Thanks, R4, for the title (again!).

I'm your temporary host while PseudoBadger is on her sabbatical / prison term / secret mission.

Old hands and complete newbies all welcome.

Spoilers (eg Radio Times descriptions of future programmes) not welcome.

When will Matt reappear? Before / during / after the wedding?

The floor is yours...

I think...

... Amside is Lilian's. Matt was involved but because of his criminal history he was kept off the paperwork. Lucky for Lilian.

... The Dower House was Matt's but put in trust for Lilian but Justin is buying it from the trust. This transaction is apparently not complete.

What I'm not sure about is who gets the money Justin is paying for the house - Lilian or Matt?

Wauden · 08/10/2017 14:13

Thank you! I heard something about Matt getting the money from the house sale but I suppose it depends also on the wording in the trust document.

Something tells me something odd is going on but I can't tell what it is yet.
After hearing that Justin met Miranda in Edinburgh (and pretended to M's relative that they were still married) I would be very wary, Lillian...

TheAntiBoop · 08/10/2017 14:21

Given the trust was set up to guard against bankruptcy I can't see how Matt could get the money out otherwise that's a massive loophole the sw have found!

Wauden · 08/10/2017 14:52

Ah... the trust was set up to prevent whose bankruptcy?

Wauden · 08/10/2017 15:13

I guess any potential bankruptcy of Lillian's... hmmm...

Imbroglio · 08/10/2017 15:48

It was in case Matt went bankrupt, I believe.

Wauden · 08/10/2017 15:57

I can see that there are a number of possibilities of dodgyness arising out of this house sale... and various complications. over-invested

TheAntiBoop · 08/10/2017 16:27

Matt was trying to hide assets all over the place. The trust in lils name was to protect the house. Was it put in trust before or after he went to prison?

There's also the directorships which he couldn't hold due to his criminal past

As I understand it, in order for a trust to be outside the reach of the court it needs to be irrevocable

Ceto · 08/10/2017 17:01

The document Lillian is refusing to sign is something putting Amside within Justin's business group.

birdsdestiny · 08/10/2017 17:18

Did anyone hear the r4 programme this morning discussing the fact that TA needed a new editor. Asking well known people what they would do if they got the job. Mary Beard said she would get rid of Ruth and Phoebe. It's interesting how different characters annoy different people.

TheAntiBoop · 08/10/2017 17:19

She's effectively transferring ownership

Which would be taxed as if it were a sale to a third party of the shares I would imagine. So not necessarily cost effective for lil

ElvisCriddlington · 08/10/2017 19:45

I think that Kate having to deal with a young woman who has some of her personality traits could be really good.

Will Kate actually do any parenting do you think, or will Jennifer, Brian and Alice end up stepping in to help?

I also love the idea that Lynda wants to support Robert in joining the Parish Council and give him his time in the sun.

Wauden A word to the wise...
Don't even try to make sense of financials in Ambridge. Just accept that they live in some parallel universe where normal economics and taxation rules don't exist.
In true Reithian fashion, the scriptwriters like to Inform and Educate with regard to agricultural matters but Entertain with regard to financial matters.Grin

RolfNotRudolf · 09/10/2017 09:27

Inspired by Birds mention of Mary Beard ...
YOU are the new editor.
Which 2 characters would you get rid of?
Which would you bring back?
What would be your Shaking Ambridge To The Core story line?

For me - both Matt and Justin to go, and Lillian to realise there's more to life than having a man (but not going down the competive cake route of all the other over 70 women in Ambridge).
Charlie to return, to shake up Adam and Ian's relationship before they have a child, and for Ian to realise he'd be better off with someone else who can give him the love and commitment he deserves.
Patrick (?) to return - wasn't listening when he was on but from these threads I've gathered he and Kirsty get on well - so I'd bring him in, have him and K fall in love and live happily ever after.
SATTC - Pip does something so cataclysmic to the farm that it is bankrupted. She pisses off to Australia - for ever, Josh builds a successful business selling tractors, Ben leaves the cereal cupboard and becomes the next Steve Jobs, only better. David and Ruth retire to a small cottage and we don't hear a lot from them. Because of the cataclysmic event Ed and Emma buy up D and R's farm for a pittance and make a HUGE success of dairy and sheep farming.

R4 · 09/10/2017 10:03

My two to go would be Lilian and Adam.
Lilian annoys me with her two-dimensional character: either gin-soaked cackling or huffing, sighing despondency.
Adam also annoys me with his huffing and sighing. He sounds eternally bored by life.

You can bring back Patrick but can I introduce new characters - an Accountant who actually gives sensible on-air advice, a lawyer who isn't the only solicitor in Borsetshire Usha and some commuters who speak.

I don't want Ambridge to be STTC.

TheAntiBoop · 09/10/2017 10:07

Pip to go for sure. Not bothered about anyone else!

TheAntiBoop · 09/10/2017 10:07

She could take a fairbrother with her

TeenTimesTwo · 09/10/2017 10:10

I'd get rid of Anisha, she seems a bit slippery to me. I know Alistair is boring but he doesn't deserve to have a partner who runs up enormous debts then leaves him with patients suing left right and centre which is what I fear will happen.

I don't like Toby and Rex much either.

I like the stability of Brookfield, but would love a SATTC to involve Ed and Emma going up in the world (and I think her being on the Parish Council would shake things up a bit too).

Bekabeech · 09/10/2017 11:16

I'd like Pip and Toby to get together and then go on a round the world trip.
Bring Mike and Bethany back - maybe Nick can get a job as a TA or at a Special school (there used to be a local one).

I actually expect that Lilian is going to go for a bit soon - off to Ecuador to run off to Matt after dumping Justin. Emma does need the Parish council role (although as Neil's daughter it is hardly not nepotism).

birdsdestiny · 09/10/2017 12:43

Matt to go and everyone to realise I was right to loathe himGrin.
I would like Emma to become a parish councillor which eventually leads her to a career in politics and she can buy the house of her dreams.

RolfNotRudolf · 09/10/2017 13:24

Birds I've never liked Matt, and I've never got the love for him on here

Ceto · 09/10/2017 13:40

If I were editor, I would ordain that there would never again be a storyline involving Grundys in so-called "humorous" but obviously doomed to failure/borderline illegal get-rich-quick schemes.

My SATTC storyline would be one that involves getting rid of Pip and Ruth in one fell swoop. Rolf's would do nicely.

RosyPony · 09/10/2017 13:45

Please please please can we get rid of Ed and Emma? I can't take any more of their 'woe is me' whinging! Either that or let them win the lottery!

DadDadDad · 09/10/2017 14:37

My suggestion: Bruce and Ursula Titchener decide to move into Ambridge... Shock

Alleycat1 · 09/10/2017 17:25

Ruth and Eddie to go and Clarrie to meet a lovely, financially stable chap who treats her well.
