The Archers: The Crook, the Vet, His Wife & Her Lodger - discussion #80

In full acknowledgement of PseudoBadger's great achievement in providing the previous 79 threads over the past 4 years (and credit to R4 for this thread's title)...

Discuss TA (The Archers). New posters encouraged - it's not (too) cliquey here and plenty of regulars are happy to answer questions. Archers

One rule: no spoilers (ie no mentioning future plot teasers from Radio Times listings etc) - there's a separate thread for that.

So, is Phoebe pregnant? will Anisha dob in (dobbin - geddit?) Alistair?

PS I don't presume to take on PB's role permanently - hopefully the job of starting new threads will rotate among regulars until she returns

OP posts:

Definite echoes of Adam and Charlie in that encounter so appropriate that Adam should be the one privy to it. I predict she'll stay with Justin for the time being, but his trips away will begin to irk more and more - too reminiscent of his relationship with Miranda (whose shoes she will begin to realise she has stepped into). I thought the scene at the property sale was as instructive as the scene in the hotel suite - she and Matt were working together and she was enjoying it whereas Justin is a lone operator. I don't think we've seen the last of Matt.

R4 · 26/08/2017 10:32

If we are playing compare&contrast:
Helen saw Adam & Charlie but didn't say anything so Ian went ahead with the wedding in unblissful ignorance. It ruined friendships when the secret came out later.
Adam has found out about Lilian and Matt (or thinks he has). If he doesn't say anything to Justin then he will marry in ignorance and it will ruin family relationships when it comes out.
So if Adam cares about Justin, he should tell him.
That's a big 'if'.Grin

I suppose that Adam's loyalty is to Lilian; he won't want her hurt again, neither emotionally nor financially.

Imbroglio · 26/08/2017 10:34

If he's got any sense he'll talk to Lilian...

LillianGish · 26/08/2017 10:57

No one cares about Justin - except possibly Emma who thinks he's going to build her her dream house at an affordable price. I think Adam will talk to Lillian. The trouble is people care even less about Matt after recent episodes - I'm just remembering that nothing we've heard about Matt lately is news to Lillian. She always loved him warts and all.

Bekabeech · 26/08/2017 11:20

Oh my crystal gazing prediction for Ed and Emma (I'm not really new just name changed):
Something will happen so one of the home farm workers retires/gets another job/ moves away- Ed is taken on more permanently and they get a tide cottage. After a storyline that shows how unaffordable "affordable" homes are.

cheminotte · 26/08/2017 15:21

I did wonder if Borsertshire is now near Dunbartonshire so no bank holiday on Monday.
Also I agree that Alice may have a bit of a drinking problem.

birdsdestiny · 26/08/2017 15:46

Yes I think it's going to be drink too. Or it may have been just a pointless comedy episode. Without the comedy.

EBearhug · 26/08/2017 17:22

why was Adam meeting Lillian in a bar anyway?

They've often met at GG - if Ian was working, he could join them later. And I think Lilian's preferred meeting place is probably a bar

RolfNotRudolf · 26/08/2017 17:24

But why were they meeting at all - was there a particular reason?

BertrandRussell · 26/08/2017 17:46

They met earlier in the day, Adam had a bit of a moan about Brian and Lillian asked him to dinner so he could tell her more.

RolfNotRudolf · 26/08/2017 18:04

Thanks Bertrand

Gruach · 27/08/2017 08:28

Am confused. Why is the BBC tweeting a link to "meet Matt" (via the TA website Who's Who) now?

Trying not to get excited as the indications all seem to be that he's on the way out. Could they be bluffing? Could they?

And - is it me or has the Who's Who been re-filled with the random and disappeared? Suggesting that the new editor will be broadening the story somewhat. (Remember the days when the character lines spoken thingummy showed Rob, Helen, Pip, Toby and no-one else for entire months?)

Gruach · 27/08/2017 08:31

Sorry, here ...

Vango · 27/08/2017 09:25

I haven't heard Friday yet but Matt's not going anywhere!

Vango · 27/08/2017 09:45

I'm going to predict that Justin buys the Dower House and Matt and Lillian end up with Grey Gables.

EBearhug · 27/08/2017 10:03

is it me or has the Who's Who been re-filled with the random and disappeared?

They have added newer profiles like Lexi and Anisha, but they haven't removed those of characters like the deputy manager at Berrow Farm, whom you probably weren't aware was ever even an actual character...

If Kim Durham is now 70, and has been an actor for over 30 years, so what was he doing for the previous two decades?

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/08/2017 10:14

Vango has it! Excellent prediction. Please accept this MysticBore™ replica crystal ball award 🔮

There was no point in bringing Matt back if it was just to swan off again.

Gruach · 27/08/2017 10:23

Hmm ... Grudgingly - I suppose an eternal Big House Triangle between those three might be just as entertaining as a management buyout.

Don't care, as long as Matt stays!

Imbroglio · 27/08/2017 10:29

God Lynda is insufferable...

Imbroglio · 27/08/2017 10:41

Why does Oliver think he can control what happens to GG if he sells it?

Surely if he wants to stay in control he should sell on partnership basis

Or at the very least sell on the open market and not go straight to a chain without even trying to find an independent buyer.

I also think Shula should be advising him NOT to make any major decisions in the first six months.

Vango · 27/08/2017 10:45

Oh my gosh, thank you Bore Blush

I'm off to the engravers.... 🔮

Vango · 27/08/2017 11:15

Oh blimey!!! Lillian!

Minimammoth · 27/08/2017 12:04

Oh we are entering star crossed lover territory aren't we. Lexi and Roy ( alright not quite lovers) Matt/Justin/Lillian, Adam and Ian. I hate mixups.
Lots of Matt v Justin possibilities across the board.

BertrandRussell · 27/08/2017 12:13

Incidentally. I couldn't run down a corridor in high heels like that when I was 40- never mind 70!

AuntyElle · 27/08/2017 12:27

Aww, I found that Matt/Lilian parting moving. Genuinely bitter-sweet.
But I don't think he's leaving...
