Very curious about why Tony and Lilian might need to be providing Avengers level support to their sister, though ... (Is it her birthday soon?)

No, she was born on 7th January. It's probably just to help her get through the worry about Alice and the attacks by Emma.

ppeatfruit · 18/05/2021 14:21

Hello everyone! I'm teetering on the edge of giving up on TA, i listened to the Christening debacle which was ,of course , no surpise, and find it impossible to listen now.

Has Martha gone to live at Emms? Has Alice moved on sans husband and baby? I hate listening to misery, there's enough in RL IMO. We really don't need EE on the radio .

Should I listen or not? Opinions gratefully accepted

TheThermalStair · 18/05/2021 14:43

Martha is temporarily staying with Chris and his parents' house. Looking after her is knackering our Susan and Neil, and Emma is getting roped in too. Alice seems to be home alone with visits from Jenny. Brian is still in denial about the alcoholism.

It's pretty miserable but more novel than Eastenders to me.

MayIDestroyYou · 19/05/2021 19:55

Hmph! No Plod this week, so I assume Alice isn't being led away in handcuffs as I write. Which is a pity.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/05/2021 20:09

Expect it's happening off air. We'll hear the fall out tomorrow. Hopefully after she's had a night in the cells.

Susan isn't in the cast list for the next couple of weeks.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/05/2021 20:20

Well, we now know what the "shocking mistake" Alice was "set to make" was.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/05/2021 20:35

Yes Asking, which is why I'm still inclined to think it was driving into the shoo whilst drunk, ie "mistake", rather than deliberate lobbing of something through the window.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/05/2021 20:35

*shop

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/05/2021 08:26

Oh gosh, should we assume Susan ends up in hospital then? I've just had a quick look through all the upcoming episode teasers, and I can't see anything that indicates Susan has gone to the Great Shop in the Sky. They'd be mad to kill Susan off. One of the best characters, and one of the best actors.

(Never have I needed that overinf/vested emoticon more. Blush)

It definitely didn't sound as if there were a car engine involved.

It could be described as a mistake if one threw a brick and hit a person instead of "only" the window one had meant to break, I would think.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2021 11:39

It definitely didn't sound as if there were a car engine involved.
If the car was parked just outside and in Reverse, there wouldn't necessarily be much engine noise before it crashed into the window when she started up.

I thought it sounded like a brick/rock though. Not an empty bottle.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/05/2021 12:00

Interesting use of the word 'mistake' in both the previews above. Lobbing a brick or a rock at the door or window of the shop would surely not merit description as a 'mistake'. Attempting to drive off while drunk and accidentally going into reverse might, but it didn't sound like that.

I'll have to be patient and wait for tonight for all to be made clear. I see the teaser says Alice faces the consequences of her actions. Also looks like Jazzer is going to try to comfort Jim. That makes me think Susan has been injured and Jim is blaming himself.

If Susan is badly hurt, I can't see Chris ever going back to Alice. He could get a divorce pretty quickly on grounds that his wife nearly killed his mother, I expect. Sad

Lobbing the brick: deliberate. Hitting and injuring Susan: she didn't mean to do that, so it was a mistake?

As you say, we might find out this evening.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2021 12:56

I suppose, at a stretch, 'mistake' could mean a bad choice made on the spur of the moment. I don't think it would stand up in court, though.

ThewaterlilliesofGiverny · 20/05/2021 13:19

Maybe in “BBC radio soapland” top QC defence lawyer hired by Daddy could try very hard to persuade a jury it was an “mistake” made by a “naice middle-class girl”

MayIDestroyYou · 20/05/2021 13:33

They'd do that in real life too, ThewaterlilliesofGiverny - putting forward the best case for their client is a basic part of a barrister's job, regardless of who is paying. Though, unless Susan has died, Alice's brick through a window is unlikely to merit QC involvement.

Is it tactless to say that as they may not have been able to record the incident on the spot, the noise-makers will have to find the nearest approximation which might not involve a brick, car or even shop.

I'm curious about the lack of doctors or police in the cast list. Perhaps tonight will be one of those terribly dramatic "the next moment" follow ons where it's Susan bleeding in the shop and Jim trying to look after her as Emma comes and starts beating up Alice etc. :(

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2021 16:04

Is it tactless to say that as they may not have been able to record the incident on the spot, the noise-makers will have to find the nearest approximation which might not involve a brick, car or even shop. I did say after that that I don't even know what a brick through a window really sounds like. I am fortunate never to have experienced it in RL.

Madcats · 20/05/2021 18:04

Knowing the way the recent Alice storylines have gone (like the day she decided to leave Chris and the baby), it is quite possible that tonight's writer ignores the "brick/bottle/window" completely!

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2021 19:31

Social services at last.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/05/2021 19:32

I'm surprised the hospital didn't set that going.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/05/2021 19:34

And we do now know it was a brick.

Ambridge is the village where they have bricks lying around all over the place, and people throw them to make a point; remember Freddie and PC Burns bullying Ben into telling him who threw one at the village hall's door?

ppeatfruit · 21/05/2021 12:04

Thank you The ThermalStair It sounds like Alice is still drinking, oh dear I'm glad I've stopped listening I do miss it a bit, most of the other characters are not too bad, I expect there'd be someone else to take the "off the wall' Alice's place if she left.

TheThermalStair · 21/05/2021 13:48

Well done Team Brick Star Grin

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Thanks, Asking! I'm also delighted to see Peggy at last. Gobsmacked by Asking's revelation on the other thread that Pat hasn't been in an episode for nearly 18 months. Ludicrous, even allowing for COVID - unless the actor is ill. Very much hope not.
I've been wondering about Pat Archer a lot and was moved to ask Keri Davies about it on Twitter, he said that as far as he knew, Patricia Gallimore was all right, but that they are only using small cast numbers at the moment.
