Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you like the sound of Lilian’s Cinnamon Chicken, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I'm often struck by the time a thread ends how irrelevant the previous title has become to what's currently going on in The Archers. The Queen's death has only been mentioned very briefly in TA, of course, but I suppose that was to be expected in a time of budget constraints. In a few weeks when this thread fills up I wonder if we will still be thinking that, and about Chelsea and her pregnancy. That depends on what she decides to do, which at the time of writing is still up in the air.

As usual, I asked for title ideas and for various reasons then didn't use them. Sorry. Lillian Gish's was very witty - Will Chelsea stay mum about dad? Muddler made a more controversial one - Horrobins thread #139. As a new Great House of Ambridge emerges, come swear your allegiance here. Grin

That's about all I can face saying about TA at the moment. I am expecting to have to travel north soon as my Dad is in hospital and I have to be with my Mum. (They're the same sort of age as Jill Archer, and up to now have been like her and Peggy, very active, managing very well with no help, but this may all be about to change Sad). So apologies if I'm more absent than present for a while. Will pop in when I can.

What is a dancing frock? Could Chelsea lend me one, or Tracey? or Jennifer?

ILoveShula · 22/09/2022 16:49

Searched for dancing dress and ceilidh. Like the look. Shame I can't dance but I'd give it a go. Maybe Aardvark could teach me. We haven't heard from Kirsty for a while

MuddlerInLaw · 22/09/2022 16:56

Kirsty will have fallen into romantic misfortune with one of Phoebe’s colleagues …

Was Chelsea into disguise? What if she donned a wig and put on a different voice and was one of Roy’s swipe rights. Or left. I don’t know. Whichever would mean they met for a date. Or two.

ILoveShula · 22/09/2022 16:59

Wouldn't Tracey have scared him off?

MuddlerInLaw · 22/09/2022 17:01

She wouldn’t have known!

ILoveShula · 22/09/2022 17:05

I meant Roy might have noticed something was strangely familiar about his date and felt the need to be even more boring

I'm hoping that Asking or someone will come along and remind us. In the meantime, as you, Muddler are a bit of a fashionisTA, can you suggest a suitable set of clothes for a week in the Borders. I'm not going there (too far) but I can take a stroll through the neighbourhood looking stylish.

I have an ecru cardigan, jeans, jodhpur boots, a hacking jacket, my trusty barbour etc. Would that do? Would a nice kilt and brogues be useful?

If this is a genuine enquiry, and you live somewhere far to the south, my sole bit of advice is pack some warm clothes - maybe layers so you will be prepared for all eventualities. I left in a great hurry last week and was freezing for the first couple of days I was Up North. I've been caught out this way before, so it was stupid not to cram in an extra jumper (I need a Dan to help me pack, obviously).

I wish I had a kilt. Such a beautiful garment. I suppose you have to have them dry cleaned, though.

ILoveShula · 22/09/2022 17:18

I have kilts as in tartan pleated wrap-over skirts. Wool doesn't really need dry cleaning, just spot cleaning. I love a bit of tartan.

I'm not really going to the Borders but talk of it makes me want to and I thought I could wait until we get a cold snap, and dress up nicely and go for a walk in the woods and fields around here.

I think it's a 7- hour drive from here. It's been about 20 years since I've been.

ILoveShula · 22/09/2022 17:29

We've passed the equinox and it is noticeably cooler especially in the evenings.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/09/2022 17:40

Of course, wool. We have a residual clothes moth problem, so I don't buy woollen garments any more. I had a beautiful cashmere cardigan a few years ago which the wee bastards feasted on. I wonder how Shula keeps them at bay. I bet she wears cashmere.

The Guinea pig thing was weird but perhaps that was just because it was the first hint that George was Truly a Relative of Clive (TRC? TAROC?)

TheSummerySilveryPussycat · 22/09/2022 18:59

Perhaps Shula should have consulted Ruth or Joy about suitable clothes.

The NE is by and large cold and windy, though it doesn't rain much as it's in the rain shadow of the Lake District.

Sunderland is colder. And windier.

stilldumdedumming · 22/09/2022 19:09

I have thought this through. My money is on Toby for pa. Pip is already upset that T is leaving and although new baby won't be an Archer, it's Pip's way or the highway generally and something that takes T away from their cosy arrangement will piss her off massively! Can't wait! And she will be all superior to Chelsea too who will be a brilliant mum.

MuddlerInLaw · 22/09/2022 19:19

BOOP for tonight’s madness!

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 22/09/2022 19:20

Oh bore off Jazzer-it's 100% none of your business. How I loathe him.

JanglyBeads · 22/09/2022 19:21

Poor old Brad!

TwoBlondes · 22/09/2022 19:24

Surely Brad would have learned his lesson about grassing on Chelsea after what happened with Russ?

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 22/09/2022 19:24

Really, Jazzer, just bore off, what an ignorant , self- righteous pig he is. He's not Chelsea's father. His opinion counts for nothing. No wonder Chelsea spoke to Alastair.

JanglyBeads · 22/09/2022 19:26

Love to hear what you say about people you don't like in RL .....

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 22/09/2022 19:27

TwoBlondes · 22/09/2022 19:24

He's only young, poor lad.

I suppose it was too much to expect that the pig ignorant comedy Jock person would have learned a lesson about rushing in. I want to slap Jazzer- none of this is his business.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 22/09/2022 19:34

Oh for duck's sake. I now want to slap the lot of them, except Brad. (I want Mr Gently Benevolent to adopt Brad and remove him from his idiotic family)

No Chelsea , you won't be a brilliant mum; you'll be a disaster living on benefits and the odd bit of black economy cash in hand from cutting hair. The father in all probability will want nothing to do with you or your baby.

I'm tending towards Toby too but it's a pity Chelsea's brat won't be an Archer.

I do not think Chelsea will be a brilliant mum.

stilldumdedumming · 22/09/2022 19:38

Haven't listened yet. Does anyone know what a brilliant mum is by the way. I don't!

After the tedium of Tuesday and Wednesday it was a corker tonight.

And the father is..... cue drum roll- No idea! (I mean we have no idea, Chelsea does)

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/09/2022 19:43

I becoming more convinced its a random we don't know. Did she say he knows she's pregnant? I was distracted and wasn't sure.
