GrumpyOldBag my Spanish colleague has absolutely perfect grammar (she is a lawyer who speaks and writes complex documents in flawless English all day every day) but an accent so thick you could stand a spoon up in it. Ditto my Italian colleague.

GrumpyOldBag my Spanish friend speaks perfect English and has grasp of as many colloquialisms as I do - however she retains her heavy Spanish accent after a decade of living here.

I have an Italian colleague with a strong accent, but writes and speaks English like a native - his errors are so rare, that I usually make it a joke: "this is your one language mistake for this year".

Sorry, this is starting to sound like Grumpy-bashing. I think the point has been made.

I hate the way Matt resorts to blackmail all the time to get what he wants. I've gone right off him.

Lillian turns a blind eye to Matt's unsavoury side which makes me dislike her and not care much what happens to her. Matt has always been bad news.

I know a few Hungarian people. They have lived in this country for decades. They still have strong accents.

And has she actually lived in the uk long enough to have developed perfect English? In my experience those who have very good English have studied and worked in an English speaking country for many years.

Surprisingly, they made no reference to must surely have been the highlight of her career, her stellar performance as Nigel's Aunt Ellen.

Well, Matt is dead to me after last night's crap. And as Gruach said, the bigoted, raving homophobe does not fit his character. Sure he was trying to get a rise out of Adam, but it was an unnecessarily nasty and prolonged rant as a plot device.
I hope this is at least going towards a clever denouement, and not just a damp squib.
Old Matt was a good character as a dodgy but diverting geezer. A cliche but well done. Since his nastiness to those elderly tenants (was that pre-SOC?) they've made him darker and then ridiculous.

I suspect Matt's aiming to sabotage the Hunt Ball somehow. Or he'll have another massive public fight with Adam there. But I don't really see why he's got it for Shula and Alastair so much.

Big prize for hunt ball. Matt gets a ticket to the hunt ball. The hunt ball is acquiring a significance far beyond one would expect of a hunt ball.

Freddie and Nolly will slip the magic shrooms into the punch at the Hunt Ball and the whole event will descend into a psychedelic love fest until... Matt’s lifeless body is found! PC ‘carpet’ Burns will be promoted to detective and in Poirot style will investigate each and every potential culprit! There’s a long list... Shula, Alastair, Justin, Adam, Anisha... not to mention Lilian herself when he threatens to reveal their secret trysts! I can’t wait 😊

Surely Lexi came back for a potential 3 month contract because she lurves Roy and couldn't stand to be away. And 3 months at NMW in the UK is good money compared to the equivalent back home especially if you aren't paying any rent

She will be on abit more than nmw won't she? And she will stay and bring her kids over blah blah blah. I'm sure we will get a nice deportation story post brexit for one of her kids.

I don't like the character as they seem afraid to put any negative qualities on her.

Pedant alert! Lexi won't be on National Minimum Wage; her base-line is National Living Wage. But she must be on more than fruit-picking wage now.

I like the idea of an Agatha Christie style bumping off of Matt. My money's on Hugh Melling.

Is it possibly part of the ongoing descent into doom of shula and Alistair. The hunt ball will be a disaster, they will go bankrupt, Alistair will return to gambling, and on and on.
