Spoilers thread for The Archers on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. All Archers listeners are welcome here, whether you post on our main Archers thread or not. There's just one rule: please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers thread.

We usually add the BBC teasers and cast lists for forthcoming episodes as they become available, plus the Radio Times and Daily Mail previews when possible. Feel free to add anything else you come across, e.g. cast news, scriptwriter tweets!

Much as Clive is as wrong as a wrong’un can be, I can’t see him having a gun. Far more likely to be a farmer’s shotgun that hasn’t been locked away or maybe even a high-powered air rifle. I did think about Will’s gun, but I think he gave up his gun licence after Eddie thought he was going to kill himself.

Does the 🔮 have an opinion on these matters or is it on a festive hiatus?

The 🔮 has got the hump. It is muttering darkly about red herrings.

Gonners · 31/12/2025 16:50

Yes, @BoreOfWhabylon ... I too fear disappointment.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 31/12/2025 16:56

Rather ironic now that Clive is the only member of the family with any time for George Grundy.

TBF, we don’t know that - it could be that even Cloyve closes his door to George, which pushes him over the edge. Being too bad even for him really WOULD be the indicator that your life isn’t worth living!

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/12/2025 17:01

I'd actually like George to end up not dedded but jailed for a very long stretch. He could then pop up intermittently over the years to wreak havoc.

Madcats · 31/12/2025 17:10

I wasn’t paying attention at the time, but did Clive claim to have become a reformed character last time he was a speaking part?

On that occasion Eddie stole Will's gun, the Purdey left to him by George Barford. Eddie however has his own (used by Ed to slaughter Will's dog) as well as Will's, unless he sold that: since Purdeys are valuable, I expect that was what happened to it. But Eddie does have at least one shotgun, and George is capable of breaking into Grange Farm to lay hands on it; I doubt Eddie keeps it securely, or keeps its ammunition well away from it or locked up, because he's a slapdash idiot.

Yes, and then went on to prove that he was no such thing!

TottersBlatantlyTowardsTheBaileys · 31/12/2025 17:53

It would be awful to think of George in prison for a long stretch. He hated it just as much as Freddie did.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/12/2025 17:54

I don't think prison is actually intended to be fun, or a pleasant holiday.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/12/2025 18:14

It's not, but it would be nice if it did more than just keep bad articles off the streets for a time. They ought to be returned to society better equipped to play their part than they were when they went there, if that's possible. Some, of course, are irretrievably evil. I don't think George is, but he's so bitter and self-pitying that the brutalisation of a short prison sentence surrounded by vicious thugs has made him even worse than he was before he went in. Not great for the rest of us when this kind of thing happens.

Clive has a conviction for armed robbery, so presumably guns are not in the least unknown to him.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/12/2025 18:18

My knowledge of crime comes entirely from fiction, but based on this I'd expect someone like Clive to know how to lay his hands on a gun if he needed one.

Perhaps George will run amok with fireworks; there seem to be plenty of hefty ones going off in my neck of the woods tonight!

Gonners · 31/12/2025 18:44

My only experience of violent crime was about 18 months ago when an otherwise lovely man I know quite well snapped and stabbed his nasty, drunken wife-abusing stepfather. Drugs may have played a part in it and I think he must have called the emergency services himself before stripping off and walking into the sea. Luckily for him (if not for society as a whole) stepfather survived. I assume he's still in prison but nobody knows where. He won't be back, as his mum's family came and took her home with them. To be honest, I had enormous sympathy for him, as did pretty much everyone else.

I've been reading this thread but lurking. Listened live, came straight here, where is everybody? 😬

Gonners · 31/12/2025 19:25

Cooking. Then eating. Back later ...

But that’s it though - having already had a spell inside for holding up the post office (IIRC) he wouldn’t have a gun hanging round the house…

On the main thread, @WeNeedToTalkAboutIT?

Ha ha oh yes, In my recent investment in this thread I had quite forgotten that the other existed!

Also I'm not sure how much I should speculate on that one. Though I imagine there will be plenty of speculation tonight.

I'm currently feeling slightly anti-climatic. Will there be more drama in tomorrow's programming, or will it all be about whodunnit do we think? I'd quite like George to be okay (with a bit of a sore head) then go on to dead somebody tomorrow...

Clive in the spoilers is a red herring, I think.

Madcats · 31/12/2025 19:59

Asking for a friend, but does anybody care about George (aside from his ability as he is usually good at radio drama, so could reincarnate as another character if deaded)?

KnittedFerret · 31/12/2025 20:15

No but he actor is good.

HewasH2O · 31/12/2025 20:16

That really wasn't a rampage

Maybe it's still to come.

Is Keira a silent character? I can't remember what she sounds like

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/12/2025 20:38

Keira has not spoken on air as far as I know.
