TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

"... I will terrify all readers of mine from ever again questioning any postulate that I shall think fit to make."

Nice. Very, very nice!

CeciledeVolanges · 03/01/2018 17:49

You forgot dishonest, Francis. She has a proven record of lying going back to the Jude era (and beyond, for all I know, but that's about when I started listening). And then she publicly martyrs herself to force others to forgive her.

MrsGrindah · 03/01/2018 18:40

And not to Pip-bash but she is excellent at everything isn’t she ? IIRC she passed her driving test straightaway, got her degree no problem even though it was her “ wild” period, got a job no problem that involved going abroad, gets any man she wants, excelled at cricket in that single wicket thingy...and now gets pregnant without even trying!!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/01/2018 18:46

The Pip actress is such a terrible actress.

Abra1d · 03/01/2018 19:02

You forgot that she was a very musical child. Phil wanted to send her to the cathedral school as a music scholar or something.

EsmesBees · 03/01/2018 19:07

Nice to hear Jolene putting a stop to the gossip. It's just not realistic that anyone outside her family would be that interested in Pip's pregnancy

Abra1d · 03/01/2018 19:10

Yes, good for Jolene.

“It's just not realistic that anyone outside her family would be that interested in Pip's pregnancy”

Really???? Have you ever lived in a village?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/01/2018 19:57

Pip was not a musical child, not exceptionally so, anyway. Phil believed she had talent but he was an adoring grandfather and she really struggled when he tried to coach her for the Cathedral School scholarship audition.

TheAntiBoop · 03/01/2018 20:13

She hasn't really done anything with any musical promise she had either.

She was a 🎶 🎵 genius. It’s PIP we’re talking about.

echt · 03/01/2018 20:37

Yet another episode hanging on Pip withholding info. I'm hoping the Dopeys do hear by a roundabout way.

Also the clunkily "apposite" playing of Que Sera" in the background.

Bleuurgh.

SaffyRosie · 03/01/2018 20:39

i think the scriptwriters are preparing to do a storyline about Alice being an alcoholic. have they done alcoholics before? Even if they have hey can do a different spin on it with Alice being so young. they can show how alcoholism can affect anybody, from any class, at any age.

MikeUniformMike · 03/01/2018 20:41

Wasn't Darrell an alcoholic?
Jack Archer was.

abitoflight · 03/01/2018 20:45

Saffy I’ve been saying this for a while too
Her great grandad was an alcoholic (jack, Peggy’s first husband) I believe
There have been lots of little hints - maybe over a year
The tree incident
Too hungover for work presentation
Halloween
Couple of others too where I think it’s been commented on by Chris that she’s not good in the mornings
Plus the latest vodka thing with Pip
I’m pretty certain this ones a slow burner

jolene is an idiot.

LillianGish · 03/01/2018 20:51

Mike you might want to get that post deleted - you just mentioned hwmnbn Shock

cheminotte · 03/01/2018 20:54

14/17 .
Will we ever find out who the hit and run driver was or will it remain another unsolved mystery?

MikeUniformMike · 03/01/2018 20:59

hwmnbn? Sorry was I getting mixed up with some telly programme.
Jack Archer who was Peggy's 1st husband not Helen's child.

SaffyRosie · 03/01/2018 21:04

i think my love affair with The Archers may finally be coming to an end. I'm nearly 54 and grew up listening to it but now it irritates the hell out of me, I've just realised why. My husband hates it, says that most of the charcters talk in cliches and i now realise that they do. so maybe the scales have finally fallen from my eyes; it really is a load of tripe.

Subtleconstraints · 03/01/2018 21:10

Happy New Year from a name changing infrequent visitor and thanks for new thread.

Saffy I am beginning to think the same, but find it a marvellous remedy for menopausal insomnia Grin

Joking aside, the episode where Alice revealed Pip's pregnancy to Ed was dreadfully written wasn't it?

birdsdestiny · 03/01/2018 21:27

I think I have some sort of ridiculous loyalty to TA , I am frequently utterly irritated by it but feel irrationally cross if other people criticize it.
