Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

I didn't scream, but I don't like the use of triggered or triggering.

I like Kirsty, and I'd like her to meet a nice, normal, uncomplicated male heterosexual partner. As she is in Ambridge, she'd be likely to find herself pregnant at 42 or so, and it would be good if she could have a happy healthy child.

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/05/2023 14:46

Would the listeners of The Archers have known who Rylan is, and would they care?
I knew of him and that he had a toothsome grin, but that is all I knew, but I don't watch telly.

GoldenCupidon · 12/05/2023 15:16

toothsome grin

perfect

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/05/2023 19:53

He now has a programme on Radio 4 about modern masculinity. He's crossing over to the serious stuff.

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/05/2023 20:04

I heard a trailer. I'll have to listen to some of it. My thoughts are 'More dumbing down of R4.' but I'll try to have an open mind.

The celebrity cameo was ok IMO but I wasn't concentrating on it as per usual.

We got a Friday cliffhanger doof doofs for the Rylan fans?

I don't see why they wouldn't. I'd have thought some at least much watch Strictly It Takes Two, and also things like The One Show - to say nothing of previous years' Eurovision semi finals.

I caught a few snippets of Ambridge in the omnibus this morning and became distracted by Leonard volunteering for the Repair Cafe.

What happened to Leonard's wife (who I thought was happily senile in the Laurels?). Did she die?

My first memories of Leonard were that he spent a lot of time with her at the care home.

I've lost touch with the main Ambridge thread, but figured that someone on this one could put me right.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/05/2023 13:51

Leonard had been grateful for the care his wife received at the Laurels, so he went on going there as a volunteer after her death, and that was how Jill met him: when he was a widower, in late 2018. She brought him to Brookfield for a meal in February 2019.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 13:51

He's listed in the TA Characters as being a widower.

I've lost touch with the main Ambridge thread Me too.

@Novum , as I said, I don't watch telly. Smile
I did a search for him, and he seems to be quite quick with his tongue.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/05/2023 13:55

I'm fairly sure we never heard Leonard and Jill together at The Laurels; might you have conflated him with I forget his name, the man who taught Peggy, and then later Jill, how to enamel, but was too close for Peggy's comfort and in the end was politely given the brush-off? Um um um Ted, that was it, had a wife in The Laurels. It was back in 2011 when jack had reached the stage at which he didn't really know who Peggy was most of the time.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 14:05

Oh, yes. I'd forgotten about that.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/05/2023 14:15

Meantime, I am doing my best to collect the spoilers into one place, but I think the Daily Mail may have given up their Archers Update altogether, after making it a lot shorter a few weeks back, and the Radio Times is also very short and no longer called the Ambridge Diary. Anyway, here's what there is:

BBC One-Liners
14 May Tony unearths a shocking secret, and the pressure increases at Berrow.
15 May Tempers flare at Bridge Farm, and Brian finds himself with a problem.
16 May There’s a dilemma for Neil, and the Aldridge sisters make their presence felt.
17 May Tom’s head is turned, and Pat tries to find the right words.
19 May Emma struggles to let go, and Adam’s meeting takes a unexpected turn.
20 May Natasha has a fight on her hands, and George underestimates his new role.

Radio Times Soap The Archers 14th – 19th May 2023
Nerves have been jangling at Bridge Farm recently and when the business takes on yet another event, chaos reigns after Tony unearths a shocking secret that leads to confrontations among the fractured Archer family. Meanwhile, the Aldridges have their own secrets as Kate and Alice make it their business to get the dirt on Adam's new sister, and at Berrow Neil faces a tricky dilemma.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 14:48

Thanks Asking. What's the shocking secret?
Will Martyn Gibson try to sack Jazzer while he is off sick?
Will Alice and Kate met Erin?

Gonners · 14/05/2023 14:59

17 May Tom’s head is turned ...

Ooh! By whom - surely not potential flame-haired temptress Erin?

17 May Tom’s head is turned ...

Ooh! By whom - surely not potential flame-haired temptress Erin?

Probably by money: might he be offered even more spondulicks for photos of his children if they will advertise fentanyl, or something?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/05/2023 16:27

Grin Organic fentanyl, maybe. Thanks, Asking! No mention of Timothy Watson in the cast list, I see, but I also note that the Editor is directing this week, which sometimes indicates something big happening. Maybe he just likes to keep his hand in. They have form, of course, for keeping certain actors' names out of the credits released in advance.

OP posts:
Gonners · 14/05/2023 16:55

Spookily, Timothy Watson is married to a woman called Helen.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 17:42

Yes, Helen Grace, who was in Brookside.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 17:48

She was also in Roger, Roger and played Philip Glenister's wife.
I loved Roger, Roger. The crematorium scene was one of the highlights in my TV watching career.

WhoppingBigBackside · 14/05/2023 18:21

H Grace in Roger Roger with P Glenister

Is that it for Rylan?

Are we going to get the judging of the Ambridge Eurovision tonight? A day after the real event?

Gonners · 14/05/2023 18:50

I shall be happy if all we hear of the Ambridge Eurotosh is a report of who won.

Madcats · 14/05/2023 22:46

Thank you for correcting my Laurels mysteries.

I hesitate to ask whether Ben was despatched to the Laurels to ensure that "Aunty Christine" was lured into their cereal cupboard?
