Remember, please do not post anything you read on this thread on The Archers discussion thread. That is wrong, bad, naughty!

Previous thread.

I went back to the beginning of the Radio Addicts topic, Gruach, and read some of the early short threads, then found the first couple of really long ones. Then managed to drag myself away! I was wondering how many of the same people were posting back then but under different names.

Gruach · 03/08/2018 08:12

Some of us, witch. Wink

The threads started by PseudoBadger (occasionally deputised by DadDadDad) are essentially one long Archers thread. Makes me twitchy when rogue threads appear - I like having all Archers thoughts in one place! Love this spoiler-y thing - but I’m always scared I might find myself musing on spoilers on the main thread.

emsiewill · 03/08/2018 12:35

Can I just pop up to say that I'm proud of starting the first ever thread on the Archers on MN - before there was even a radio addicts topic. It was back in October 2001, when it was all fields round here etc etc.

It's fascinating to read what was going on then, and also there are loads of "old" MN names that I recognise on there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/other_subjects/1230-am-i-the-only-person-under-40-who-listens-to is the thread

Gruach · 03/08/2018 13:08

That’s a damn fine thread emsie. Star

The bookmark tells me I had read it before. Can’t recall when. I know Pseudo’s thread began shortly after I joined MN - and it’s possiby the single greatest reason why I’m still here. Have been listening A Very Long Time - but never had people to chat to about it once I left home. Would have been amazing to have the thread (never mind the internet Hmm) when I was at university!

Ha ha Gruach I remember a rogue thread popping up at some point in the last couple of years and someone, maybe you, trying to herd people back into main thread.

I found a full thread that Pseudo started but the opening post suggested it was following on from something and I couldn’t figure out from what so maybe I overlooked the first one.

D0do · 03/08/2018 21:17

Thanks, Gump! I'm glad LL hasn't burned down.

witchmountain · 03/08/2018 21:23

Blast from the past emsie! I was a bit Shock at some of the language - a lot of ‘slapper’ and goer being thrown around.

Interesting who everyone hated then. Elizabeth, mainly, by the sounds of things. I don’t have any clear memories of her from that period but my listening would have been patchy.

witchmountain · 03/08/2018 21:25

Not sure why goer ended up bold!

Halsall · 04/08/2018 11:41

I'm pretty sure I remember reading your thread, emsie, but I couldn't post on it because I wasn't under 40 Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/08/2018 12:10

TA production team clearly have this thread under surveillance and changed the s/l at the last minute because we'd rumbled the LL fire!

The 🔮 is outraged!

witchmountain · 04/08/2018 13:09

I think Gasp (as was?) might have snaffled the 🔮, Bore, because she predicted Freddie handing out drugs.

Or maybe the 🔮 overheated, hence dreams of fire. I can’t wait for it to cool down. Need to trudge to the post office to collect something but it’s too hot.

D0do · 04/08/2018 13:40

Did I? Did she? Well done, her! She richly deserves that 🔮, in spite of not getting the details 100% spot on.

witchmountain · 04/08/2018 14:00

I recognised your immpecable manners, you always thanks Gump Wink

I’ve never thanked Gump Blush so I should record my perpetual appreciation now, thank you!

Gruach · 05/08/2018 02:29

So, this week should be fun - Kate breathing fire upon the fallen House of Pargetter (presumably) and Hannah disrupting the peace amongst pig folk ...

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2018 20:29

I think Freddie's only hope is to come clean and that Ellis was blackmailing him. Ellis will then torch LL.

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2018 20:30

say that Ellis was blackmailing him

Radio Times
12 Aug to 17 Aug
It’s the morning after Fallon’s hen party and there’s more than one hangover – however, Fallon herself wakes up to a huge shock that leaves one villager under suspicion and several others attempting a cover-up. With Harrison tasked with investigating what’s happened, will the culprit be unmasked? And will the bride and groom’s big day go without a hitch?

Alistair continues to be the subject of the village gossip – and he can certainly expect a frosty reception from one disgruntled resident. Over at Brookfield, Josh fears his own interests maybe be suffering and makes a decision that angers someone in the family. Plus Lynda makes a surprising discovery – what’s the betting she won’t be letting the matter lie?

Cast:
Jill, David, Ruth, Pip, Josh
Kenton, Jolene,
Susan, Chris, Alice
Jazzer, Kirsty, Lynda, Johnny
Harrison, Fallon
Rex, Toby,
Elizabeth, Lily, Freddie
Shula, Alistair

OP posts:
Gruach · 06/08/2018 21:24

Is Elizabeth’s mistake going to be a careless word in court that lays bare the true depth of her son’s depravity?

At least I now know when the wedding is. Really don’t understand about Fallon’s ‘saving for our wedding’ account - they’ve only had it a few weeks. Hmm

Thanks Gump!

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/08/2018 22:15

I think Freddie's only hope is to come clean and that Ellis was blackmailing him. Ellis will then torch LL.

The 🔮 approves of this.

D0do · 07/08/2018 05:58

Thanks Gump! Only trouble with the idea of Ellis torching LL is it's very like Clive torching Christine and George's house.

witchmountain · 07/08/2018 18:38

Maybe Susan’s birthday fireworks are literal (and expensive, as befits the Wife of a Manager) and something gets singed. Would that appease the 🔮’s pyromania?

Question for those of you who have listened longer - Susan has been a social-standing obsessed gossip for as long as I can remember. Was she always like that or did something trigger it?

Gruach · 07/08/2018 18:52

Well ... Firstly, she’s a Horrobin - and feels she has to live that down every day.

Secondly there was the ... incarceration. On account of her no-good brother, Clive. (Unfortunate and unfair.)

And finally the almost intolerable added stress of becoming in-lawed to Ambridge Royalty. (Notwithstanding the current troubles at Home Farm.)

It always seems to me that she feels these minuses to be far more real than the pluses of a long, happy marriage, two well brought up children, Ambridge View, consistent worthwhile employment ... She’s constantly on the defensive and expecting to be put in her place. I should think it’s rather exhausting ...
