Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

Maybe I'll bump into one of the actors

Maybe the ghost of Nigel Pargetter? As Gruach says, the BBC are in the city centre now (only a few hundred yards further along the same canal from the ICC).
The days of Pebble Mill at One are long gone.

ppeatfruit · 23/11/2017 11:00

The ghost of Nigel was in an old Midsummer Murders recently. Playing the opposite of what he was in TA, a vile snob. He deserved to be [nearly] battered to death with a golf club!

Halsall · 23/11/2017 11:03

Pebble Mill is no more, alas, Dad. But yes, they used to record there. I've been in the studio once, in a former life.

I won't be pleased if Noli is scapegoated and deported in disgrace. Freddie can ride out any storm

Freddie is an irritating, arrogant, entitled little tit. All of Nigel's flaws and none of his good qualities.

I'm vaguely assuming they are using the wrong fungi tbh, but yes if Nollie gets into trouble the implications for her are far more serious as Freddie is old enough to know if he gave a damn.

extinctspecies · 23/11/2017 12:06

They got high though in an earlier episode, didn't they?

So presumably they must be the right mushrooms.

I'd have preferred it if they'd all eaten the infected risotto ...

TheAntiBoop · 23/11/2017 12:11

Can you get addicted to the shrooms? Noli seems a little obsessed with them

DadDadDad · 23/11/2017 12:18

Ooh, I'm at the ICC, so even closer than I thought...Shock

So I've got my Wild Guide out and am looking at mushrooms and wandering which type they're using. It couldn't be the fly agaric, it's too obvious with the classic red and white top it has 'hallucinogenic ' effects , it could be Lilac bonnet cap which does also If they're on the really poisonous Death cap they would already be in hospital with severe liver damage.

They probably do know what they're doing ( I hope). Noli's getting in with some bad boys though she needs to be reined in by someone.

extinctspecies · 23/11/2017 12:36

They are quite easy to identify - they have a little 'nipple' on top.

I can’t seem to judge Lillian harshly for any of her behaviour.
I’m now questioning my moral compass. 🤔

ppeatfruit · 23/11/2017 13:32

Thanks for the link extinct they're not in my book, are they illegal ? It sounds like they're better than a bottle of vodka!

Now we have depressed Lil staying in The Bull fgs! Poor J'lene.

AuldHeathen · 23/11/2017 13:38

I feel sad about Lilian more than for her. I used to like her and do still a bit - she’s an interesting and kind of unique character, and used to be quite funny, even though her behaviour has been decidedly tacky for years now. I can’t comment on moral compasses, but l’m sure there are some who’d query mine just for existing - and maybe even for spending time on TA.

AuldHeathen · 23/11/2017 13:41

I thought there was more risk to the kidneys than to the liver in eating the wrong mushrooms. Maybe l’ve just misremembered. I’m good at that these days.

C8H10N4O2 · 23/11/2017 13:55

They got high though in an earlier episode, didn't they?

I was never quite clear from that episode if they were experiencing a placebo effect or if teh LSWs had slightly odd way of describing it. It didn't ring true.

ppeatfruit · 23/11/2017 13:57

Depends on the fungi Auld There's all sorts some with different horrible side effects others benign. My ex dil has terrible eczema from shitake mushrooms which seem to be in the shops all the time!

EBearhug · 23/11/2017 14:01

Psilocybe are very different from fly agaric. Though I believe fly agaric (traditional red mushrooms with white spots, like gnomes sit on,) can have hallucinogenic effects, as long as you stop before they destroy your liver and kill you. I have no idea what doses this all happens at, so basically, don't try this at home. Even if your home is Lower Loxley or Home Farm.

EBearhug · 23/11/2017 14:07

are they illegal

They're fine to grow (difficult to ban wild fungi from growing,) but the second you process them in any way, such as picking and drying them, you are breaking the law.

SoMuchToBits · 23/11/2017 14:30

Iris65, a couple of weeks ago you mentioned that Elizabeth's heart condition was never mentioned after the initial storyline - it has been now!! Grin

ppeatfruit · 23/11/2017 15:56

Yes Ref. her heart condition, there is a mushroom which can kill you only IF you take it with alcohol. Lizzie had an empty stomach and was drinking wine…. Ooops Grin
