Thanks, R4, for the title (again!).

I'm your temporary host while PseudoBadger is on her sabbatical / prison term / secret mission.

Old hands and complete newbies all welcome.

Spoilers (eg Radio Times descriptions of future programmes) not welcome.

When will Matt reappear? Before / during / after the wedding?

The floor is yours...

I take your point Ppeat - perfect y normal for different generations/ages to confide in each other but the tone of P and L's conversation jarred - Lily was coming across as the older experienced sister, when she isn't; and Pip didn't seem to acknowledge that.

EBearhug · 17/10/2017 12:54

"It's not the law to listen to TA is it?"
Heavens above-isn't it????

Don't listen to them, Bertrand. Of course it is.

Goodness, people will be suggesting we have free will and can make choices next. Madness.

AuldHeathen · 17/10/2017 13:21

Grin ASD youngest son tells me more or less daily that l don’t need to listen to that rubbish. He means the daily news bulletin from
Ambridge. I don’t know who to believe now.

DadDadDad · 17/10/2017 13:40

If it's the law, what's the penalty for not listening to the TA? Being forced to listen to compilations of Any Answers, or The Moral Maze on a continuous loop? Shock

OP posts:
TeenTimesTwo · 17/10/2017 14:48

Penalty - having to listen to Count Arthur Strong - that would be enough to make anyone listen to TA.

Ceto · 17/10/2017 14:57

has no one on here ever just chatted about personal stuff with a relation or older\younger close friend of the same sex without totting up their age? I know I have, am I weird?

I don't think people tend to do it so much at that sort of age, just because there is a big gap in experience between someone still at school and someone who's been out for some years and is now working. Or they may well have general chats, but it's highly unlikely the older would be taking advice on relationships from the younger one - particularly if she has friends of her own age she can talk to. But, of course, it's probably not unbelievable that Pip doesn't.

Minimammoth · 17/10/2017 18:06

I’m getting very worried about Ben. I think we should report him missing.

Fink · 17/10/2017 19:10

Right, so the silent characters in Ambridge include a woman from Kentucky!

AuldHeathen · 17/10/2017 19:28

When was the last perfect wedding in Ambridge? Peggy and Jeck on New Year’s Day in whichever year? Adam and lan? (well, the wedding went okay) Actually it might have been Emma and Ed. Hmm

C8H10N4O2 · 17/10/2017 23:46

Penalty - having to listen to Count Arthur Strong - that would be enough to make anyone listen to TA

Some years ago, with CAS was a horror confined to 6.30 on R4 I did a Venn diagram of TA listeners' overlapping radio interests for the amusement of a TA group. CAS was a sad island which only appeared because one listener was determined to listen to the whole of the first series to be sure it was really that bad. I have no idea how it lasted so long.

If I'd made a magic quadrant it would have been way down in the niche corner.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/10/2017 00:34

The ineffable mystery of Count Arthur Strong- why? Just why?

DadDadDad · 18/10/2017 07:48

Well, I'd take half an hour of the Count over an episode of Ed Reardon.

OP posts:
GrumpyOldBag · 18/10/2017 08:03

Ed Reardon is magnificent!

There but for the grace of god (in work terms anyway) ...

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 18/10/2017 08:23

I am just loving the characters of Noli and Lily at the moment. Lily would give Dorothy Parker a run for her money. The SWs have really done a great job with her character development after all that time in silence.
Loving the noxious Noli too - perhaps it's easier to relish these interactions now that I don't have teens any more!

RolfNotRudolf · 18/10/2017 08:26

Ed Reardon is the only dramatic comedy I enjoy on R4, I find most drama on R4 unlistenable.

Ch8 with all your talk of Venn diagrams and magic quadrants "for the amusement of a TA group" have you "met" DadDadDad - I think you may be kindred spirits Grin

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2017 08:27

Count Arthur strong is truly awful. Only sometimes challenged by the trite crap they sometimes allow as the woman's hour drama

Also not keen on John with the keyboard - I know his surname is supposed to be memorable but it's alluding me

RolfNotRudolf · 18/10/2017 08:28

John Shuttleworth - I enjoy that

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2017 09:11

Some shows should really be kept to 15 mins. They'd be better then.

Sometimes they should let a show die a natural death - the one where napoleon and wellington a horses correspond for example. Definitely didn't need more than one series

AuntyElle · 18/10/2017 09:47

Oh god those effing HORSES!! Anti, the memory is painful.

JeNeSuis, Dorothy Parker and Lily in the same sentence??! It's interesting how different our reactions are. I liked the Lily reboot at first but think they've hugely over egged it now Confused. But I really enjoy Lils'n'Matt which I think most on here don't.

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2017 10:00

Speaking of shows that have outlived their concept - the one making fun of the Bloomsbury set has

Am I the only one who likes the moral maze?

Wrt lily - being a good writer means not making the characters a parody. The home front sl can be a bit ott but the characters are believable and it would be good to have the same ed

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 10:13

Oh noooooo please don't mention that bizarre rubbish CAS how it ever got on the radio is a mystery to me.

So Shules, Al, Joanne and the sacked Roberta (see, there are staff in the vets Grin ) are going down the swanee ?

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 10:17

I had a thought last night what if Nolithando (sp) gets it together with the builder at the Hunt Ball?

Talking about builders why can't Lilian phone her own shower repair man?

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2017 10:23

Isn't he inappropriately old for a 16 year old!

Minimammoth · 18/10/2017 10:33

I think If the vets goes boom Shula will take the Cloth.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 10:34

Exactly Anti That'd be one in the face for Kate!
