TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

Well at least he was mentioned, and not in the cereal cupboard, the SW's must read this!

DadDadDad · 15/12/2017 09:40

I caught the end of last night's episode and found it a bit contrived and slightly baffling. Lillian's phone was picking up on Justin's appointments being cancelled (because the SWs needed a way for Lillian to know this and this clumsy device was all they could think of?). Then by several leaps of logic this meant lovesick (?) Justin was sitting moping at home and Lillian needed to visit him, even though they had just cancelled their wedding. Confused

Sorry, I know I am just summarising what we all heard, but I need to write it down to try to make sense of it, and hopefully get some insight from the wise crowd here! Archers

I completely agree DDD. I predict that with the non-cancelled honeymoon they will be off to India.

Fink · 15/12/2017 09:57

You thought the Lillian and Jennie scene was bad?! I was still reeling from the incredible Grundy volte-face into friendly, helpful neighbours! Hanging on for Eddie to present Rex with a bill. The most likely scenario seems to be that Eddie's body has been taken over by an evil alien intent on world domination (cf. Men in Black).

Oh. I thought that the SW were making some sociopolitical or ethnographic point. Perhaps I was overthinking it.Blush
The Grundy clan are usually brassic and resort to any scheme to get extra cash; ducking & diving; pushing boundaries (sometimes with hilariousHmm consequences) whilst often blaming their woes on the Archer clan. Emma is desperate for cash, hence her buying bargain beans and snapping at Johnny. So far, so typical Grundy behaviour.
However, for the first time in history, the Grundys are totally ahead and have sold all their Christmas turkeys. They have money in the bank, time on their hands and can afford to be generous and giving like normal people. Here's hoping that they take a liking to this new modus operandi and decide to go organised and legit from here on in (especially when Ed gets the tractor work at HF).

But, yeah, the Lilian / linked-diary thing was pants. Couldn't she just go round to ask after Ruby (her dog, after all) - much more believable.

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2017 11:04

I think that Eddie has been released by the alien who was forcing him to present as an uncouth, shiftless, ungrateful misogynist areshole and have allowed him to return to being the heart of gold loveable rogue he used to be.

ppeatfruit · 15/12/2017 11:05

Yes I agree R4. It's nice (it is Christmas after all).

Gruach · 15/12/2017 11:40

Ouch! Blinkin' fence is full of splinters ...

Mootsie · 15/12/2017 11:55

I have a sneaky suspicious feeling that all will not be well with the Tumble Tussock. Wasn't there a pointed reference to the tops being screwed down? Will all the bottles explode prior to delivery?

I can't believe (although I'd like to) that all is fine and dandy in the Grundy world.

CraicMammy · 15/12/2017 13:37

I wasn’t convinced dunking the bottles in the bath would be an effective pasteurisation method either...

PrincessFiorimonde · 15/12/2017 13:55

Yes, I can't help thinking that something is about to go horribly wrong for the Grundys. Eddie has said so frequently the turkeys are all sorted well ahead of schedule, etc., etc. Surely that's just signalling that trouble's about to arrive? Hope I'm wrong!

extinctspecies · 15/12/2017 14:19

Friday night.

Not long till Xmas.

Bound to be a big one tonight.

Cromwell1536 · 15/12/2017 19:10

This is absolutely not how I remember TOP services. There was no officious nurse repeatedly asking, "Are you sure? are you really, really sure? Honestly, are you sure?" How is anyone supposed not to feel uncertain and judged in such an oppressive environment? She has turned up to the clinic, having had plenty of time to think about her options: stop badgering the poor woman!

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/12/2017 19:16

Well, no surprises there.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/12/2017 19:16

Can I be the first to say oh ffs.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/12/2017 19:17

And that applies to Justin and Lil too. They are so boring.

EsmesBees · 15/12/2017 19:18

Honestly! Now we have to listen to all the dramatics as Jill and David find out. Over Christmas dinner maybe as they notice Pip not drinking? I'm not sure I'll be able to stand it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/12/2017 19:20

And Toebee, who will declare lurve and want to make an honest woman of Pip. Gah!

TheAntiBoop · 15/12/2017 19:23

Worst storyline ever

Fink · 15/12/2017 19:28

Well I for one am flabbergasted. What a shock.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/12/2017 19:32

There will be a momentary pleasure in watching the outpouring of grief and fury from the Dopeys at the fact Elixabeth has facilitated Toebee to impregnate Pip and that Pip didn't confide in her mother.

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2017 19:32

Bloody hell, was that an abortion clinic or Dignitas? Is there a [practically too angry to type] emoticon?

Mcakes · 15/12/2017 19:33

Gahhh! Would have been SUCH a good and useful storyline if she had gone through with it and they had simply shown her grieving normally then getting on with her life.

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2017 19:39

Mcakes- I thought for once they might have allowed a woman to have sex without being punished.....But no.

Mcakes · 15/12/2017 19:52

Bertrand Yes completely agree Angry Would have been even better if she could have just enjoyed a bit of casual sex without any consequences even if it was with a complete tosser

But if they were going to have an abortion story, it would have been great if it had focused on our right to choose and the reality that abortion isn't necessarily the worst thing that can happen to a woman.
