God, I loved Ambridge Organics! Didn’t realise how much until it ceased to exist. So much went on there. And as I observed here recently, those were the golden years when Ambridge life was lived in the wider context of a relationship with Borchester.

I don’t really see Helen’s ‘life’s work’ as one of repeated failure. She’s always had the energy to kept trying new things.

@Madcats I’ll skip over her inability to retain a partner.

Helen's partners make me think of Anna Russell's magnificent description of operatic heroines dying of murder, suicide, madness or TB.

FatRosie · 05/03/2026 20:52

She's been very good at getting pregnant.

Still, at least none of her partners was Helen's aunt.

Helen started to talk about making cheese at Bridge Farm on 24th April, 2001, when she was twenty-two. Up to that point, Bridge Farm did not produce a cheese, so it would have been hard for her to learn how to do so from her mother in the dairy there.

Lowfield: "Helen is pushing her luck with Tony: on top of vegetable boxes," [these were a new idea of hers] "she wants to get into making cheese. No. It would be her project involving no work for Mum and Dad. No. She learnt cheese making at Reaseheath and with Ann Baxter. No. The customers are asking for Bridge Farm cheese. Still no."

Thank you, I remembered Helen becoming absolutely obsessed with Ann but couldn't remember the surname. Annebaxter was the centre of Helen's universe for a while, and we all heard about it all the time. It was disturbing.

At that time there was some speculation about whether it was the woman or the cheese making that Helen loved most. Odd that she is now expressing memories of her 'mother' making and teaching cheese construction, which Pat never did. Has Helen gone mad (again)?

She's been very good at getting pregnant.

She has, and she was glowing yesterday.

Gonners · 06/03/2026 07:59

If she is pregnant again, let's hope she tries to pin it on Finlay but it turns out to be Danespawn.

DeanElderberry · 06/03/2026 08:03

When was the Scottish holiday?

Gonners · 06/03/2026 08:38

I don't know ... I have succeeded in erasing it from my internal hard drive.

FatRosie · 06/03/2026 10:59

@DeanElderberry , about 17th November.

@Gonners , I hadn't considered that she was shagging Drain.

ca 16 weeks pregnant, probably by Finlay. I predict much angst and DnA testing, but it's good that she is now equal to Auntie Jennifer wrt babydaddy numbers.

Or maybe not, who knows what counts with poor Henry's father deprived status.

FatRosie · 06/03/2026 11:42

Did she DTD when on holiday?

TottersBlatantlyTowardsTheBaileys · 06/03/2026 11:46

I hadn’t thought so - but perhaps I’ve forgotten.

Assumed Helen impregnation was the purpose of Finlay in Borchester.

TottersBlatantlyTowardsTheBaileys · 06/03/2026 11:47

If she’d been pregnant since November I suspect she’d know by now!

She is in her late 40s, may have drawn the wrong conclusion from any physical signals.

I thought she and Finlay managed a special cuddle after their animal rescuing adventure, but maybe my conclusion was wrong too.

DeanElderberry · 06/03/2026 11:52

I sometimes don't give TA my full attention.

FatRosie · 06/03/2026 11:59

She is in her late 40s, may have drawn the wrong conclusion from any physical signals. was my thought too.

A friend who most definitely wasn't planning on having children found out she was pregnant at 23 weeks. She was in her 30s. The baby is an adult now.

TherapistInATabard · 06/03/2026 13:22

Hmm I’d assumed they hadn’t dtd in Scotland. Would she be glowing less than a week after impregnation?

Gonners · 06/03/2026 13:34

Maybe she's become radioactive?

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/03/2026 13:54

Gonners · 06/03/2026 13:34

Maybe she's become radioactive?

😁
When I started my first teaching job a mother brought her children in and they were definitely glowing. Apparently they had been on the beach at Sheerness and she was convinced they'd got radiation burns from Dungeness nuclear power station. It was clearly sunburn.

NotNowMrTumble · 06/03/2026 15:02

Post coital glow that she definitely doesn’t get with Dane. It’s lurve, Helen, get thee to Scotland and make your cheeses there.

Ambridge · 06/03/2026 15:25

special cuddle

😂 and yet also very much 🤮

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/03/2026 18:36

If she is up-duffed it will presumably be Dane’s as it’s surely far too early to be glowing from The Delectable Crofter’s child (seriously, who’d want Dane when you could have Finlay? Even his voice would be enough… <fans self> )

There will be a lot of hand-wringing either way from the guilt of having “shagged about”.

Gonners · 06/03/2026 18:49

If she is upduffed, that will be three children from three different men (even if one of them was a test-tube). Who does she think she is? Jennifer?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/03/2026 19:45

I really hope she isn't because Henry will suffer if she is, and he is about the only character in the programme I still feel a smidgen of sympathy with.
