Spoilers thread for The Archers on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible. Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter tweets!

Wasn't it because all the family were fussing over her older half-sibling-half-cousin?

I've no idea what's going on with the BBC website. They have all the teasers above and the cast list to 10th April. Then it's Contemporary drama in a rural setting until suddenly up pops the teaser for Friday 24th April and the cast list for that week.

My computer seems to have persuaded the BBC to disgorge the cast list for

Director, Pip Swallow and Rosemary Watts
Editor, Jeremy Howe

Brian Aldridge … Charles Collingwood
Pip Archer … Daisy Badger
Ruth Archer … Felicity Finch
Lilian Bellamy … Sunny Ormonde
Alice Carter … Hollie Chapman
Chris Carter … Wilf Scolding
Rex Fairbrother ... Nick Barber
Chelsea Horrobin … Madeleine Leslay
Bert Horrobin… David Sterne
Tracy Horrobin … Susie Riddell
Adam Macy … Andrew Wincott
Azra Malik … Yasmin Wilde
Kirsty Miller …. Annabelle Dowler
Stella Pryor … Lucy Speed
Fallon Rogers …. Joanna Van Kampen
Lottie Summers … Bonnie Baddoo
Ms Shah … Sudha Bhuchar

I think Bert Horrobin hasn't spoken since 2012, and then he was played by Martyn Read, who died in 2022.

FatRosie · 02/04/2026 17:41

About Ms Shah:

"She starred in EastEnders, as Meena McKenzie, Gita Kapoor’s sister and had a storyline affair with her brother-in-law, Sanjay, during her time on-screen, between 1993 and 1996. She appeared in Coronation Street, as Sonia Rahman, in 2016 and was the original Usha Gupta in BBC Radio Four soap, The Archers."

Grin All very odd.

ETA because I can't read and thought the BBC had put Bert Fry in the cast list.

David Sterne played Larry Bishop the landowner in the first series of The Detectorists. He's about 80, it would seem.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/04/2026 18:25

I think we have heard of Bert Horrobin still being alive during the past year or so, just not heard him speak.

It's remarkable how memorable almost all the characters from The Detectorists are.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/04/2026 19:10

Wonderful, wonderful series.

Gonners · 02/04/2026 20:17

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g ... Absolutely brilliant, and it bears rewatching on iPlayer. Then, when you get to the end, you can rewatch it all over again.

To stay off-topic, I'd also encourage anyone who enjoyed it to watch Small Prophets which stars Pearce Quigley (the rather bolshie detectorist with a beard) and also Michael Palin (and Mackenzie Crook, in a small role). It is very, very mad.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/04/2026 20:36

Yes, we loved that too.

I am a bit concerned about the absence of Angus Imrie (he is a very private individual) but 3 writers last week seems to indicate some last minute rewriting.
My favourite line last night was that David and Ruth had volunteered Pip to do some gardening as part of the promises.

I think I can reassure you there. We were out for a walk earlier in another part of SE London, and I saw a runner I am moderately sure was Angus Imrie. A quick Google tells me he does live in that area, or did as of last autumn. My runner looked in good shape.

Does Mr Gasp know that you are eyeing up fit young men in lycra?

TottersBlatantlyTowardsTheBaileys · 03/04/2026 14:55

😂

Agapornis · 03/04/2026 15:18

Maybe they're letting all the rather aged have a final appearance? Bert, Carol, maybe Oliver... It'll be auntie Chris and Jill next! Perhaps a very localised pandemic will break out for them.

Tracy will be able to use Bert's empty room as a buffer between them and Helen.

How about a baby bird as the new pet in the Malik household? I can imagine Khalil finding a nestling or fledgling blackbird.

FatRosie · 03/04/2026 15:37

Are the The Green houses semi-detached?

Gonners · 03/04/2026 15:42

Yes they are. And Tracy's (or rather Bert's) is a <shudder> council house! I assume they all used to be?

FatRosie · 03/04/2026 15:48

Thanks Gonners. I couldn't find it. They were but most are probably privately-owned now.

Housing-association owned now, I thought, rather than council. They were all council houses when they were built, but (eg) Susan and Neil bought theirs under right-to-buy and later sold it, which was how William ended up owning it.

FatRosie · 03/04/2026 16:06

The website says 'Council house'.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/04/2026 16:14

The website is talking about its original designation, I suspect, since when Neil converted it over Christmas one year and added a downstairs lavatory it was with the Housing Association he had to deal, and when the boiler went belly-up in 2022 Tracy complained that the Housing Association were not getting it mended quickly enough and she had to find someone to help her (and meanwhile went and stayed with Jim so she and Chelsea didn't freeze, until Alice got a friend to come and do it instead of the HA).

The website probably hasn't been updated since about 2003.

FatRosie · 03/04/2026 16:18

The website probably hasn't been updated since about 2003.

That seems likely to be true. Some of the character pages are wildly out of date, for sure.

Alan's, to take a random instance, says "The only blot on the landscape is his rift with Shula Hebden Lloyd over his marriage to Usha. Shula disapproves and this has cast a shadow over this one-time close friendship."

Um, yes, that was probably right in about 2010. When did Shula move away from Ambridge, again? And (more random hits) Helen's stops after Rob left Ambridge after trying to snatch Jack, Mia "hopes to go to University", Chelsea never had that abortion, Alistair hasn't had an affair with Denise (dodged a bullet there, Ali-lad), Fallon has just got together with the man Burns, Burns is still obsessing about Philip Moss, Hannah is still living at 1, The Green,

I could go on but I have got bored.

FatRosie · 03/04/2026 16:43

I picked 2003 because it was on the Ambridge View page. Smile

No need to worry about my morals, thank you! He was sensibly wearing plenty of warm kit. It's quite parky in London today.

It's not warm here either and it's cloudy.

Yes, but I'd forgotten that those pages probably haven't been updated since they were first uploaded!
