Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Many thanks, Asking!

What did Jennifer have to leave? A share of the farm? She hadn't inherited any money. Hmmm.

Yes, that puzzles me too. I'd assumed that the partnership agreement would prevent her doing anything too absurd/controversial with her share of the farm - otherwise she might leave it to Lilian - the horror!

(Just for the sake of clarity, I was joking above. But if she has done anything like that, I shall claim I was perfectly serious.)

JanglyBeads · 02/04/2023 16:19

Oh I am looking forward to the will!

Gonners · 02/04/2023 19:26

Well, that was disappointing ... unless they were so shocked by the Mar-furr legacy that they didn't read any further and discover that it had been deducted from Alice's share, so that at least she'd be left with something when Alice has made an unsuitable second marriage/drunk away her share/whatever.

Purleeeeese anyone of you lovely Archers listeners. Tell me How did Jenny die????? As you might know (well some of you) I got fed up with the EEnderisation of TA quite a while ago but I just happened to hear a bit on the radio, and it's like hearing of the death of an old friend I hadn't seen for years (strange how involved we get with fictional characters).

I'm bewildered by the new format on MN so forgive me if I've already posted and have been answered!

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/04/2023 09:55

Jenny had a previously undisclosed heart condition and died while on a spa break with Lilian. Only Brian, Tony and Pat knew she had the condition.

Rylan incoming 😂

Plumbing new depths.

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/04/2023 11:49

"I'm looking forward to getting my wellies on and checking out what Eurovision excitement Ambridge's residents have to offer as I pop into the iconic Archer," he added.

Pop into the whatnow?

Madcats · 05/04/2023 12:57

Let's hope that they aren't banging on about Eurovision for the next month.

I imagine that the average listener will struggle to get excited by a celeb actor (who I had to google).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/04/2023 13:10

Oh. Dearie me, I had hoped for someone a bit more exciting and relevant to the Archers core listenership. I suppose this is yet another attempt to woo non-listeners in. Harrumph.

haha that's what I thought!

Turns out beloved Auntie Beeb can't quite copy and paste her own press releases - he actually said "pop into the iconic Archers" which does make a bit more sense. I thought he might mean The Bull!

Rylan arrives in Ambridge for special Eurovision Song Contest-themed episode of BBC Radio 4’s The Archers

On Friday 12 May BBC Radio 4’s The Archers celebrates Eurovision in true Ambridge style as a surprise guest arrives to judge the village’s variety show

GoldenCupidon · 05/04/2023 14:28

Not sure it's wooing much of a younger audience - doesn't he do Radio 2 and daytime telly?

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/04/2023 14:28

I thought he meant The Bull too!
Thanks for clearing that up - great detective work Grin

GoldenCupidon · 05/04/2023 14:30

Haha thanks - must be all the detective chat on the other thread.

I am now imagining an alternative version of the show where it's all based around a pub called The Archer...

MuddlerInLaw · 05/04/2023 14:30
Hmm

So Eurovision enthralment is compulsory now? (If one interacts with the BBC at all for the next few weeks.)

GoldenCupidon · 05/04/2023 14:36

I think they feel the need to occasionally promote BBC things or national events don't they - at least it's not Comic Relief!

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/04/2023 15:04

Who is Rylan Clark?

Is he an actor? I thought Howe said something about this being his acting debut.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/04/2023 16:27

No, Archers debut, I think. He was a model and then on the X Factor and Celebrity Big Brother. Now described as a broadcaster. Appears to be omnipresent on the BBC at the moment.

I looked him up; I am not convinced that any of his work has actually involved acting! Presenting panel thingies and so on isn't acting, on the whole, is it? But yes, you are probably right and what Howe said was "Archers debut". Which is horrifying, because it suggests he will be appearing in TA more than once, and celebrities as actors really ought not to be what the programme is about.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/04/2023 17:10

Performing, perhaps. Rare for a celeb to appear more than once. That's what we have to cling to.

OP posts:
Gonners · 05/04/2023 17:19

I assume (like Princess Margaret and so many since) he'll be playing himself, or at least the version of himself he presents to those who either like that sort of thing or can't get to the TV off-switch fast enough. That probably doesn't count as acting.

stilldumdedumming · 05/04/2023 18:02

Full disclosure- I bloody love Rylan. I think he's more talented than he gets credit for! Hence the relative longevity imho. I for one cannot wait!
