Hides in laundry rooms

OP posts:
Ceto · 29/06/2017 22:46

I didn't hear any signs of Justin sneering at Helen either. It seemed to me that he's desperately trying to suck up to Lill's relatives, particularly the Bridge Farm lot, and was trying to think of something nice to say to Helen having totally forgotten that she wasn't able to receive her award last year.

Vango · 29/06/2017 23:22

He sounded to me like he was genuinely baffled at being accused of stitching them up. As he said himself, he thought he was doing a business deal. Why wouldn't he try to get away with paying as little as possible having been threatened by Tom?

ppeatfruit · 30/06/2017 09:02

Ceto and Vango Helen would not have bitched at Justin about him not being a member of their family just because he's marrying her Aunt. If she had felt he was making an error.

Nah he's a 2 faced shit.

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 09:09

Ha! That's exactly what I would expect Helen to do! She's one of the chippiest characters!!

I didn't hear the episode though so can't comment on how it was delivered

ppeatfruit · 30/06/2017 09:14

Listen to it TheAnti It'll be interesting to see what you think Grin Have you got Catch Up?

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 09:18

Which day was it?

I think Justin is bein written very inconsistently- one minute he is the stereotypical capitalist swine and the next he is a love sick puppy. But no connection between the two. It's extremely irritating!!

ppeatfruit · 30/06/2017 09:23

I think it was Monday or Tuesday's. But I know a lot of people who are 2 faced like that Anti . Could he be using Lilian ?

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 09:46

It just doesn't feel like he is being two faced though - maybe that's what the sw are going for but it doesn't sound right to me!

I'll check lowfield and find the right day!

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 09:52

Just listened and I don't think he was making a dig - she was aggressive from the start and he was trying to appease

'Let's hope you can collect it again this year' as in I hope you win it again
'Well I wasn't here last year'
'Oh of course..bluster bluster because he realised he had put his foot in it

But from his comment alone I don't think he was making a dog.

Re his character- just really odd he is doing the land deal at all with them given how desperate he is to get in Lillian's good books. He's not an idiot - everyone knows mixing business and family like that can be a recipe for disaster!!

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 09:53

I don't understand what he's possibly using Lillian for? I know his area of the business world well and he is not a convincing portrayal!!!

ppeatfruit · 30/06/2017 12:17

To improve his PR in the village, esp. her family who are big guns maybe?

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 13:40

I used I don't find his obsession with the village very convincing either

ppeatfruit · 30/06/2017 14:01

Ruby I agree about that fake sneeze of Lynda's. At least she has a health issue, rather than the others who are the healthiest 70 , 80 and 90 yr. olds I've ever known; some of whom drink all the time and don't seem to have any problems (except David with his bad back, suddenly , maybe the SWs have taken note of this thread.)

Gruach · 30/06/2017 18:53

Oh, sweet TA parody in Dead Ringers just now. SOC coming back and Dot hanging out at Grey Gables.

Grin
TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 19:06

Yes it was pretty perfect!!

Tom is back to being a bore!!

Where is the department store they are in? Is it a moving one?

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 19:11

And the bridge farm brats are back on form!!

So where is this friends cafe sl leading!!

TheAntiBoop · 30/06/2017 19:15

'Ruthless businessmen'

Kirsty is predictable!!

Tom and Helen are so Machiavellian!!

Vango · 30/06/2017 19:53

Helen would not have bitched at Justin about him not being a member of their family just because he's marrying her Aunt. If she had felt he was making an error.

Helen seemed to think that Justin should have offered them a more favourable deal because they're going to be family, then pointed out that (because he hadn't) they were never going to be family (or at least that's how I heard it!).

Vango · 30/06/2017 21:17

To improve his PR in the village, esp. her family who are big guns maybe?

The Justin we know is worth more than the lot of them put together so it's highly unlikely that he's interested in trying to impress them.

I believe in Justin's relationship with Lillian. She's not of any particular use to him from a business point of view so I can only assume he's very taken with her. His divorce is going to cost him a pretty penny so what other motivation could there be, if not simply a desire to be with her?

Obviously he'd prefer to be accepted by all the family but, hard-nosed businessman that he is, he didn't consider the ramifications of his offer on Lillian and Tony's relationship.

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2017 09:06

Yes it was a funny parody (and a nice piss take of SOC who deserves it) Gruach . Sometimes Dead Rngers is very good other times not so. I loved the woman who does Teresa May in last week's, Oops sorry Dad3 Grin Wink

I also wondered why this person needs a penis to do the job.

I wondered this also. Lizzie or Shula would both be qualified as would Ruth. It is entirely in keeping with Brian's attitudes unless Debbie is there to ridicule his assumptions.

The coming of age thing didn't strike me as odd - I just assumed that for inheritance/voting purposes full rights were not granted until he is 25.

Regarding Ambridge being a healthy place to live, (referring to comment by @RubyRoseRing), a
paper in the BMJ analysed this a few years ago, concluding that the rate was slightly less than the national average, but more likely to be due to accidental causes. See A Series of Unfortunate Events? and comments: www.bmj.com/content/343/bmj.d7518/rapid-responses

DadDadDad · 01/07/2017 19:26

Don't worry, ppeat, I'm sure any link between me and TM will soon be forgotten Blush. After all, people on this thread aren't interested in remembering fictional events for years after they've faded into obscurity, are they? Confused

I'm enjoying David Davis on Dead Ringers. Every time I think of him now it's with that over-confident "Master Negotiator!!" A bit like Tom Archer... (to bring my post on-topic)

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2017 19:51

True Dad There are no elephants on this thread Grin

JessieMcJessie · 02/07/2017 09:30

Louiza Patikas is joining Coronation Street, well done her, but I imagine that means Helen will be "just picking up Henry from school" or "just finishing off a batch of cheese" for the foreseeable future, a shame given that Bridge farm about to come into money.
