I know an Esme who's 29-ish.

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 16:25

Esme was in use just that there weren't many of them. The link is for the last year of Gen Y (i.e. millennials) onwards.

There's not much of an age gap between the twins and David (just over a year), but Elizabeth is about 8 years younger.

Shula and Kenton were born on 8th August,1958; David on 18th September 1959; Elizabeth on 21st April, 1967.

I sometimes wondered if Elizabeth existed in the programme order to be a contrast with Adam, who was born on 22nd June, 1967: how the families reacted, that sort of thing.

3 babies in 14 months!
Could be.

I don't think the sibling set of the Pryors sounds likely; Isabelle, Stella, Lyla are very L, Lyla Pryor is a weird assonance like being called Duncan Monkton or Andrew Pandrew. I don't think the Mumsnet baby names board would approve!

Not for my accent! It wouldn't even occur to me that some people would pronounce Pryor as Pryah.

Decades ago we met a family with four girls called something like Chloe, Jodie, Zoe and Sophie. I also heard of another family whose surname started with S and the names of both parents and all four of their children started with S too. Naming practices can be very odd.

Thank god they're fictional. It really doesn't bear thinking about, and I write as someone whose children were born less than 20 months apart. I remember reading in our local paper a long time ago about a couple who had recently got together. The woman had twins by her previous partner. The man had twins by his previous partner. They had decided to have a child together. Guess what, another set of twins. The sadface photo above the article was entirely understandable.

I know someone who had 2 children, not twins, born within 11 months. Ouch!

I went to school with three siblings called Kenneth, Penelope and Dennis.
Their parents called them Kenny, Penny and Denny.

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 18:44

Were the parents called Lenny and Jenny?
I always thought Phil and Jill was quite funny.

I can't remember what the parents were called 🤔. You're right about Phil and Jill though.
Kenny did rebel a bit and hyphenated "Kenny" with his second name so became Kenny-Rex.
A friend also named her child so that the first and surname rhymed - something like (but not, obviously, actually) Manna Banner.
She said it was fine because it was "Mann-ah Bann-errr".
Obviously, everybody rhymed it as "Manna-Banna".
I also knew a Doris Norris but that was her married name.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2026 19:09

I've mentioned umpteen times on MN a colleague called Honor Head. It wasn't her married name.

I hadn't thought about Adam and Elizabeth being so close in age ... chiefly because Adam has always been middle-aged, whereas Elizabeth at least had a frivolous phase of general bad behaviour before she met Mr Snowy.

Buttcraic · 18/02/2026 19:23

Wth is the story behind kenton and shula? Or are they just v random names for no reason 🤨

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 19:26

Phil and Jill named their children 'Shula' and 'Kenton' by throwing alphabet blocks into the air.

Source: Wiki

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/02/2026 19:39

I have a feeling that Jill may have found those very alphabet blocks while she was emptying the attic at Brookfield ready for the move to Hadley Haugh that never happened.

FatRosie · 18/02/2026 19:42

What happened to the toy farm? Couldn't they offer that to Ben or Josh as their inheritance?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/02/2026 19:53

The strange thing is that attics in Ambridge can be completely cleared out, and then only a few years later be full of things which would have had to have been put there before the clearout happened. Lower Loxley Hall is the same: the attics were emptied for the dry-rot treatment of the roof (which involved all the rafters), emptied again for the deathwatch beetle treatment (ditto), and yet they are still full of relics of Pargetters past whenever the plot needs a painting by a defunct uncle or a brooch for a Christmas present or some other antique for whatever purpose. This goes on being the case even after Elizabeth went through the place with a fine tooth-comb looking for anything of any value that she could sell in order to afford to turn the Old Dairy into a guest block.

The same is true of the Grundy Hereditary Barn, which was completely cleared in the bankruptcy sale they held at the end of their tenancy; some people like David bought a few things of which they (mostly Joe) were particularly fond, but those were kept for several years in the barn on Grundys' Field and I can see no reason for Oliver to have been storing them while the Grundys were living in keepers Cottage. Then suddenly when Oliver had the brass neck to sell ten acres of his own land plus the barn that was on it, the barn was absolutely full of Grundy junk and Eddie was furious about having to get rid of The Grundy Heritage.

Gonners · 18/02/2026 20:05

Any treasure hunter would be sadly disappointed by the contents of our attic, which I think (I never go up there) = one empty suitcase and an empty cardboard box which originally contained a Yamaha digital piano.

The Radio Times has another wordy piece about the NYE shambles. I CBA to type it from Borrowbox, but “Radio Times” has just popped up with it on Facebook with a free to read link (so presumably on the other socials too).

I can only assume that means that the Brian/Ruari/George storyline is going to drag on for years.

That does assume that George is bright enough to realise that he’d get into trouble for thumping Brian in a packed pub in the first place.

If his probation officer gets to speak again, I doubt that we’ll find him in the RT castlists.

The second picture (next to Alice's photo) is exactly how I'd imagined George to look!

FatRosie · 19/02/2026 11:30

Alice looks like how I picture her. 'My' George would have dark hair because I picture Wiwyum and Emmur as being dark-haired. Will's hair almost black and Emma mid-brown or darker.

That's how I see George but not Alice.

Sinittaadancers · 19/02/2026 11:52

George has that haircut that looks like a pile of noodles and shaved back and sides. And dark hair.
