TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas.

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

Bashstreet I don't know why we should all love every character in TA Pip is what she is. I'm not part of the world who hate her, I can't be bothered to get het up about her.

If she had stuck her fingers down her throat she would have absorbed less alcohol (you do start absorbing it almost immediately though, and you can never totally empty your stomach with self-induced vomiting) but I think getting a bit drunk once during her pregnancy is quite unlikely to result in damage to the foetus isn't it?

Regarding her sex life, perhaps I hate her because she gets around a realistic amount and I don't and am jealous. It certainly isn't unrealistic for most of the people I know who are my age and aren't in long-term relationships, and I know of people who are much more successful in this arena than I am and would say that being "easy" as I think it is being insinuated that Pip is actually unattractive...

And as a mature student I know a lot of people who drink very large amounts and act like idiots but are also highly intelligent. Sadly the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Kate is loathsome and self-centred but I do enjoy her scenes, whereas Pip just downright irritates me.
I expect she told the Dopeys she wouldn't be drinking over Christmas because she was single-handedly doing all the milking, because she is Saint Super Pip after all.

I didn't suggest anywhere that we have to love every character, ppeatfruit. I was simply responding to FrancisCrawford's post.

Which mental picture, @Gruach? Kate with her head under the duvet while Jennifer tries to talk some sense into her? I don't take much to Nolutando, but I can't stand Kate. Poor kid, she didn't have much chance with a mother like that.

Alice's liver must be in tatters. It's surprising nobody ever comments on her drinking.

Kate's awful. I was cheering Noluthando (even though I normally don't like children and teenagers being portrayed as rude or sulky or rebellious).

Cecile I’m not proud of this but when I was unwittingly pregnant with my son, probably about three weeks or a month gone, I once drank at least four glasses of champagne at a friends.

My son is quite normal. Or so he likes to claim 🤨.

Ruth would just do her quiet, confused pigeon act but David would flip - much more entertaining! Outrageous of Alice to blab like that tonight.

I found myself wondering if Pip's 'news' might be unsettling for Chris and Alice - I get the impression he's keen for a family, she's not.

We haven't had some stats for a while. We had around 11,500 posts in 2017. And here's a graph showing the rate of posting. Apart from Rob trying to snatch Jack in February, it's been a quiet year compared to the previous three. (Don't show SOC this graph...)
