and I don't need reminding about that.

I’ve never run my own business. But I rather imagine that knowing which of your lines makes money is somewhat fundamental! Seemed a ridiculous conversation to me.

WitcheryDivine · 05/03/2026 07:58

I’m so sorry, me too @Nos4r2 💐

Think I’ll wait to listen to tonight’s until someone has told us what happened on here.

Bruisername · 05/03/2026 08:04

I think there are some SL that can’t be used for entertainment/create drama tbh - child death and pregnancy loss being two of them. I felt fallons pregnancy loss was crass of them and the end of the DV sl aswelll. And Nics death come to think of it. Claiming they are doing a public interest sl doesn’t absolve them of having to actually treat it seriously and not over dramatise

JoelenesParrot · 05/03/2026 08:06

Helen was channelling Gnasher last night with her businesswoman-of-the-year approach to farming. She’ll be wearing kitten heels and clicking around the dairy tonight…Her night with Mr Bonner and the job offer seem to have turned her head.

Bruisername · 05/03/2026 08:08

I thought Helen thought her cheese was her third child. I’m confused about this whole SL tbh.

Darker · 05/03/2026 08:37

Maybe a Helen/Tony/Tom fallout will get Helen to take her Montbeliers north.

JudyCoolibar · 05/03/2026 09:25

Ruairi is still seriously entitled, isn't he? He just took it for granted that Brine would continue to shell out totally unnecessary rent just so that he could avoid moving into the luxury accommodation that is available for him. Brine should tell him he'll have to find lodgings or a flat share.

oh god yes, it is almost as though their accountant has never heard of monthly, quarterly and yearly accounts? and they must at least know how it was the year before last since presumably they have "done their taxes" in 2025?

I have to skip over these things because they drive me mad. It is merely a (very clumsy, badly written/researched) way of pushing Pat'n'Tony out of the farm.... maybe sheep would be more profitable? or the Anguses can go to the land of their ancestors and live out their lives on a sheep croft....

so sorry to hear that - the problem with having a miscarriage (of any kind) is that it does crop up where you are least expecting it, in books, in magazines, podcasts etc.

Mine was more than 20 years ago now, but it still hurts. (although not a MMC)
