That was grim.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/03/2022 17:58

I have been away for the weekend on a jolly so these are a little late; I don't think it matters too much. Hope not, anyway.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 13th - 17th March 2022
Alice may have a new-found desire to make up for her more egregious past mistakes, but her latest plan will prove to be controversial for more than one villager. And, after loyalties are questioned, it soon becomes clear that her decision will have huge ramifications.
Over at Willow Farm, there's life-or-death drama as one resident gets themselves into trouble. Roy decides that the time has come to seek professional help - but will he receive the advice he wants? And as Harrison's big day arrives, an argument begins to brew just as a late arrival threatens to scupper the event.
Finally, Tony is suspicious when Peggy makes a surprising offer and Jim receives an unexpected gift.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 13th - 17th March 2022
Will Harrison, dressed in a white robe, be dunked by Alan in the mighty Am while the rest of the villagers follow him down to the riverside? It’s not how they do things in Ambridge, but we can live in hope. As Harrison’s big day approaches, Fallon’s fears of being preyed on by the righteous and the holy reach fever pitch.
There’s further tension from Alice when she makes a decision that has huge ramifications for many a soul in Ambridge.
Meanwhile, Alan and Jim, in their own separate ways, find out if it is better to give than receive. Roy gets caught between a rock and a hard place, and Justin and Lilian - always keen to store up treasure on Earth - find themselves with cause for concern.

Thanks @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime. Hope you had a nice jolly

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/03/2022 22:43

Oh yes, thank you! A friend I have known for (eek) almost thirty-five years invited me to stay. It was great fun. I seem not to have grown out of sitting up into the early hours drinking too much coffee and talking about the whichness of the wherefore, playing Paddy Roberts songs, and deciding which if any of the current crop of world leaders we would spare if we were in charge of the lightning and could strike down everyone we wanted.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/03/2022 12:09

Thanks, Asking! I see we have a character called Nora arriving, played by Ellie Darvill, whose IMDB entry says she plays Philomena Woodruff in The Archers. I expect you can clarify at least some of that for us! I can only think of Nora Salt who I believe was a barmaid before I started listening, and lived with George Barford for a time. Surely not her.

OP posts:
WhoppingBigBackside · 14/03/2022 12:24

I thought Nora would be the mediator.
My guess is that Kristiffur somehow lets slip and Alice goes apeshit

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/03/2022 12:28

Thanks Asking. I also noticed New Nora in the cast list.

Added trivia: the actress is apparently the mother of Arthur Darvill (Broadchurch, Dr Who)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/03/2022 14:25

In 2017, Philomena Woodruff was a friend of Lilian's who had a horse called Chinese Lantern whom Matt was trying to buy. She spoke once, on 7th November, 2017.

I think Ellie Darvill bigged that up a bit for the IMDb!

Nora McAuley was Paddy Redmond's fiancée when she came over from Ireland in 1967 to be with him (this was after he had tupped Jennifer) but after being in Ambridge for a short while she didn't want to move south with him. She stayed in her job as a barmaid at The Bull and became a regular in TA; when Adam was born about a month after Paddy had upped sticks, Nora guessed the father but didn't say. Next year she married Greg Salt and stayed with him for four years, and after that she got together with George Barford, moving in after he had tried to kill himself and ended up in hospital. She'd moved back out because he was impossible when she discovered she was pregnant and decided not to tell him about it, but he found out and wanted her back. Then she fell downstairs at The Bull and had a miscarriage, and then felt able to move back in with George for a while before she moved out again to work in the canning factory in Borchester, where she met someone who lived in Borchester and moved in with him instead. That was in 1978.

In 1981 Paddy Redmond came back to Ambridge to try to see Nora and was directed to her new residence by Polly Perks at The Bull. She told him (offstage) that Adam was probably his son and he came back to try to find the boy but was seen off by Brian.

Nora McAuley/Salt was played by Julia Mark (January 1967 - April 1977) and then once by Daphne Neville (June 1977). I think this must be a different Nora, on the whole.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/03/2022 14:44

Thanks, all! I had wondered whether she was related to Arthur. It's an unusual surname.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 20th - 24th March 2022
For a while it's been obvious that the truth about Amy & Chris must come out, so is this the moment when Alice learns of their romance? Archers' bosses are being vague, but we are promised "a shocking confession" that'll be the catalyst for a major blame game. Over at the vicarage, meanwhile, Alan has big concerns about a family member, but what will his reaction be when he learns some fresh facts?
On to Easter prep now, and a mysterious giant-sized bunny is spotted around Ambridge. Lily is convinced she knows who's behind the mask, but is she right? Justin, meanwhile, causes a stir on the cricket team, while a villager feels the wrath of Jazzer after he makes an alarming discovery.

Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 20th - 24th March 2022 You’ll never catch any of us spilling the beans to an Ambridger. We know that eavesdroppers lurk behind every hedge, so we keep our thoughts and our dark secrets to ourselves whenever we are in the purlieus of that buzzing hive of gossip. Others - and by now they should know better - are not so cautious and too much given to blabbing. Loose-lips Lily falls into the trap of oversharing this week as she bonds with an in-law, makes a confession, then worries she might regret being so trusting. Lily’s confession is as nothing, though, when someone else owns up to something awful, and, as the dust settles, the Ambridge air becomes thick with blame and recriminations.

Does Lily finger Freddie or Russ? Russ was coerced into an Easter Bunny costume at Lower Loxley a while ago, so he does have form...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/03/2022 14:03

Thanks, Asking! Giant bunny seen, alcoholic resident - reminds me of the film Harvey with James Stewart. I doubt TA will be as charming, but I will persevere.

Thanks @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime.

Lily doesn't have any in-laws

@WhoppingBigBackside

Thanks *@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime*.

Lily doesn't have any in-laws

The husband or wife of her sister or brother are in-laws aren't they?
BoreOfWhabylon · 19/03/2022 16:42

Thanks Asking. Lily going to fess up to her one night stand with wossname then?

Looks like SWs are set on giving the Ambridge snowglobe a thorough shaking after the lockdown stasis.

They would be if Freddie were married, but as far as we know he isn't.

Duh! I was thinking of Lillian not Lily.

Maybe she wants to get rid of Russ?

I don't think there is much more horror they could put Brian and Jennifer through at this point, what with Kate, Adam and now Alice. I wish Brian would tell his grasping brats that they have shares in the business but he owns the land, and sell up leaving them to sink or swim without the bank of Daddy, while he and Jennifer move to Capri or Cyprus or some other salubrious place starting with a C.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/03/2022 17:48

Yes, I think the SWs will be getting rid of Russ fairly soon. He no longer serves any purpose.

rivermum · 20/03/2022 07:34

Thanks, Askingquestionsallthetime.
I'm wondering if they mean Beth when they say in-laws....but she's potential future step-sister?

TottersBlankly · 20/03/2022 07:47

Thanks!

Though really, I can’t see why Amy’s love life (as we used to call it) should cause ‘devastation’ at the vicarage …

A half-sibling for Marthyr.

I think maybe they simply got little confused and thought Elizabeth has married Vince. It has to mean Beth, doesn't it, with that cast?

Oh, no, please not!

(Backs away behind crossed fingers)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/03/2022 12:48

Maybe Alan is simply concerned about Amy's propensity for having sex with man who are married to another woman at the time.

KimikosNightmare · 20/03/2022 16:53

I'm just happy to see Russ back. I know I'm a lone voice but like Kate, he's truly awful in an amusing way rather than just truly awful as in truly tedious like Pip or Alice.
