TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

God forbid TA should go down that line

Well since the GRA proposal actually includes an exemption for male inheritance advantage (which tells you a lot about the motives) he may not get anywhere. But it would be interesting to see him try and get the justification for allowing one group of men have it both ways.

C8H10N4O2 · 03/12/2017 13:01

But affordable housing is different surely?

I think what would be interesting would be to use it to expose 'affordable' for the sham it is. By mapping it onto the percentage of local comparable housing the affordable version should be way out of Emma's price range anyway.

StVincent · 03/12/2017 13:17

Really- the GRA thing? Blooody hell.

I don't care if Lilian gets married or not either. Both her choices of man are arseholes really.

We've said this a million times but Pip is FAR TOO OLD to be spouting off at her dad as Freddie does at his mum. The ingratitude and shittiness of kids in the archers has been unrealistic for ages now, none of my friends would have acted like that and teenagers I know now don't talk to their parents like that either once they're past the GCSE mark or so, or in the middle of a huuuuge argument. Do the archers scriptwriters have a load of bratty kids?

hiyasminitsme · 03/12/2017 13:23

How are Emma and Ed ever going to get a mortgage?

Gruach · 03/12/2017 13:25

I sometimes find it hard to care about individual characters - but I'm continuously fascinated by how the SWs attempt to get themselves out of whatever mess they've got themselves into. Grin

I want Lillian to be happy. And I don't think they can do another wedding failure. I care not a jot for Pip - but they must have enjoyed plotting just how much they can test Jill with Fairbrethren.

Very sorry for Christine. She needs a happy ending.

I love Freddie. He does seem a little immature - but I guess we are supposed to feel very strongly that he's the one most visibly affected by the loss of his father. (Perhaps Lily will act out her grief in some other way as she matures and has to make decisions about her life.)

extinctspecies · 03/12/2017 13:31

Emma is only on the parish council, not the district/county council.

Parish Councils don't make decisions on planning applications, they can just decide to support or object to them and then the planning authority makes the decision - and will usually ignore their views if they are not consistent with policy.

There's no reason why a parish councillor would be barred from buying a property on a new development- it's purely commercial.

I think when the time comes she's going to find it's not all that affordable.

StVincent · 03/12/2017 13:32

Yeah I get that with Freddie, but Pip is nearly 25.

If there's one thing I've learnt from the Archers this year it's that shagging the ex leads to pregnancy.

C8H10N4O2 · 03/12/2017 13:49

he's the one most visibly affected by the loss of his father.

You know I don't altogether agree. Its always Lily who is aware of Elizabeth's workload, has thought about her loneliness and tried to be an extra parent - she just doesn't always do it well.

A lot of Lily's annoying behaviours are similar to those I've seen with bereaved teens trying to be grown up to support the widowed parent.

Freddie on the other hand can be a complete arsehole. I'm assuming that at some point the personality transplant fairy will turn him into a mini Nigel. I remember Nigel being a pillock when younger but never cruel and nasty in the way that Freddie is.

Gruach · 03/12/2017 13:58

Good point well put C8H.

Fink · 03/12/2017 19:08

The bunting! The bunting got a mention!

Vango · 03/12/2017 19:08

Bunting, did he say?

RolfNotRudolf · 03/12/2017 19:09

But how did Justin know the bunting had been stolen? I don't think it was a matter of common knowledge at the time, so has he inadvertently confessed to Ambridge's biggest unsolved crime? Shock

Vango · 03/12/2017 19:09

😂😂

Gruach · 03/12/2017 19:10

Grin Came for the BUNTING!

Vango · 03/12/2017 19:11

"Scamming the scammers".....too much!!

Gruach · 03/12/2017 19:12

Hunting for bunting!GrinGrinGrin

Gruach · 03/12/2017 19:17

Hell to pay when Ian finds out ...

They (SWs) have been rather clever ...

Vango · 03/12/2017 19:17

Poor Pip. Her big decision completely overshadowed by the excitement of the bunting mention! In my house anyway.

RolfNotRudolf · 03/12/2017 19:18

When Ian finds out what Gruach?

RolfNotRudolf · 03/12/2017 19:19

I thought that conversation between Pip and Lizzie was actually done well, and very believable.

Gruach · 03/12/2017 19:20

That there's a spare baby practically on his doorstep. Just like Shula all those years ago.

RolfNotRudolf · 03/12/2017 19:25

Of course, Gruach, I was thinking along the lines of developments with the police investigation.
The thought of a little Toe-bee and Pip walking the earth - eeeuch.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 03/12/2017 19:29

Haven't been on these threads for a while, but came here for the bunting excitement!

AuldHeathen · 03/12/2017 19:31

I can’t help thinking the fictitious Pip is making the right decision for the future of humankind.

Gruach · 03/12/2017 19:33

Well she's not going to stuck to it AuldH. I Am Certain.
