The Archers: The Crook, the Vet, His Wife & Her Lodger - discussion #80

In full acknowledgement of PseudoBadger's great achievement in providing the previous 79 threads over the past 4 years (and credit to R4 for this thread's title)...

Discuss TA (The Archers). New posters encouraged - it's not (too) cliquey here and plenty of regulars are happy to answer questions. Archers

One rule: no spoilers (ie no mentioning future plot teasers from Radio Times listings etc) - there's a separate thread for that.

So, is Phoebe pregnant? will Anisha dob in (dobbin - geddit?) Alistair?

PS I don't presume to take on PB's role permanently - hopefully the job of starting new threads will rotate among regulars until she returns

Doubtless lan divulged the news in an effort to stop Adam changing his mind. So not a great omen of stability and happiness for them as a couple. Hmm

ppeatfruit · 09/09/2017 15:32

Teen I said 'normalish' gay couple I wasn't using that fact as a reason for them to not be considered as adopters. Other posters were talking about their relationship which is a bit rocky but not THAT bad IMO.

Surely a single person could become a couple, do they swear not to get hooked up when they adopt. ? There are always issues, esp. with older children who'd be unlikely to come from perfect backgrounds. The child needs consistency , love and understanding which Ian would give.

Bekabeech · 09/09/2017 19:45

It's good to see how many more people are being heard.

StevieNicksMirage · 10/09/2017 00:32

God, I hate Adam. I think Ian and Kirsty should have a baby together.

Abra1d · 10/09/2017 16:07

I have been away and might have missed discussion about this, but Phoebe seems to have got away very lightly with lying, along with Lily, about Lexie taking a pregnancy test because she thought Constantin might have got her pregnant.

That was a really nasty thing to say and very embarrassing for Lexie. Wouldn't Roy or Lexie have torn her off a strip?

Sorry if you've discussed this already and I missed it!

TeenTimesTwo · 10/09/2017 16:24

Having heard a missing episode this morning, I'm slightly more impressed by Adam. Before pitching the adoption idea to Ian he had obviously done some research and been proactive in contacting the local adoption agency.

However nice to see the 'adoption fairies' already in action ensuring they get bumped to the head of the queue for an information evening. Smile

TeenTimesTwo · 10/09/2017 16:26

I view Ian mentioning it at the party a bit like one half of a couple who announces 'we're pregnant' straight after the test, while the other one wanted to wait until after the 12 weeks scan. So over excited rather than consciously forcing Adam's hand.

Gruach · 10/09/2017 19:08

Front of house?

Interesting ...

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/09/2017 19:27

Ambridge Job Fairy waving magic wand for Lexi, Gruach?

TeenTimesTwo · 10/09/2017 19:48

My thoughts entirely.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 09:28

Abraid Roy did tell Feebs off and she blamed Lily which was only fair!

Silly me, I realised, after the film, that Jenny got annoyed with Lexi when they were cleaning out the caravan, because she quoted from that book 'Mistress of the Paddocks" I can't work out if JD wrote it or not, but she obviously is conflicted about it

Bekabeech · 11/09/2017 09:34

"Mistress of the Paddocks" was written by a Jilly Cooperesque local author - but it is widely seen locally as a thinly veiled account of Brian's affair with Mandy Beesborough.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 09:44

Oh yes thanks Bekabeech No wonder it pisses Jenny off! I wonder if Lexi knows!

Fink · 11/09/2017 10:04

No wonder it pisses Jenny off! I wonder if Lexi knows!

Yes, Roy told her a few days ago, that was why she deliberately brought it up.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 10:08

Oh thanks Fink I don't think I registered that bit, I wonder whether I should feel sorry for JD or amused at Lexi's bitchiness! Or both!

SingingAvocado · 11/09/2017 10:10

Sorry, I've managed to not listen to TA the whole school holidays (and last week too) so wondering if anyone can kindly give me a shortish summary of what is going on?

Fink · 11/09/2017 10:14

I could be wrong, but I think it was when they had that first staged 'date' when Kirsty set them up.

I would attempt to provide a summary but I've missed quite a few episodes recently so I might not cover everything relevant. I'll leave it to a more devoted listener.

Abra1d · 11/09/2017 10:28

But Phoebe could and should have cleared things up long before she did and I'm still surprised her father and Lexie aren't more annoyed with her. She seems a bit indulged.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 10:29

Singing Can you get the Catch Up\Listen Again service? It will give you the Omnibuses and every day fo 30 day repeats.

It's more than a bit involved, there are soo many story lines going on I'd be sure to miss a few!

R4 · 11/09/2017 11:02

a shortish summary of what is going on?

Grundy sibling rivalry, Susan stirring in the shop, cricket, pre-Flower & Produce skulduggery, the Sausage King expands his global empire, Peggy is cattyWink to Cardboard, somebody wants to concrete over our Green and Pleasant village, etc, etc.
On a more helpful noteBlush here's the link to Lowfield. Lowfield

btw: is anybody else annoyed that cousin Johnny is covering Jeff's sick leave. Why didn't the Job Fairy give the gig to Ed?

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 11:12

Hasn't Ed got work? Johnny asked?

R4 · 11/09/2017 12:17

I think that Ed takes work wherever he can find it and it patently doesn't pay enough. A regular three-days-a-week would be a god send, unless a short term arrangement messes up their benefits claim.

birdsdestiny · 11/09/2017 12:25

Sorry not been on the thread for a while. When I said that for Adam and Ian to have a child would be disastrous it wasn't because they are gay for goodness sake. It was because Adam doesn't love Ian and will cheat again. Also Adam doesnt want children whatever he says. Ian on his own would be a great parent.

SingingAvocado · 11/09/2017 12:43

Thanks for the Lowfield link, R4. I've done a quick skimread!
