Archers thread #148: Unseasonably, it's panto time in Ambridge. He's behind you, Pat! BANG. Discuss the Archers here.

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think George Grundy isn't a psychopath, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Will Rob return, or are they playing with us? Will Pat run amok with her shotgun and wipe out half the village? (We can but hope ...) Will Oliver come to his senses and turf the Grundy clan out of Grange Farm? So many questions, so much time.

Over to you!

And aren't Paul and Lily now living with Josh at the stables after Ben went back to Brookfield?

BitOutOfPractice · 24/04/2023 08:49

Thank for the Paul update! Yes I thought he was a bit overly camp in that scene with Harrison. Like a sledgehammer bit of acting.

The 🔮opines that Sykesy holds the key to the true story of Adam's paternity, and the whereabouts of the pater.

The trouble with this is that everyone who was listening at the time, and anyone who was listening in January 1981, knows that Paddy Redmond was Adam's father, and also knows that Sykesy did not exist until a few weeks ago. (All the Brookfield workers were named and accounted for, for decades; Jethro, Bert or Neil would certainly have mentioned a new worker who threw hay-bales around and kept working dogs, during one of their interminable tea-break chats with anyone who held still for long enough to talk at.)

My theory about him, for what it is worth, is that Jasper Carrott is a feather in the editor's bonnet and nothing more important to Ambridge than that.

TottersBlankly · 24/04/2023 11:05

I don’t invariably agree with you on the TA imaginarium, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime, but I do on this. Paddy Redmond can’t be retconned out of his role in Adam’s existence.

TottersBlankly · 24/04/2023 11:06

And HURRAH for our 10th Anniversary!!! 🎉⭐️

(Will we still be here in 10 years time?)

Gonners · 24/04/2023 11:07

Unless Erin is a scammer (which seems possible) and Sykesy = Paddy Redmond under a false name (which seems so vanishingly stupid and unlikely that it's the sort of thing the scriptwriters would some up with).

BerylBillings · 24/04/2023 11:56

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary!

As a relative newcomer (3 months ago), I'm very much enjoying the good-humoured banter, interesting speculations and wealth of knowledge within this community.

In honour of the above, I offer this rather splendid clip of The Philharmonia Orchestra attempting to baffle Radio 3 listeners with a live transmission of Barwick Green 😆

HebeMumsnet · 24/04/2023 12:23

Happy Anniversary, Archers Threads Posters! We will raise a virtual glass to you all in The Bull tonight at 7pm (and again tomorrow at 2pm). Archers Wine

DadDadDad · 24/04/2023 12:41

Thanks, @HebeMumsnet , for being our hosts. It's still amazing to think we got our own MN emoticon with the Archers and I must remember to use it more!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2023 14:28

Congratulations to all of us for making it through ten long arduous years of Archers listening! Archers

Tagging in @PseudoBadger in the hope that she sees this. She started it all off!

Good shout.
I have been wondering why they have brought him in ... so Adam is Sykesy Jr??

Not necessarily...

No, but Sykesy may well have kept in touch with his old mate Paddy over the years and know whether or not he has in fact popped his clogs.

Erin sounded decidedly dodgy to me.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/04/2023 15:05

And yes, hurrah and congratulations to us!
Is this MNs longest series of threads?

BerylBillings · 24/04/2023 15:05

@HebeMumsnet
Love it when a mod interacts! 🙂

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 24/04/2023 15:12

It would be nice if Sykesy got told the sad story of Adam just missing his dad when he visits Brookfield, and responded briskly, in front of multiple witnesses, 'nonsense, I was on the phone to him just before I came over here, he was asking about the farms'.

Leaving all the Brookfielders wondering who should tell Adam, and how.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/04/2023 15:31

Yep. Erin trying to avoid sharing any inheritance when Paddy pops his clogs.

I don't know. I've been here since the start of these threads, but not much earlier than that. That was long after my children were born so I was never able to take advantage of the threads for women expecting a baby around the same time, but I have the impression some of those women have stayed in touch long-term, and possibly some of that is on here.

I had a very dull user name back then. Gasp0de came along the day Terry Pratchett died. Sad There were a couple in between, I think. I wonder how many on the original thread are still here, under different names? I see @PigletJohn was contributing in forthright fashion. Still a listener?

I do miss Olivia. It was nice having someone from HQ on the thread.

I didn't read it all but liked the chat at the end speculating about a Helen/Rob offspring.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 24/04/2023 17:44

Ten years! Pints of Shires all round. I love reading the threads when I'm supposed to be working and this is such a lovely group. I've really enjoyed all your witty insights and plot predictions over the years.

Whilst you lot are downing celebratory Shires at The Bull, best pay heed to the cautionary tale of boozy Lilian and her ill-advised attempts at eternal youth... Archers

a massive BOOP for that classic Linda sniff. I loved the way they ended the scene on it!
