@TottersBlankly,
Though really, I can’t see why Amy’s love life (as we used to call it) should cause ‘devastation’ at the vicarage …

A half-sibling for Marthyr.
Spooky! I just predicted this on the main thread Shock [woo emoji]

TottersBlankly · 20/03/2022 19:10

Completely accept the Amy’s Baybee story must be coming - but it’s a bit soon for it to be causing uproar at the vicarage, surely?

Madcats · 21/03/2022 10:08

I don't like Alice and Chris (and Fallon is far too grumpy for me to tolerate) so I am not really listening to the Archers.

Didn't Amy head back to Nottingham after the party? If she is upduffed I don't think she'll be telling her parents just yet.

It recently struck me that Ed and Emma are about the only "traditional" family unit in Ambridge amongst the under 50's.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/03/2022 17:18

I'd never noticed that, and you're absolutely right! Tom and Natasha are heading that way, but won't be until after the twins are born, and the other candidates are either single, childless, divorced, or had their spouse die. Unless I have missed someone, but I don't think I have. (Adam and Ian are over fifty so I don't have to think about whether they count as traditional because of being two married parents with a child...)

TottersBlankly · 21/03/2022 17:34

Ed and Emma, traditional?

But George!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/03/2022 20:34

@TottersBlankly

Ed and Emma, traditional?

But George!

Ah. Um. I still think that being and staying married is fairly traditional, even if there is an extra child who only has the genes of one of them. (And some of the other's, presumably, since Ed is George's uncle.)

Two parents and two children... It ought to be 1.7 children, or something, but they are pretty average. How Emma would hate that being said about her!

Madcats · 22/03/2022 05:56

I suppose the Buttons sisters might both have the same parents in a coherent family unit, but I can't think of anybody else.

So many dead parents.

I can never remember who fathered George (16 in a fortnight!). I was an "occasional omnibuser" at that point.

TottersBlankly · 22/03/2022 07:13

I wasn’t suggesting that possession of step children ruled a family out from being ‘traditional’ Grin

But the Ed / Emma / Will (George’s bio father, Madcats) situation was decidedly irregular. Though they all seem to have risen above it now.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/4ZqGb18Z5L8kn1wjLFwYk00/emma-grundy

George should surely be granted a voice pdq. (The SW’s traditional gift to previously silent child characters as soon as they’re old enough to get into independent trouble.) I imagine he’s nervously putting together his final portfolio at drama school as I write …

Madcats · 22/03/2022 08:13

After his drunken vicar videos doing the rounds, I'd hoped to hear more of George.

I wonder whether his fate has been decided? Is he destined to be an agricultural worker?

It's odd that Tracey has been busy recruiting geriatrics when she has quite a few teens in the village.

EthelTheAardvark · 22/03/2022 10:35

Surely a midwife of all people knows how to avoid getting upduffed?

Is the rabbit costume wearer going to be Lily's one night stand?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/03/2022 13:39

Last we heard, George was doing a BTEC agriculture course at Borchester.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 27th - 31st March 2022
The future of Berrow Farm is being decided, with Brian pitching to save the business and Justin angling to close it down. Obviously, Neil, Jazzer and Hannah all depend on Berrow for their income, so the outcome of this clash could well have a major impact on them.
There’s high drama elsewhere as Chris and Amy’s relationship becomes common knowledge. Kate goes on the warpath, while Alan struggles to keep control of the situation. By the end of the week, Alice will realise what she really wants, while Chris and Amy have some life-changing decisions to make.
Finally, Natasha has some news to drop on Pat and Tony, while Susan offers support to someone in need of a friend.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 27th - 31st March 2022
Brian used to stride around Borchester in his cravat and caddish shoes, on the lookout for opportunities - of all kinds. Back then, he was described as dashing and ruthless as he snaffled up land, sacked workers and broke hearts. Now, though, Brian appears to be sticking up for the underdog as he goes head to head with Justin to save Berrow Farm. Is it because he’s fighting for the future of Hannah, Jazzer and Neil, or does Brian just like sticking it to Justin?
With all this jiggery-pokery about the piggery going on, Tom the Sausage King spots a chance to bring home the bacon.
Meanwhile, gossip about Chris and Amy flies up and down, Jazzer finds a supporter, and the thud of Kate on the warpath sends tremors through Ambridge.

If Kate thinks she has any smidgen of moral high ground to stand on, she is seriously mistaken.

Many thanks, Asking! I see that Keri Davies is the writer this week. On balance, I think he's one of the better writers. He certainly knows the programme from the inside going back well over 20 years now. Fingers crossed.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/03/2022 19:13

Thanks Asking

Tom spots an opportunity.

Lard. With the impact of World Events on sunflower and corn oil supplies, it's an obvious winner (and a far 'healthier' fat than most people realise)

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/03/2022 12:11

Thanks Asking

Might the life changing decision be whether or not Marthyr gets a half-sibling?

KimikosNightmare · 27/03/2022 21:19

@WhoppingBigBackside

Thanks Asking

Might the life changing decision be whether or not Marthyr gets a half-sibling?

I don't think Amy is upduffed. There's enough drama going on without that.
WhoppingBigBackside · 30/03/2022 12:30

I suppose we have Pinky and Perky to look forward to.

Maybe Porridge will move into the flat

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 3rd - 7th April 2022
The contempt in which Ruairi held Alice was palpable last time he was in Ambridge, so what will he make of her actions when he returns for the holidays? At the moment, she’s drawing battle lines and making a momentous decision that riles Chris even further. So, there’s every chance that tensions between her and Ruairi will also boil over once again.
Elsewhere, we have Freddie and Josh hatching plans for Easter celebrations. Both hope to expand their businesses, but there’s a strong chance one will get egg on their face. Over at Grey Gables, suspicions are raised by a new arrival, Vince makes a surprising offer and one resident comes unstuck trying to hide a secret.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 3rd - 7th April 2022
Chris and Alice are at that stage where the word 'amicable' has been discarded and the real carve-up starts. Alice sets matters on a nasty course when she makes a decision that forces Chris to fight fire with fire. There's a lot at stake here, including Aldridge acreage, and the rumblings from this could echo round Ambridge for generations.
To fuel the flames, Ruairi returns for the holidays. He and Alice, as we well know, don't get on, ever since Alice told him he wasn't really an Aldridge - a bit ironic, that, given that Ruairi is Brian's only biological son - and that, too, will echo round Ambridge for generations.
Meanwhile, a new arrival rocks up at Grey Gables, and Vince - paramour of the widow Pargetter - makes an offer ...

I assume the new arrival at Grey Gables must be Adil Shah; I wonder what suspicions he'll raise, and among whom...

Madcats · 02/04/2022 17:24

Thanks Asking.

So Stella has a surname! Hopefully that means we won't have to cope with "tired and miserable" Adam for a while longer.

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/04/2022 13:25

Thanks Asking

ILoveShula · 07/04/2022 19:37

Might Adil be a hotel inspector or a prospective buyer?

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/04/2022 19:41

I think he's a buyer.

So do I. Belated thanks, Asking!

The weeks go faster and faster; I was out all day yesterday so these didn't go up, but I hope nobody minded!

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 10th - 14th April 2022
Brookfield becomes the scene of Apprentice-style drama as Josh pitches his latest concept for the farm's development. But when David and Ruth pour cold water on it, an unexpected person advises him not to give up. So Josh comes up with a plan B - but now he's after investment from an outside source. And the family might not be so pleased about getting into bed financially with this individual....
Over at Lower Loxley, Freddie tries to enhance the upcoming celebrations by tracking down the Easter bunny. There are shocked faces all round when Ruairi reveals what happened in London. And Elizabeth finds her nose pushed out of joint.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 10th - 14th April 2022
In their own separate ways, Josh and Freddie are hoping an Easter Bunny with ready cash will hop into their lives. Both of them have plans, but neither has enough of the folding stuff to turn those dreams into Ambridge reality.
The other Easter Bunny, whom some of us find a little creepy, continues to hop around the village, possibly hoping for another frisky frisking from Lily.
The approach of Easter brings Ruairi back to the village, prompting the younger Ambridge set to gather round to hear tales of life in That London, but will their rural ears be prepared for what he has to say?
Meanwhile, the mystery guest at Grey Gables - who may or may not also be the Easter Bunny - continues to put noses out of joint.
