TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

But it was Noluthando who said it was ancient lore to Linda, so Kate was not being racist.

Loved her upbraiding of Noli, saying she'd betrayed her trust. WTF was she thinking, leaving an untrained person in charge of treatments for a paying customer? By the way, does Kate have any woo-related training?

Vango · 04/01/2018 21:44

Kate was teetering on the brink (fell over?) of being racist with her assumption that Noluthando was using some ancient tribal medicine.

That's what Noli had told Lynda it was! Kate didn't know that she was lying.

I think someone's going to die/get seriously ill from one of Freddie's E's.

Vango · 04/01/2018 21:45

Too slow.

Vango · 04/01/2018 21:48

I quite like Noluthando for having the sense to see that drug dealing is a 100% No

Not quite 100%. Wasn't she happy to go along with selling the 'shrooms'?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 21:49

Yes I know Noli told her that but come on wasn't it obvious Noli had made it up to cover the fact she had been left to deal with a customer?

There was no need for Kate to react the way she did except her assumption Noli must have been using ancient tribal lore rather than a bright idea made up on the spot.

Vango · 04/01/2018 21:54

Kate's very honest (I think). She says what she means. I believe that she'd be surprised to hear that Noli 'made up' the treatment so it was easy for her to accept Lynda's version of events. She also believes, heart and soul, in the value of her business and probably feels devastated that Noli can rubbish it so readily.

Vango · 04/01/2018 21:58

WTF was she thinking, leaving an untrained person in charge of treatments for a paying customer?

Kate didn't leave her in charge of treatments on purpose. She said she'd be back in time for the next booking in an hour, having forgotten that Lynda had made an appointment.

echt · 04/01/2018 22:02

But she still did it.

MrsGrindah · 04/01/2018 22:02

I actually felt a bit sorry for Kate.. she seemed genuinely hurt

MrsGrindah · 04/01/2018 22:03

And I can’t bear her normally!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 22:03

Yes she completely forgot about Lynda.

Vango · 04/01/2018 22:06

But she still did it

All Noli had to say was "sorry, she's not here", and let Kate face the consequences. Making up a 'tribal' treatment was making a mockery of Kate's beliefs. Not kind.

ppeatfruit · 04/01/2018 22:14

Susan DOESN'T know about the pup that's why she was shouted at by Emma for trying to get Pip to try Kefir in the coffee shop.

I like Noli because she's a typical teen who's had a fairly difficult upbringing. (great to her her tell Kate some home truths) she's bright too. Freddie's not so bright but he's also typical.

ppeatfruit · 04/01/2018 22:16

typo alert ; to 'hear' her tell Kate the truth.

JessieMcJessie · 04/01/2018 23:21

Is Kefir not allowed when you’re pregnant? It’s not fermented as in alcoholic is it?

I was a bit surprised in the Kate/Noli/treatment scenario that Lynda expected Kate to be doing the treatment, I didn’t think Kate was trained to do any of the stuff herself, just managed the business and got people in to do them.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 23:27

Professor Google says kefir is safe for pregnant women. I would have assumed that as it has live bacteria (I think?) that it fell within the blue cheese/ soft cheese verboten list.

Does Bridge Farm make it from pasteurised or pasteurised milk? Presumably it is unpasteurised?

BashStreetKid · 04/01/2018 23:30

I sort of assumed that the shrooms fell within the world of legal drugs, but on checking that out I see that magic mushrooms definitely aren't. So have Freddie and Noluthando been selling psilobycin or is it something else that is legal? Isn't there some sort of convention in TA that characters who break the law can't be seen to get away from it? If so, Freddie at least should be enjoying Her Majesty's hospitality before very long. They'd probably ship Noli back to S Africa quickly to escape justice.

StVincent · 04/01/2018 23:45

"The best I can say about 'new' Tom is that he does sound like he is related to Tony." PAHAHA 😁 That's the very definition of damning with faint praise isn't it?

I thought Jolene was really sweet with Pip, typical of her. Jolene and Fallon are some of the only people in the village who are properly nice IMO. Plus Robert and Kirsty. When are we going to find a nice man/good life opportunity for Kirsty?

TheAntiBoop · 05/01/2018 08:41

Jolene sounded a little exasperated at the end. She'd just told pip half the village knows and pip is still agonising? She really is an idiot

DadDadDad · 05/01/2018 09:37

Thread's nearly full! Yesterday, I asked if someone else wanted to take on role of starting new thread, and asked for title suggestions. You've all ignored me. Angry I'm off to sulk now...

Right, finished sulking. I'll start a new thread shortly. Smile

I dislike Jolene - she's a serial OW, and her conversations with Lillian when Lillian was the OW were nauseating.

RubyLennoxExists · 05/01/2018 10:02

Re magic mushrooms - I think they were legal to possess or to sell up till about 25 years ago providing they were not processed in any form. So you could pick them, hold them in your hand, and sell them to someone legally, but if you dried them out, for example, before selling them that was illegal.
I do remember seeing them openly for sale in Covent Garden in the early 90's.
