TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

This thread will be full in the next couple of days. So:

pseudo has not returned - will someone else volunteer to take up the mantle of thread-starter? The pay's not great but you get your posts highlighted in purple (and a corner office).

Suggestions for thread titles (or at least questions to pose in the next title).

it's just not realistic that anyone outside her family would be that interested in Pip's pregnancy.

I take it you don't live in a small village? Its an illegitimate child- masses of local interest in that usually.

PurplePillowCase · 04/01/2018 18:09

t's just not realistic that anyone outside her family would be that interested in Pip's pregnancy.

imo very realistic, curtain twitching included.
every village has at least one a susan as well.

anyhow, pip - toby. are they related?

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2018 18:13

Pip and Toby are not related.

PurplePillowCase · 04/01/2018 18:18

wasn't there something with peggy and the old fairbrother!

PurplePillowCase · 04/01/2018 18:18

?

JessieMcJessie · 04/01/2018 18:24

i’m guessing you are new to TA Purple 😀?
Welcome. All the history is on the BBC website but in very brief: Toby’s Dad is the half (or step?) brother of Grace Fairbrother, who was Pip’s grandad’s first wife and died tragically in a fire not long after the wedding. Pip’s grandma, Jill hates all Fairbrothers as she feels she can never live up to the Sainted Grace.
Toby’s Dad had an extramarital affair with Pip’s aunt Elizabeth when Elizabeth was in her twenties, before Toby was born. Jill was deeply unimpressed by this.

Imbroglio · 04/01/2018 18:28

Phil's first wife Grace was a Fairbrother. Jill can't get over her because she was gorgeous and died in a fire rescuing her horse. Robin Fairbrother (Trex's dad) had an affair with Elizabeth. I think.

TASWAMA= The Archers' Script Writers Are Misogynist Arseholes.

BertrandRussell · 04/01/2018 18:52

“Surely you've come across the oft-repeated TASWAMA,”

Well, oft repeated by me, anyway! Grin

Gruach · 04/01/2018 19:17

Erm ... Surely not a tiny snippet of halfway decent writing on TA? (I like Noli but I do wish the actress could loosen up her delivery a little - too much space around each word. Unless I'm supposed to understand that is how SA teens speak?)

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 19:32

So those who know about Pip and the Pup are:-

Elizabeth, Alice, Chris, Ed, Nic, Will,Emma, Fallon (and presumably Harrison and Susan )Jolene, Adam and Ian. When is Pip going to break the news?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 19:34

Oh Kate-"spiritual wellbeing"

That was good writing tonight.

RolfNotRudolf · 04/01/2018 19:40

I'm impressed with the topical insert - well the fact they got it in, rather than the content on which I'm in no position to comment. I wonder what they dropped to make room for that?
And big boops to Noluthando for telling Kate the truth.
I'm worried about Freddy - I don't want to see him as a drug dealer - it's not going to end well Shock

birdsdestiny · 04/01/2018 19:41

I don't know how to say this, I am just catching up, but I thought the scene between pip and Jolene was nicely done, I almost felt a little stab of feeling for pip.

Freddy will end up in prison, right, having been stabbed in the back by Ellis?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/01/2018 20:07

Good episode but I really don't want Freddie to be a drug dealer. Sad Angry

Nice to get a topical insert but I was confidently expecting Brian to say something to David about Pip's pregnancy so I was very disappointed. Tomorrow's cliffhanger?

MrsGrindah · 04/01/2018 21:02

Nope still don’t like Noli. She doesn’t speak kindly to anyone. She sneers at everything to do with Ambridge.
I hope Pip fesses up soon but let’s face it her family will be supportive won’t they? They are a close family.Suspect they’ll give Toby a hard time though...Jill will jump on any chance to prove him a wrong un.Hope the SWs let her have a healthy normal pregnancy though ..been too many difficult ones

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 21:10

Oh her family once they get over the initial wailing will be fine.

I do hope the gossip gets to them before Pip breaks the news though- oh the drama. Pip has now confided in 2 of her aunts but not her mother. Ruth will take that so badly.

Nolithando is pretty unpleasant.

BashStreetKid · 04/01/2018 21:18

I quite like Noluthando for having the sense to see that drug dealing is a 100% No; also for seeing through a fair amount of her mother's nonsense, including wanting to be right-on about showing off her mixed race child.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 21:27

Kate was teetering on the brink (fell over?) of being racist with her assumption that Noluthando was using some ancient tribal medicine.

I'm guessing Noluthando's father is from as solidly an upper- middle class, urbane background as Kate's own and there is no more reason Noli should have inherited wise woman lore than Kate has.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/01/2018 21:28

I mean it was obvious to listeners Noli had made it up.
